The first truck I ever had was a 1978 Ford F100 with an 8 ft bed. It’s nice when you can buy a bunch of 8ft 2X4’s, lay them flat in the bed, then close the tailgate. The first truck I ever drove was my dads 95 F250, it had an 8 ft bed too and even with the aluminum toolbox in the back you could still fit a Honda Foreman 500 and close the tailgate. I bet the trailer companies today are really digging the short bed trend though.

@atx4fun4 ай бұрын
Knowing Ford, that will be for one year, limited supplies and then it will increase $5-10k because they wont make the base anymore. Just like what they have done with the Maverick. The truck is up $5k from what it was introduced as and you can't find a base xl hybrid anywhere without a dealer mark up because of no supply of that configuration.
@302Mustang134 ай бұрын
@@atx4fun Maverick is still a bargain. Base price is around $24k with a 2.0 turbo four with 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft. Even an XLT with AWD can be had for under $30k. A good comparison (non truck though) is the inexpensive Chevy Trax that doesn't even have AWD and is about $23k with a 1.2 3cyl putting out a measley 138 horsepower with a six speed. Those can get up to $30k easily and still can go much higher.

The front of the Ranger looks a lot like the Maverick. It’s too bad that Ford doesn’t bring back the original 2.3L 4cyl engine that was naturally aspirated like in the original Ranger’s from the 80s. Those engines were Bulletproof. We owned 2 of them. We put over 700K miles on one of them and over 500K miles on the other. The one with over 500K was still running strong, not burning any oil, but the electrical system fried, destroying the pickup. Yes they were a bit gutless , but just give it more time to get up to speed and they ran great. Mate them to a 6spd manual transmission with the right gears and they’ll go fine. All of our Ranger’s were 4WD. Our 3rd one had a 3.0L V6 but it started having a lot of issues when it hit 80K miles. Our last one had the 4.0L V6. If was 13 years old when we sold it less than a month ago and that’s when we bought our 23 Tacoma TRD double cab, Premium pkg and a 6’ bed.

Interesting but the original Ranger was from 1965- not the 80's.
@Doc18554 ай бұрын
@@ALMX5DP The Pinto engine was the 1.9L When the Ranger’s first came out they had either a 2.0L, which was a GUTLESS 4 banger, but the 2.3L had 90-110hp. Then they increased the horsepower of the 2.3L to 118-125. The XL came with a 4spd manual and the XLT had the 5spd. The 4WD models had a 5spd manual with a “Granny” low. The 3rd member (rear end) had 4.11 and 4.73 gears which allowed the Ranger’s to tend to be quicker. We have to remember that when the Ranger’s first came out, they replaced the Ford Courier pickup, which was a Re-Badged Mazda, which were extremely light weight but had double walled beds. In 83 when the Ranger first came out, they were bare bones. Vinyl flooring and bench seat, No power steering, crank windows, no A/C and some weren’t even equipped with an AM radio. For 1-2 years the Pinto did have the 2.3L, but it was detuned and had only 72-80 horsepower. The Pinto was a Unibody car, whereas the Ranger had a “C” frame. I think it was in the 08 redesign of the Ranger that received a full box frame. By the late 80s Ford offered a variety choices of engines in the Ranger. The 2.9L was a peppy V6, but it was replaced by the 3.0L V6 that had less horsepower and torque than the 4.0L V6, but got the same fuel economy. Ford had some issues with the early 4.0L V6, but those issues were corrected by 08. When Ford switched from the 2.3L Belt driven engine, they tweaked the engine when it went to the Chain Driven. The Timing Chain driven 2.3L engine wasn’t nearly as reliable as the Belt driven. When the Chain driven engine came out, we bought one with the 3.0L V6. It ran perfectly until it hit 80K miles and then it started burning a LOT of oil. We sold it and told the next owner about the oil consumption. He had to replace the engine. Our last Ranger was our 11. It had the 4.0L V6 and a 5spd automatic transmission, 3.55 gears in the rear. It was a very nice little pickup. It was an XLT super cab 4WD of course. We drove it until last month (2/24) and that’s when we bought our 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab, premium pkg and a 6’ bed. At my age and since I drive about 5-6K miles per year, our current Toyota will be the last truck I’ll ever own. Enjoy your day, Cheers

I’m not sure why Ford and GM still use this antiquated and ill placed antenna. If you put a cap or rack on the truck it sticks up into that space. Every time you load lumber, ladders or a kayak the antenna has to be folded down manually as to not damage it. Shark fin antennas are small compact and solve that problem. This is a deal breaker for me-it reduces the utility of what a truck does and becomes annoying when you have to fold it down multiple times per week/month/year.

All those high tech features are negative to me because when stuff really hits the fan and there is no dealership to go do or garage. What vehicles are going to keep driving around if we really did like go to a severe war and everything was over as you knew it. Yes this is a huge hypothetical but even without that hypothetical the more stuff a car has the more things there are to break the more things you have to maintain and also the more modules. This is why batteries don't last as long. Not to mention everything is just made like crap in today's world. Man. Sometimes buying parts that are from like 10 years ago but still in the box. Unopened are better than buying the exact same part today because somehow it was built better 10 years ago. Like just very strange. Everything in this world is strange right now and I wouldn't buy a new car unless you're going to pay for it with cash because then you own it. The bank doesn't own it and if you want to sell it in a year or two years you can get your money back or most of it. But if you're financing stupid I think financing and leasing is the dumbest thing in the world depending on your life. Like if you need your car and all you're doing is driving. Yeah sure leasing might be a good idea for you but if you're everyday due to just goes to work and punches the clock you don't need a brand new car bro especially if you just going to be paying arm and a leg for it for the next 3000 years like f*** that

@@shaniyoung6506 Go drive an F-150 reg cab 2WD with the 3.3 V6 and then drive a 2.7 Ecoboost with 4x4 and crew cab. The heavier version with the 2.7 TT V6 will dust the lighter 3.3 V6 version.

But here’s the real question, is it a ford effin Ranger ?!?? !!!

Can you compare it to a 90s Ford ranger?

I mean look around man when you see old cars driving around are they high level trim or base models? Most of the time they're basic and there's a reason why they're still driving

I wish we would have gotten the 5 cylinder diesel manual in the Rangers

Major miss byt Ford on the styling compared to the latest GM twins and Tacoma.

It's a little more safe on styling, but the Colorado is too bold IMO.

That automatically computer-controlled turning steering wheel will come in real handy when you're driving on the highway at 65 miles an hour, and it decides it wants to show off its special features. Then you end up in a ditch
@erics86964 ай бұрын
just turn it off.

That’s… not how it works at all. It has to be manually turned on, and the dial can’t be turned without you turning it.

Yea, just like the computer-controls on the new Boeing airplanes which, every now and then, decide to nose-dive the airplane. Get rid of all this high-tech nonsense and let human beings drive the truck. @@The-fs5wn

Sounds like you are talking about lane centering. On my Ford it can be switched off on the steering wheel. Second, it requires both hands on the wheel like you always should do. It isn't BlueCruise.
