Many Greek songs are based on poetry, poetry used to be really important to us Greeks enabling us to dream and to connect more deeply since our history is complicated yet we value the importance of language, of conveying meanings.

I am so glad you reacted to another of my requests brother. I believe this is your 3rd reaction to Marinella now (Known as the great lady of song in Greece). Giorgos Dalaras (Pronounced like Yor- Goss) it the best selling Greek singer of all time and often tours around the world doing concerts all over. Both amazing artists! For those of you who don't know, this song was originally sung by Andrea Bocelli and Portuguese Fado singer Dulce Pontes. Also an amazing version! 🙂

You gotta listen to the original one and make a review by Dulce Pontes and Andrea Bocceli - O mare e tu. That's the original one. It refers to the sea (O mare) which is in fact the Meditteranean sea. In general, Greek is truly a 'poetic' full of metaphors and symbols so it's really interesting to see how our artist and specific our song writers express their emotions and thoughts . Unfortunately it's really difficult to be translated in English .(Also, a lot of songs in that type of music have poems for lyrics . Not sure if that song is in this category)

Dalaras, though highly political, was really good but at the same time underdeveloped as an artist. His tenor-ish vocals always screamed "i can do much more". Here in Greece artist rest on their glory. Stelios kazantzidis had similarly plateaued (the best of them all). The same with Vicky Moscholiou. She was the best female voice of Greece EVER, but never ever had she a global impact. Maybe it's our music industry wrong. I don't know... Glad to have lived at their times.
