It's counter productive at this point. If someone in my personal life has a specific instance of perceived unfairness they want to discuss with me, I'm always ready to listen. But general complaints get tuned out. It's not that I don't care, it's just numbness. I'm honestly more concerned with issues such as the accepted level of violence in our society, police, educational, and medical misconduct and the bureaucracies that brush those issues under the rug. None of these issues will ever be fixed, they will however be addressed publicly to normalize community wars so the people are too busy pulling the blanket and fighting for their social rights, they won't realize it's being taken away from them as a whole. Through free speech, through technology, through laws, through security, through society itself, to "protect" us from ourselves with censorship and media mind control. The sad part is that complaining about it, makes it even worse for society's balance and dividing the people even more. Omg.. You'd think that men would take this moment to ponder, 'whoa.. this feeling of being disenfranchised for less than a small fraction of the period that women have felt this way, already really sucks.. i cant imagine how they put up with it FROM US for centuries..'.. you'd think this sort of empathy would occur to them.. but it doesnt.. its just, 'poor me.. feel bad for me..no one has been persecuted or exploited like me-a white man'..unbelieveable.. I wont refute that men do and have suffered in few number of facets in society that i can count on my fingers.. but to contend your suffering with women's overall? So much as to even question the validity of feminism?? BWHAAA!! You havent known oppression THAT much.. but do you have grievances? Sure..

@thesoliloquist19404 жыл бұрын
@Rafael Mendonça Queiroz eh, i wrote that when i was inebriated.. I meant to write 'anti-feminists' (not 'men') such as the speaker in the vid.. Your point about needing to have personally lived through thousands of years of suffering inflicted against women to have any idea of what im saying is just ridiculous.. Im not here to 'compete' for a trophy of 'biggest victim'.. Youre talking about refraining from invalidating another person's or group of persons' experiences with suffering.. i really dont see how that negates from what i wrote.. or how what i wrote is a bid for winning the 'biggest victim' contest.. We are essentially speaking about the same thing.. I wanted it to be asserted at the same time that women and men have been mistreated by larger society.. I felt this vid meant to downplay feminism's plight so coverage was lent to men's issues.. But as you have described, this isnt a zero sum game..

I love my son, this has to be the BEST TED talk I've ever seen
@Snarge223 жыл бұрын
Did you have any awareness of this before you had your son? Are you yet aware that once your son becomes a teenager that any 1/2 step he does wrong will have society trying to ruin him? Do you know when he gets older that it won't be enough for him to be self-sustaining, but that society will demand he also provide for others? There will be no love, only consternation if he is not productive at a significant level. Love is reserved for women, children, and pets. A man must deliver, or he is not even considered a man. Good luck to you and specifically to your son.
@galeriestrasbourg25274 жыл бұрын
Great talk! I used to be part of a discussion group for men and we had this information session for men interested in joining one of those groups. Women were welcome and there was actually one in the room. After a while, three young women walked in with a banner, accusing the group of promoting masculinist values. So, the speaker asked what they meant by masculinist values. The girls whispered a few words to each other and then decided it was time to leave. So, as it seems to be the case sometimes, people don't bother doing any kind of research before agreeing to a group's ideology, so they don't really know what they are fighting for or against and what is really happening in the real world. I used to be the one man working with forty or fifty women and most were nice and supportive to me. Some were not. Others just ignored me and that was fine too.That is life and people are people. They like you or they don't, they agree with you or don't. It is not necessarily discrimination or harassment. I say do your job and let others do theirs. Live and let live.

This is simply brilliant. There are no easy solutions, only tough discussions. But that is all we have, open, respectful, honest, and compassionate discussions about this topic. We admire Jess Butcher for speaking to this matter and more importantly being the change. What an example of a woman of strength and courage. As she stated, we need more confident girls AND boys. Children that can become strong protagonists in questioning cognitive narratives and flawed social norms.
@bigsabertoothbunny59865 жыл бұрын
I truly appreciate it when women talk about these points, especially so candidly with hard facts. Men have their own set of problems they have to overcome and men are defined by their work. We all now have to look over our shoulders in fear of a female counterpart crying "wolf" whether we did anything or not because the bottom line is that we are guilty by accusation in today's world. It generates a great deal of stress for men in addition the ones that were already there. Why are more men at the top of the proverbial totem pole? Like she said, younger women tend to want to be home more and raise their children. They step back from climbing the employment ladder or get out completely. This leaves men to continue climbing to reach the top faster since the women got off the proverbial ladder. It is ok. To be a mother and raise children is the most difficult job on the planet in my opinion. My wife stepped away from working to raise 3 kids. They are all teens now and so she started a business that is growing exponentially. I have supported her fully from day one of being a mom to all that is happening today. My life choices and employment decisions have all been based on supporting her and our kids. These decisions were made with her full knowledge and input as well because it affects her. Both men and women have significant contributions to make to family life and the employment world. We are all equals as human beings but we are not the same.

Being a woman isn't a disadvantage generally speaking. Women are often given preferential treatment in the workplace, in recruitment selection, in the courts and in health care. Guidelines straight that women should be expected to lift less weight in the warehouse and some do take advantage of that as a way of doing less (trust me, I worked in a warehouse) and the fact I would happily lift up to 25kg was mind boggling to them. "But we're told not to lift more than 16kg! Leave it to the men!"

Take ANY situation: and woman are ( on average) severely privileged. Example: discord: 24 people (man) are trying to get a word in. In comes a woman. She can, by herself, now claim at least half of the speaking time. Because she is a woman. The ship is sinking. There are 100 people on board: and only 25 seats on the last dingy out. Guess how many woman will be on that dingy. Its wartime. 100's of people are needed for extremely dangerous work: with 30+ percent of the people assumed to be killed by this single mission. The only reason women don't use the f word for themselves is if they realize it's man repellent. They still believe all the same things.
