I recently purchased an HP Elitedesk 800 Small Form Factor G4 from Ebay and I absolutely love it. I installed an Intel i7 8700 cpu and 32gb of ram using all 4 slots, 8gb per slot and added a AMD Radeon RX6400 low profile graphics card and trust me, this thing rocks! It may be the best PC I own now out of all my HP Elitedesk 800 series. I have my monitor sitting right on top of it and it works out perfectly. Oh, I also added a Noctua NH-L9i cooling fan as the stock fan couldn't quite keep the i7 8700 cool enough for my liking. Anyway, great videos, HMDT. Very informative. Keep up the good work/channel.

I've been tempted by those SFF. The prices are pretty good if you can get free or reduced shipping. Thanks for watching and enjoy your cool rig.

i've been enjoying your videos as I actually ordered a s206 dm 8gb 240gb nvme an i5 7500 for £46 ("60 ish US) as it was cheaper than a raspberry pi and all it will be doing is running HomeAssistant OS, I also bought a G3 800 which turned up today and came with a 95w psu which I will buy a normal 65w for it, Its super clean and super quiet was hoping it had a single stick of 8gb as I already have one here ready to use. So glad I bought these after seeing how well they run.

I went through much the same thing when I wanted to get into VMs and mini computers - the PI was actuallly pretty expensive and when I saw these HPs I thought "I'm getting a great deal"!

I have several G1s and G2s. I may have to try the G3s

I used to be a bit biased against the G3 and now it's my main computer.

Thanks. I wanted to create a slightly "shorter" video than my others to bring more folks into the EliteDesk fandom.

There is a listing for an 800 G3 65w for parts on eBay for $20 that was put up this morning, there are six left. I picked it up for the vented top, copper heatsink, and SSD tray w/fan. Didn't know if you had the need for another parts unit.

Thanks, I just came across it. Soooo tempting but I do have several G3s already. Hoping others take advantage of it.

@@handmedowntech Glad you got to see it, they raised the price a bit, it was just under $20 shipped. Then I had a duh moment, I own a G4, and the G3's heatsink won't fit in a G4 from what I read. I thought I had a G3 for some reason, and I really wanted that vented top too. Looks like a project unit, I'll need to find another parts unit, and piece it together :)
@handmedowntech3 ай бұрын
Those looked like clean units. You can get a i5-7500t for it if you don't want to go the full 65w CPU route. That's basically what I have for my normal computer. They were selling the 7500t for $6 on the same site, 3 available, so I placed an order. We'll see if the CPU actually works.

@@handmedowntech I saw that one for parts. Hope it works out. Watched your video on the vPro setup. Thanks for making that one.

@@handmedowntech Update, that seller cancelled my order, saying the shipping cost was wrong, now its up to $25. So I just shopped around and found a 65W i5-7600 G3 16GB w/AC for $59.99 Free Shipping. That listing had a few more for sale. Thought that was a decent price.

Could you replace the WiFi card with an SSD?

Yes, I have two videos covering that topic. One for G3 and the other for G4. Works well.

35w can use 60w processor
@handmedowntech3 ай бұрын
You can put a 65w CPU in a 35w unit but you will need the 90w power adapter. Might also need the copper heatsink to help with thermals.

@@handmedowntechif I put 'normal' i5 processor (e.g i5-6500) what about heat produced in closed case? Will it fry the motherboard (or even the processor)?
@handmedowntech3 ай бұрын
I've always used the non T with a vented case. I don't see it frying the processor, you just might get slower performance as it heats up.

@@handmedowntech thank you for the information. Actually, I need a second opinion. I have to choose between prodesk 600 G2 with i3-6100t, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD; and elitedesk 800 G3 65W with i3-6100, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, the price was same. In your personal opinion, which one should I choose? I plan to use as my home lab with proxmox/vmware.

Couple of things - if those are mechanical drives I'd swap out for either SATA or NVME. As far as units they are pretty much the same - the 600 has an intel NIC like the 800. Since you would be running this 24/7 you may want to choose something with less power draw like the 35W 600 - my true preference would be a 800 35W if you can swing it but that is mostly because of where my experience lies.
