You must know a trick I'm dying to learn! How do you drive 75,000 miles on X3 without buying new tires?
@jli2134 жыл бұрын
$1100 for Model Y tires sounds about right, but what about tires for the X3?
@Coltn31254 жыл бұрын
Just what I was thinking. You have to either not include the tires or include them for both. Also brakes for the X3 and not for the Y as it has regen braking.

I love the model Y but I have a major issue with Tesla quality which is something you never address in these videos - the BMW interior for example is far better built than anything Tesla can do as yet (hopefully things will improve in time). Also, nothing is said about range - again the BMW is better in this regard. Don't get me wrong, as I said earlier, I love the model Y and Tesla's in general but I feel you need to be more objective (going through the features of the car that are extra on the BMW is fine but what about the features on the BMW that aren't available on the Tesla?)
@cbromley5624 жыл бұрын
Going by our M3 SR+, range and quality, won’t be an issue. Plus you’ll have all the benefits of the Y. I know, it seems too good to be true, but we’re constantly impressed.
@davidbeppler30324 жыл бұрын
Will you buy the extra gas tank for the BMW? Is 900 mile range make it better than 400 mile range? Side by side exact same cars BMW with a huge extra gas tank is better?
@ferio80194 жыл бұрын
BMW definitely has better interior quality, but the interface is so inferior, that most people will just choose tesla right now. To most people, interior quality really isn't that much of the priority, as long as the seat is comfortable. Will be a good mention, but really means very little
@paultinetti24804 жыл бұрын
Ferio Ng Depends on your interior preference. The Tesla is a shift in conventional interior design, it doesn’t make it worse. I personally can’t stand all the buttons and dials we have become accustomed to having in a vehicle. It is refreshing to have that all stripped away to only what is needed. The interiors are not apples to apples... the future is to simplify the driving experience, Tesla has a huge leg up in my opinion. By the way, the model 3 seats are far more comfortable than most other cars. As far as quality, it is very hard for someone to do an unbiased opinion if they can see past the design shift. Tesla may have had quality issues early on, but that is not the case any more.

Jonathan, , just for grins, I took a ride by my local BMW dealer while sheltered in my car, which dealer is coincidentally about 3 blocks from the Tesla dealership and looked at new 2020 X3s on the lot. Your quoted prices are way low on the X3 since BMW, like Porsche, really juices up the price with individual options. They're more in the high 50s to high $ 60s range in MSRP. Oh, and they're still slower than the Model Y.

Wait, why didn't you compare the total cost of ownership between the two? I'm no analyst, but it seems that the MY would be $18,060 less expensive to own over a five year period (assuming 15k miles a year and the other variables that were addressed). Right?
@gaussdog4 жыл бұрын
Nice, much better to compare to something like this I’m guessing, based on the purchaser they would probably both attract. I find it extraordinarily interesting that people look at the 0 to 60 performance as some thing related to the cars quality. I think quality is far more telling when you look at The 60 to 0… I don’t care how fast it goes, no one is racing their family car or daily driver around the streets like it’s some kind of a 60s or 70s movie, … Besides the driver is far more of an important part, if you are actually looking at those values. (If you’re racing from a light, he who cheats and hits the gas first is always the winner… ) and furthermore safety is far more of a factor. Why do people buy Volvos? Because they’re perceived as super safe… This should be the number one reasons that Tesla sells cars, although in most cases it won’t be
@-Tac0caT-4 жыл бұрын
The 0-60 is an indicator of its fun-to-drive factor. If I am going to spend 65k on a vehicle, it better move. And in Boston, getting on and off interchanges sometimes requires a quick car; but I really just like zooming around. To be fair, though, Tesla also highly advertises its safety features. It has all the sensors and gizzies to warn and protect, which are standard. But yes, 0-60 does not "prove" build quality either. The depreciation factor suggests something, though.
@SnapHost4 жыл бұрын
Maybe I missed it, but do BMW need tires change? A true cost of "fuel" can be significantly less for Model Y if charging at free public stations. Or, as in my case, changing at work at no cost to me; companies most likely would not pay for gas though.
@Cleanerwatt4 жыл бұрын
I forgot to include the tires for the BMW, but that should add $800 to $1,000 more to the cost.

The only thing the Model Y will ever need is tyres from that prodigious torque. BMW, junk!

Thanks for the numbers: For Model Y you took 34% of depreciation, according to kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6e3l6WkZr-iZtk it's around 60k miles. BMW have 43% of depreciation at this miles. In your calculations you came up with 22100$ difference. If you calculate correctly the depreciation for BMW the difference would be only 8300$ from which 5000$ is for fuel. So Model Y is 1200$ cheaper per year than BMW. It would be good to see how you calculate the fuel cost.
