Naturally, TF2 Scout is going to win. The design of the class in TFC was to avoid combat and complete objectives, whereas TF2 Scout is much more about flanking and doing as much close-quarters damages as possible.

spoiler alert: tfc medic wins tf2 medic simply has no adequate self-defense tools besides the syringe gun (which is half-decent at close range) or the crossbow. tfc medic has super nailgun, both shotguns, 3 conc nades, 4 normal nades, and even aids so he can win after he loses somehow. all tfc medic has to do is conc jump/bunny hop in, stay out of syringe range, and whittle tf2 medic down with his far superior weaponry. hell a nade can nearly one-shot tf2 medic if aimed perfectly. if you include the crossbow, tf2 medic has a fighting chance if he reliably land crossbow shots at mid range tfc medic was considered one of the best classes in the game

TFC medic was a jack of all trades who could also heal his teammates if he felt like it. Double shotty, conc jump (and the effect wore off faster) , regenerating health, could corner peak sentries and kill them with the super nail gun. He could solo capture flags easily. I had to switch from maining medic to maining pryo for the similar playstyle.

You got it right. Thanks to the scattergun, TF2 scout becomes a glass cannon while TFC is an objective capper, not supposed to be used in combat. If you play TFC, you'll notice scouts will ignore and just run away from you. TFC medic is more comparable to TF2 scout. A quick class with the supershotgun, that is.

I feel like the problem here is that the classes are being measured in combat instead of objective play. The nail gun, like the syringe gun, is probably pretty effective at discouraging pursuit, especially when comboed with stun grenades and caltrops. While making the heavies fight makes sense, here making them race might've been better. Also what a missed opportunity not discussing the TF2C version of the nailgun to drive home just how much the nail gun needs to be buffed to compete with the scattergun.

The Nail Gun is widely regarded as pretty much useless for killing anything other than Sentries. And the TF2C version is not official so it's not really even worth mentioning. Besides, comparing the classes in anything other than combat is defeating the purpose of this series. A race would easily go to the TFC Scout cause he has movement options inherent to TFC. It was already talked about in the video how the TFC Scout wasn't really meant for combat but to focus on that wouldn't be interesting in a VS scenario. Like when I get to Medic I'm not going to be repeating over and over how the TF2 med isn't meant to be fighting cause that's not what the video is for.

Each class has a job to do, and in Heavy's case that job is tanking damage and dishing it out, so a one-on-one slugfest was exactly the right way to compare the two. For Scout you acknowledge the differences but still use combat as the deciding factor. It's interesting that you bring up Medic, since depending on how you define the job of a medic the outcome differs wildly. And while the TF2C nailgun isn't official it would've been a way to show just how bad the classic nailgun is -- that it needs such an overhaul to be even remotely good.

Tf2 was originally built around a grenade system, but it was removed due to them being too spammy. You could also destroy parts of the environment and use some of the debris to throw at people, like a brick.

An aspect of the Scout not mentioned in this video. In some version of TF, & TFC; the Scout has a Detector that can be used to detect movement, and stationary objects. It's clear from this, and things like Caltrops, that the TFC Scout was not intended to engage in direct combat. He was more meant to act as a trigger for his team. Using the Motion Detector to sense enemies, and then give that detail to his team, inform them of where the Sentries are, Spycheck, disarm bombs, and turn corners to test for danger. He was... unironically; a Scout. Meant to test and search for threats, so when the team moved in; they had an idea of what they were dealing with. Technically making Scout more of a Support class, then an offensive class. The TF2 Scout is just an offensive class, and he does that role arguably better then the others. So while he excels as a combat class, he fails as a Scout in terms of what the Scout was originally intended for. Likely because the original Scout sounded insanely boring to play as. Imagine just being a class meant to annoy the piss out of people; but can't do damage, or anything else...

While trying to picture how different Scout would be if he had the Nailgun as opposed to the Scattergun is mostly just speculation, one can actually experience the Nailgun TF2 Scout in TF2 Classic. From my experiences with the mod, the Nailgun seems to be better that TFC’s Nailgun, as it’s projectiles do a fair amount of damage at close ranges and are easier to hit. This Nailgun also has more range that the Scattergun, and this thus encourages a playstyle where a Scout keeps his range from other players and focuses more on dodging than shooting, as the nails are easier to hit and missing a few doesn’t punish the Scout much. I envision a TF2 Nailgun Scout to be less of a high risk and high reward class that requires him to get really close to enemies to do high damage, but instead more so a class that constantly harasses the enemy and puts himself in less danger to get kills.

The TF2Classic nailgun is not accurate to how it would have actually behaved in development. It was supposed to be like the TFC Nailgun, just as Medic's Syringe Gun is just the counterpart to TFC's Super Nailgun.

The Nailgun that would work for me would be a Percussion Nailgun(propelled by blank bullets instead of compressed air) have some sort of Military or Mercenary like design over a modified DIY Nailgun look and have 40 shots of rapid fire primary and a 5 ammo using 5 nail Shortstop like shotgun burst on the secondary. Primary is a rapid fire Nail Spitter, the Alt fire is a 8 shot 5 pellet shotgun shot, both variants could be upgraded in MVM to shoot explosive nails or bleed on hit nails. this can also open up a ne unlock of a secondary two barrel Obrez Shotgun with a folding stock that has single shot and both barrel shot modes. what do you think of all of this?

I think once this series is wrapped up, this concept could make an interesting custom game mode. I have no idea how you'd get the TFC weapons into TF2, but like Red would be the TF2 mercs and Blu would be the TFC mercs. Stock weapons only for TF2, random crits and random bullet spread off. Could even make a nice end cap for this series.

In TFC, Medic is prettymuch better at anything you'd want Scout for. Medic has much better damage, is still faster than everyone else, self heals, and 90 medium armour points instead of 50 light, and still has the concussion grenade plus regular grenade.

Source: TF2 Wiki *Health* TFC Spy has 90 health and 100 medium armor, equivalent to about 175 health, whereas TF2 Spy has 125 health, tied for lowest alongside Scout, Engineer, and Sniper. TFC wins *Speed* TFC Spy moves at 100% speed, while TF2 Spy moves at 107% speed. However, TFC Spy can bunnyhop to make up for slightly slower speed, though that is rarely used in real TFC games. *Abilities* Both Spies can disguise as other classes, Other than that, they have completely different abilities. - TFC Spy can feign death, where he pretends to be a corpse. And grenade jump like the other TFC classes. He can also remove the other Spy's disguise by touching him. - TF2's Spy can cloak, where he turns invisible and takes slightly reduced damage, allowing him to sneak behind the enemy more easily. This lasts 10 seconds and can be refilled with ammo packs. He also has a Sapper to destroy Engineer buildings, but that won't help in a 1v1. TF2 wins purely from what's practical in a 1v1 *Grenades* TF2 doesn't have grenades. TFC's Spy has 4 Hand Grenades and 4 Hallucination Grenades. The Hallucination Grenades release gas that causes the player to see fake explosions. TFC wins by default *Melee* Both Spies can backstab for an instakill, but for front-facing stabs, Although TF2's stock knife deals slightly more with 40 damage as opposed to TFC's 36, TFC's knife swings faster, dealing more damage per second, ie. twice as much as the TFC Crowbar. TFC wins *Guns* TF2 Spy only has the Revolver, which deals a maximum of 60 damage per shot every 0.5 seconds. TFC's Spy has three guns, none of them can match the damage of the Revolver. - The Tranquilizer Gun: Shares the same 40 shells as the shotgun (but only fires 1), deals 18 damage per shot, each hit slows down the target's movement speed and turn time. Not very useful as a damaging weapon, but still a neat utility. - Double Barrel Shotgun: The closest damage comparison compared to the Revolver in terms of DPS and range. It holds 16 shells out of 40, but fires 2, effectively giving 8 shots per round and 20 shots overall, as opposed to the Revolver's 6 shots out of 30. If all the pellets connect it deals 56 damage. Despite a lack of damage falloff, the bullets spread, but you can still deal about 20-30 damage at longer ranges. It also fires and reloads a bit slower than the Revolver. - The Nailgun. 9 damage per nail, 100 nails without needing to reload, can deal 100 damage in 1.12 seconds, compared to 0.5 seconds with 2 shots of the Revolver. When the enemy keeps moving, the nails are less likely to hit, making it harder to use in combat. *Overall* Best case scenario, both spies are able to instantly kill the other with a single backstab, but realistically, TFC's Spy can tank more damage (about 3-4 revolver shots), use more guns, facepoke faster, and throw grenades, while TF2's Spy has better escape options should things get ugly. I'd say TF2's Spy wins. Despite only 1 gun and not being able to take much damage, his Invis Watch can be used to get a surprise backstab when the TFC Spy isn't aware. But if both spies faced each other at a medium range, TFC's Spy may be able to tank a couple of Revolver shots, fire enough shotgun shots to force his counterpart to cloak and retreat, then tranq him and finish him off with either the Nailgun or by stabbing him while he's slowed down.

Admittedly, this was unfair from the start, as the two characters have different roles. And while agree with the findings here (can’t argue math), the fact that their jobs are different puts the findings into question. TF2 scour is an ambush flanker. His job a kit revolve around getting around the enemy and hitting them while distracted, and when not doing that, he is designed to work with his team and get the objectives done faster. By contrast, TFC scout was a fast moving spearhead who’s skillset was designed around getting to the flag and defending himself long enough to get it to the capture point. He can help the rest of the team as his support, but they would tell him to just go get the flag. So their roles are vastly different from one another. If you want a decent comparison from TFC, go with TFC medic. Those players would ignore healing anyone in favor of getting to the flank and just hitting the enemy with his virus attack.

TFC Scout’s mobility is a bit underrated. I mean imagine Scout, as annoying as he already is, being able to what essentially is pipe jumping along with bhopping in exchange for double jump. From my perspective what they were trying to with the Classic Scout was give focus on completing the objective rather than the flanking CQC class that TF2 Scout is.

I imagine that if they met, the tf2 scout would have called the tfc scout a weakass while the tfc scout would have called him a mindless brute abusing better equipment and not doing what his name says. In a teamfight, i have no idea who would be more influential. I feel like while the tf2 scout would take center stage, the tfc scout would play more like the spy: leaving traps throwing grenades and strategically picking off weaker enemies with no chance of escaping.

Depending on how long caltrops last, the TFC Scout would be incredibly effective at controlling enemy movement. Most TF2 mercs don't have good movement options, and reducing movement speed would completely neuter a good number of them. Think of the second area of Dustbowl as an example. Nearly every path to the second control point can be filled with caltrops, and getting past them either requires focusing on the caltrops when a Heavy can come super speed bhopping at any moment, or neutering your class with reduced movement.

I'd say that bhopping makes tfc scout's extra speed kind of irrelevant, since if tfc bhopping is anything like quake games bhopping lets you go exponentially faster than default run. So if a bhopping heavy can outspeed a scout it makes your increased run speed kind of irrelevant. On the other hand NOT being able to bhop makes you relatively stronger than the other classes in the game, it would make the TF2 scout slower than the tfc scout. Tough call

Ultimately, I don't think it would matter very much. The TFC Scout can't reliably bhop during combat, which is the important part. He could potentially get the first few shots in because he's likely to find the TF2 Scout first, but even with a head start the TF2 Scout completely shreds him.

I love your videos, sometimes they're hit or miss, but they are almost every time simple, but original, can't wait but wonder how other classes would compare one to another since I haven't played tfc. Idea btw, there used to be models for tf2's grenades, but they were never implemented. I personally think that it would be fun to compare how both could have stand to one another as a still no point for tf2, but a fun trivia about early ideas for tf2 weapons

I feel bunny hopping should've been added to speed otherwise ,on a close range map ,TF2 wins ,if distance ,TFC can easily win (Caltrops,same speed,better damage at distance mix with bunny hops and grenade hops to add extra distance when needed ,reducing tf2's cqc damage advantage)

Even in ideal conditions the TF2 Scout holds even, I think. Remember, the TFC shotgun has significantly better TTK than the TF2 scattergun at mid-long range, but the mid-long range TTK of the pistol is very comparable to the TTK of the TFC shotgun. I doubt caltrops would make a significant difference either, when the TF2 Scout can reliably double jump around them. Grenade jumping would be useful for getting away though, that's true.

@@honorguard7616 Yeah, I guess the shotgun would be easier to hit with. Thinking about it, unless the TF2 Scout is really accurate with his pistol, he's probably going to run out of ammo. 48 shots really isn't very much when you'll likely miss most of them. Meanwhile the shotgun doesn't require good aim to at least hit some shots. I admit that the TFC Scout does in fact probably have the advantage.

While the TFC and TF2 Heavies are fairly evenly matched, this round was a slaughter! TFC's Scout is a horrible combat class and was better off flanking to capture objectives. While TF2's Scout is still really good at that, he's also very well suited to close-range combat, being one of the most powerful CQB classes in the game. The TFC Scout stood absolutely no chance against our resident Boston boy.

I dont think you should have a gernade category if you dont also do unlocks, you said your not doing unlocks cause tfc doesnt have them, so it would be the same for the gernades as none of the tf2 classes have them. Other then that great video as always!

Honestly, TFC sounds a lot more fast paced and skill based. Each weapon does less damage but fires way faster, making aiming a lot more important I can imagine. Less satisfying though

I would say the Mad Milk could count as a grenade, as you throw it like a grenade and it will explode and do an aoe of its effect on enemy players (and allied players that are on fire) but then again is is an unlock so nevermind there

My predictions for future match ups: Soldier: TFC. While I think John Doe has a fighting chance, the tfc solder just has some better stock weapons. Pyro: Tf2. Better tools, AIRBLAST, and afterburner sucks. Demo: IDK. From the explosive options these two have, there would be nothing left of either of them. Need to do more research. Engineer: TF2. The TFC Engineer (the Tf2 enginerrs grandfather) would be proud. The sentry gun, dispenser, teleporter, and even the tf2 shotgun. Enough said. Medic: TF2. One word: UBERCHARGE! Sniper: just a better sniper rifle. Ironically, if the tf2 sniper equipped the classic, the two classes would be nearly identical. Spy: TF2. While they mostly have simular load outs, each has some unique things about them. TFC spy has the super shotgun compared to a zapper or revolver, he has a tranq gun, but I think the main factor will be stealth. While TFC spy would win without disquises or invisibility, the stock TF2 watch is a better upgrade to TFC and the TF2 disquise kit is a much more convincing tool

Medic: While yeah, ubercharge, thats the only good thing in today's medic. TFC medic, is quicker, has grenades, doesnt prioretizer on healing, overall my opinion is it beats ubercharge

Ok so theres a mod for tf2 called “open fortress” and in open fortress theres a mode you can activate for 1 or 2 teams called retro mode, It gives all the classes with retro mode enabled their tfc stats. I tried this in-game and the results came out as you predicted

I would love to see more also the nail gun fires as fast as the Maxim gun, the first automatic weapon. I know a lot of other weapons fire 600rpm (10rps or .1sec delay) like the AK47, the M1919 and the M2.
