Test Yamaha Ténéré 700 - Deep mud, sand, gravel and street!

Gas-O-Loon performs a full test of the Ténéré 700 in different environments: Tarmac, gravel roads and enduro tracks. There are many Ténéré test videos out there. This one is longer, but manages to go further into detail and farther into the deep mud than most others!

Best sentence to sum up the T7 on youtube “friendly but not boring”. If we can get over our egos, this is what 99% of adv riders ever need. Personally what decided things for me was the ergonomics (I am 190cm and 86kg), this thing feels like it was designed just for me.Excellent review, I agree with all your conclusions, keep up the great work!

Wish my uncle Ulf was still with us . Unfortunately he lost his battle with cancer in '08 . He lived In Kungsbacka and lived to ride motorcycles . Would love to have had the chance to get one of these bikes and go riding with him . Still plan on traveling back to Sweden to see some of the places and people I met when visiting my mother's family . Nice to hear that Swedish accent again . This bike is one the very short list of future bikes that I might buy when 1. they are available in the U.S. and 2. I scrape the cash together to afford it . Great video , thanks guys .

@@ronbosgra8230 the power of the T feels not more less than the power of the AT. At the German Autobahn it haf a Vmax of 200+. The T has so much Torque i find compared to the HP. The best thing i find is the weight of the bike, with akrapovic under 200kg with a full tank, so when its windy i think its no Problem for the Bike. I just love the Tenere. @@fabianbeyerle thanks for replying. I too ride the German Autobahn (from Holland). Because my AT broke down, I traded it for CrossTourer. My wife needs the car and until she can lease, I'll (have to) stick to the CT. This is a 285kg V4 130hp beast, great for my work commute and holiday/weekend trips, but I really prefer 2 cilinders engines and the occasional fire road. The T7 being this light is good news! Financially I can only buy a used one, so it'll probably be a year or two before I'll be able to get my hands on one.

Every vid I see on this bike the rear is kicking too much...more shock rebound compression is needed, as far as the forks go get some race tech gold valves w 1 extra bleed hole drilled in them w a higher spring rate. It will be butter smooth. I own a shop and have been wrenching on bikes for over 30 yrs and used to race pro in Baja and in the USA, enduro and desert racing. I cant wait for this bike to come to the US! You can have that KTM 790.. KTM = Keep Taking Money. I work on KTM's and ride Yamahas ;) I would also like to see the rear shock dimensions and see if a shortened YZ or WR shock would fit.... Oh yea!

Great post. The bike is very good but let's not forget, bikes like this are designed with the aftermarket industry in mind. Aftermarket improvements such as a the larger fuel tank, rear suspension upgrade and better tires are certainly being developed at the moment. You don't want to change too much on the bike, otherwise, it may have been better too purchase the Tenere 1200. What would be great if you could do a long hard ride over a couple of days to test the limits of the bike?

Guys, please buy a couple of mic's for doing this. When comparing bikes that are pretty close in every way and nothing stands out as a must have or a can't have, the deciding factor with my is always going to be reliability, because breaking down on bike is way worse than breaking down with a car or truck. That means the Yamaha or Honda will be my choice, and always has been. Those are the only brands of bikes I have owned or probably will own. They also have lot's of dealers around should I need one.

@Kaegis
@Kaegis 4 жыл бұрын
The 701 is a total purpose-built bike, it is an off-road weapon with the ability to handle on road well. That means weight saving, it's a lot lighter than a Teneré because it's purposely designed to be thrown around off-road. A Teneré is like an SUV of the bike world. It's an all terrain touring bike, capable both on and off road but not purely designed for either. If you want to throw a bike around in the bush, the 701 is the better choice of the two, but if you want to do a bit of dual purpose, dual sport riding in comfort and have a bit of gear on and better range, the Teneré is a better choice.

Hi thanks for review; do you think you could travel 2 up with it without having the wife complaining about comfort ?

It's much more about your wife than a motorcycle. Some of them can be a passenger on a supersport bike for 2000kms, some of them can't make it more than 50kms on any bike...

iamandreja : we did a 1500km trip together on my CB500X. She was ok but she would like a little bit more comfortable seat.

Trekky: I think that seat on 500X is a little bit more comfortable than on a T700. I don't know about the footrest position.

Absolutely. So easy to ride. But suspension is less plush than a modern enduro of course.

Great bike all round but for me I would still buy a KTM690ER because it is 100lbs (45kg) lighter with better power to weight ratio, FAR better suspension! traction control, off road ABS and better fuel consumption. Also it is easy to fit extra tanks to give the longest fuel range of all adventure bikes. There is hardly any difference in the price NOW that Yamaha has raised the price and KTM has lowered theirs with offers currently across the range.

What I learned about the bike from this review, in a nutshell: Everything about the bike is average. Nothing on it is awesome. Everything is built with the budget in mind. Functionality exists, but not "great" functionality. If you want options and good-to-excellent-to-premium quality fixtures, buy the Adventure 790 R. The T7 reminds me of a Wal-mart mountain bike. It's sort of what it purports to be, but, isn't, really.

Riding position is awesome, the engine is awesome, the suspension is awesome... It's a great bike considering the price!

How would the suspension feel when loaded

We never really loaded it. Only like 15kg in the bag. That was no problem. Riding with passenger on tarmac I suspect you are better off with something heavier, like a GS.

@matty d i own the 790 and i tried the T700, it was really fun. Few days before i tried the Tiger 900 rally pro and it was boring as hell sorry to triumph, i really don't like that bike. But to compare the T7 vs the 790 adventure R you are completely correct. The Yamaha looks and feels cheaper, if you look at the plastics and built quality (no bolt on subframe btw!) and if you take in account all the electronics (if you need them that's another discussion) the slipperclutch, ride by wire (cruise control), illuminated knobs, rally mode and 94 hp that feels like 120.., tft dash, and premium suspension that makes the 790 adventure R really cheap! I really don't get why people are not coming to this conclusion? I don't think thats better or people need it but its premium quality. I think 10k for such a basic bike is not cheap compared to what you get on the 790 adventure. Now to the riding experience, i think the T7 is even better balanced than the 790 adventure and a slightly more agile. Ergonomics are better and also the wind protection feels better ( for real i treid everything and i'm sick of the buffeting on highway speeds on that 790). The engine is SUPER linear which makes it softer predictable and less exhausting but also less exiting than the 790. The T7 is jerky as the reviewer said on this video in the first initial flip of the throttle and it bothered me a little. It doesnt feel underpowered but significantly less power than 790 in rally mode (batshit crazy that mode :p). The suspenion on the ktm is superior and more stable but also good on the T7. I prefer the T7 offroad personally because i like the standing position and balance more (and the fact that the bike chugs along as with the 790 that starts to stutter in low revs.... On the street the 790 is alot more exciting and fun to me since it's a little hooligan machine :P the slipperclutch and (cornering abs/Tc) make it amazing to handle the power. I'm also not used not to have a slipperclutch so my rear wheel was sliding alot (supermoto :p) while gearing down agressively

Great review guys, thanks!! Ok so I just figured out you’re in Sweden. What’s the deal with riding off road there? I’m on the west coast of norway and looking at buying a T700 in spring....but I don’t know where I can ride it off road here!! But Sweden ain’t sooo far away 😝
@gas-o-loon7522

Riding real off road / trails is formally not allowed here. But if you go to places outside the urban areas , especially in the north or really anywhere close to the norwegian border, very few people will care. So few people. Just keep a low profile whenever you are close to houeses and people and never disturb or destroy. Use common sense!
