Exquisite car, remember them when they were new and was completely mesmerised with them in the same way it sounds that Henry was... I know what he means about the gearshift though; I had a Westfield Megablade and we swapped our original 893cc engine for a 919cc, and found that the gear linkage suddenly worked backwards... took some getting used too! My Megabusa thankfully is the "right" way around again, and is also very light (thanks to lots of carbon) at 420kg dry... 380kg though?!? Wow! Once again, lovely car, I'd love to see more of it.

@johnl.75824 жыл бұрын
@Jorn Navarre Well, it depends on what you mean by "handling". On track it was incredible, it leaned monstrously but handled beautifully. On a bumpy road it got out of shape pretty quickly, but was still plenty of fun. The best thing about light weight was almost zero tyre and brake wear. I did a number of track days on a single set of road-legal semi-slick tyres and pads, driving probably 2 hours on track each time, round and round right on the limit. There is almost no road car you can do that in, even an Elise is about twice the weight and eats tyres and pads, relatively speaking.

Absolutely loved this. I remember looking at one Caterham Cars had in stock many years ago. Another great vid by the best in the business!

Sounds like it drives more like a motorcycle rides - off the throttle into corners to get some frontend grip, neutral thru the corner. Would be fun to drive harder on a tighter track. Looks lovely, all around.

I didn't know that trick with this sweet car's headlamps, thank you for the video.

About the weight of a Triumph Rocket III (1st gen). Remember this being released. One if the first cars (quadracycles!) I really wanted to own. I'm sure a red one was on the cover of Car magazine. Gazed at it for hours. Great vid as ever Mr. Catchpole. Very high on the "that one please, Mr Leno" list.

This is basically a faired-in go-kart with 135 horsepower and a sequential gearbox! I can scarcely imagine how sensational that is to drive... thank you for this.

Wanted to see that plain and simple gentleman named JIM CLARK at the cockpit. That man had better qualifying speed than Senna and better race pace than Schumacher. The greatest driver of all time.

Agree with your comments on the sequential box, its definitely arse about face. Upchanges should be toward you, downshifts away.

This looks so much like the formula student cars we built in college with a Honda cbr 600rr that would rev to 10.8k! The control arms and wheel carriers are almost identical. Having driven that on track, I can say with certainty it’s An absolute riot of an experience!!

Can confirm that this is one of the best driving roads to test this car. Its in the South of the Brecon Beacons National Park near Crickhowell if my eyes do not decieve me.

I thought Keeper’s Pond near Blaenavon.

Rewatching, I’m convinced it’s the B4560, driving in each different direction to/from the T junction between Llangynidr, Crickhowell and Garnlydan. Though from the arial view of maps, some of the views look very close to those in Blaenavon.

What a gorgeous setting to test any car. *sigh* I only dream of roads like that.

That stretch of road you're on is great, especially on a bike. Top Gear have used it a lot in the past.

I had a Triumph Rocket 3, an inline 3 cylinder motorcycle, with about 135hp, and still weighed about 700lb, but this is what I always wanted!

Sweet sweet review Henry! Also, that exhaust note is darn raspy. In-line 4 magic.

I noticed the weight issue when I had a Civic hybrid. It was built light to save fuel. The problem being that in strong crosswinds, you had to keep a firm grip of the steering wheel. Unlike the heavier Accord I owned previously.
@K20EF84 жыл бұрын
The Civic Hybrid isnt really a light vehicle. They are undertyred for their size in an effort to decrease rolling resistance which doesnt help when encountering strong winds at highway speed.

Great review of one of my all time favorites that's not a Lotus Seven/Caterham!
