In my 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid AWD review, I'll show you why this is the best first car you can buy. The Toyota Corolla 2023 model year adds additional trims to the lineup but the most important is the availability of AWD. It's powered by a 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle inline-4 + 3 AC motors making 138 horsepower. Now it's not the most powerful car but it is one of the most comfortable and fuel-efficient compact sedans you can buy. In fact, I think the 2023 Toyota Corolla itself is one of the best first cars one can purchase. Let's take a closer look!

if you get the AWD LE version then the corolla is much cheaper and has more tech than the civic, with better mileage. If you arn't getting hybrid then go with civic

Good review. I have a 2015 Corolla S with about 126k km on it. Absolutely solid car. No major and even minor repairs needed. Just regular maintenance and one firmware update for the CVT tranny (one taillight replaced). My gf’s back can give her issues. Back when she had a Ford Escape, the seats were brutal on her back. We were headed on a 800km trip and she was concerned how her back would be after that. She was comfortable all the way in mine. The car has always been successful for a reason. Until the redesign (which is why I got one) it was pretty ugly. It became a nice looking car. It’s hard to beat Toyota and it’s also would be hard for me to leave them.

i would go with the Corolla, it have a more futuristic design Toyota didn’t even have to do much to it, the civic is a great car but it looks like an old time Honda accord! Toyota has the best marketing strategy in the business look what they did to the SE turn it into a sporty hybrid most people wants a fuel ⛽️ efficient car 🚗 including myself 😊

i have a corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 49 MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2000rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. so for a corolla, i believe i can get 55MPG if using the same technique.

Navigation is an add on because you can always use your phones navigation via wireless CarPlay. So there’s no need to have it on the car. Unless you have an old flip phone that doesn’t have Google maps or anything

Try a Honda Accord Hybrid Sport (larger engine, more space, better infotainment center) I test drove the Camry Hybrid and couldn't fit it in (6' 4 " 220 lbs) comfortably.

Watching the tachometer fluctuate between 4,000 and then shut off as you move along at a steady speed would be giving me the wrong sensory input. I can only imagine having the car loaded with 3 passengers and a few items in the trunk it will accelerate like a snail. Its a decent looking little car that probably makes great MPGs but from someone that likes driving, this is as exciting as a toaster appliance. I was considering maybe a Toyota Camry Hybrid because it too can make about 47 MPG, has good room for adults and a great reputation but it seems that Hybrid drive system work like on this Corolla. I think the Civic is looking really good.

One problem with my 2023 Corolla hybrid is the fancy headlights. In the center area directly in front of you are two shadows that stick down into the lit part. The first time I drove the car at night while turning, it literally looked like an animal running across the street directly in front of the car. I jammed on my brakes so I would not hit it. Only to realize it was a defect in the headlight array. My dealer said to me that the lights are not adjustable so just get used to it. Maybe they will fix it in the future. The real problem will be the day an actual animal is running across my path and I ignore it and hit it. This is a real safety problem with this headlight design and get used to it is not a proper response.

There is no need for an AWD. Just take the FWD and drive like a sensible driver, which is what most Corolla drivers are...

@@wityenthao Well yeah, when you are in Canada or Alaska. But in most places, a FWD will do fine. I live in midwest and we have snow from time to time and I always managed with FWD.

FWD is all one needs for actual driving if you have a good set of winter tires. AWD is an added bonus with the winter tires.

Model 3 base model is $42K after destination and order fee, plus tax is let’s say $45.5K, after $3750 tax credit is around $42K. A cheapest Corolla Hybrid is $25.5K, after tax fee is $$28K. The $14K difference gets you 3500 gallons assuming $4 per gallon, at 50MPG, it pays for 175K miles food gas. But I haven’t figure in the maintenance cost on the Corolla yet.

It's plain and simple. You can always go for the Hyundai if you want design but reliability is a question.

Front is pretty off-putting & doesn't match rest of vehicle, and based on my regular 2020 Corolla SE sedan experience Toyota cut quite a few corners on this model (& mine had a handful of electronic/mechanical problems as a bonus). I would rather spend a few more grand & get the sexy little 2023+ new Prius if I was hunting for a hybrid car. But, I fear that Toyota doesn't build their newer vehicle as good as they used to. My less-expensive 2015 Yaris SE hatch was such a better (& 100% bulletproof reliable) car than my problematic, buzzy 2020 Corolla SE sedan was (IMO).

What do you expect to pay? $15,000 in the year 2024? The average car price is close to $50,000 now. Car prices are never fair as our salaries can't keep up with the rise in car prices.
