Attention! This guy knows his stuff! One thing overlooked and most do miss on these carbs, is the actual needle length may differ from one carb to the next, Common issue is the little E clip wears out the needle where it seats, you may find you set it in the middle groove after a month of solid riding it has worn to the second groove, This is caused by the needle bottoming out to hard on the jet causing the spring to push against the clip slowly wearing it, About the only solution I came up with so far is swapping out to a gentler spring, A progressive spring I McGyver'd up by gently heating the first couple coils on a spring to relax it's tensile strength a bit. This allows a weaker pressure at closed throttle and gets stiffer as opening, it's a balance lol Yes I trashed a few getting it right or close enough I do not get wear anymore 😊 Cheers Mate for some great videos

Regarding springs, I haven't had to do it, but I think it'd be possible to jerry rig it with an ink pen's spring (the clicking pens, of course).

I tried the so called "racing" carburetor for the stage 4 66cc 2stroke BBR TUNING I bought two Jets + and - from what they are setup with. I COULD NOT match the speed of the NT carburetor that was properly set up.
@keithfreeman52044 жыл бұрын
Tuning. To get the 80cc engine to run in 2 cycle mode. Changing Main Jet size. Most engines come with a #70 jet which in most cases is just to rich. Here in Mid Michigan I am at 774 ASL. A #65 was richer. What I have noticed is the #60 is the largest hole and the #80 the smallest. With the stock jet the rich setting gives a lot of torque but in 4 stroke, up to speed then I back off the throttle, the engine clears and starts to run in 2 cycle. Adding a bit of throttle the engine will produce a pop sound from the exhaust and will run rougher. Back off the throttle a tad the engine smooths out, gets quieter, and power comes up. I have tried several different sizes of jets. # 72 and # 74 are next on the list to try. My next thing to try is adding a "Walbro" carb so I can adjust the jets with a screwdriver. This is the carb that is found on chainsaws, weedeaters, backpack blowers and other 2 cycle engines, it has BOTH High and Low needle screws. I fly R/C airplanes and have a 3 CID 2 cycle engine running with a Walbro carb. This engine spins a 14 x 6 MAS prop. Fuel mix is 92 oct, with the Stehl Chainsaw engine oil. mixed to 40 - 1.This is my standard fuel mix for all my 2 cycle engines. I am running a "Zeda Firestorm", with tuned pipe, big heat sink high compression head, the big box type reed valve. This is a minor carb problem I'm working on. This seems to be one subject that all of the articles on the net concerning Gasbike engines just doesn't address. I don't know why but when I listen to a Gasbike engine run and it's running to 4 stroke just BOTHERS me .Smooth running high power 2cycle running strong, like in a chainsaw, is what these engines should sound like and running smooth. From here in Michigan KEITH

Thanks for the info on fully seating the carb on the intake manifold. The carb "seemed" to be fully seated because the carb was resting on the ridge of the manifold. It turns out I had to expand the carb flanges so they would go over the ridge in order to get a full seat. Now it runs great!

good video on NT slide valve carb. I've got one coming to replace the stock carb on my 49CC 4 stroke. I failed to rinse the junk out of the new gas tank , it clogged everything, there are passageways that can't be cleared without drilling out the brass welch plugs to get access to hidden jets and orifices. The stock carb was fine until the junk got into it, H124C carb. I tried carb cleaner, ultrasonic bath, compressed air, no dice. When the NT carb arrives I'm gonna drill the welch plugs out and see what the problem was.

What's your mix ratio? Have you done a half throttle plug burn to see how it burns there? If it's black and nasty it's running way to rich and start by adjusting your mix slowly, Then go about changing jets, get your mix right first to your driving area, one thing I noticed not really talked about correctly is mix does play a factor in your tune before you start to jet, my mix tune for half throttle may be richer than what you need, or leaner depending on altitude, humidity, mix oil, and gas, . Always start out rich and ween your motor off the oil slowly and do a plug burn at half throttle to check it, black is rich, Brown is good but wee bit rich, White or pale grey, to lean get some oil in there fast lol. Personally I like mine just a tad on the browser side, gives life and longevity , once I get that I tune the jet and again I do plug burns at full throttle to check. Then adjust my jet accordingly. I sit with a 68 in my carbs. Oh a plug burn,, Hold throttle at point where you want to read the plug for 10 second count, then hit kill switch and shut motor down and release throttle at sametime. Shut fuel of and do not touch throttle again until you pull the plug and look at it. 👍
@gerardjones78814 жыл бұрын
@@SandmanOG how does one adjust mix ratio? what are you talking about, its no good if you aren't specific.
@SandmanOG4 жыл бұрын
Mix ratio for oil to gas,, Richer mix more oil, good on break in lubes everything and runs engine cooler, can foul plug and cause 4stroking or firing on every other stroke Leaner mix less oil, after break in, more power, runs hotter, no foul plugs and no 4 stroking

Here is my GREAT way of solving the air leak issue.... wrap the manifold with a few layers of yellow plumber's tape, get the carb snugly on, ditch the stock clamp altogether and use a hose clamp from the hardware store, and get it decently tight and you won't be having any leaks there for sure! EDIT: The stock "hose" clamp is terrible. In my case, it didn't squeeze strong enough to keep the carb from flying OFF the manifold [this happening because when the piston goes down and closes the intake port, all the fuel and air coming through the manifold suddenly hits a wall, literally, and this causes tremendous back pressure, which blew my carb off].
@gyromurphy3 жыл бұрын
Yeah dude. The crap "steel" screw they give you will start to buckle and eventually snap. I went with the same clamp but swapped the screw for a good steel Allen bolt. Works way better. But as to taping the tip there...I figured that was necessary. I'm shocked it's not in the instructions. I even went a step further putting oil resistant gasket sealer on the slot. It works great

It has a new spark plug as well. When I try to run it, it seems like it wants to bog down and it doesn't idle when I'm still. When I give it gas, it also wants to shut off. Would drilling holes in the air filter work along with adjusting the idler screw? Any tips are appreciated.

would a slightly hotter plug fix the 4 stroking issue?
@HughesMotorized3 жыл бұрын
No. The issue is the Main Jet. It is too rich. The Main Jet handles from 3/4 to full open throttle and they intentionally have it rich from the factory as the extra fuel helps lubricate and cool things off. Not so good for performance but they are mostly interested in keeping the engine running thru the warranty period. Removing the air filter helps lean it out some but still needs like a #66 jet

Do you mean 65 jets cause I can't find any that say 66
@HughesMotorized3 жыл бұрын
a 65 would be fine. Some kits have them, some don't a 65 to 68 should work about the same

Remove the filter and you'll be fine. I have someone in Las Vegas desert running fine without a filter.

please mr. hughes that darn drain screw washer leaks kind of bad . where can i get a new washer for that screw?
@HughesMotorized Жыл бұрын
It's a specialty item. Not sold separately. The treads of the screw will seal it. Get a new screw and metal washer from HW store
@larryshaver35683 жыл бұрын
a tiny washer before the jet screw goes in will allow the metering clip to be a little higher and still keep the mixture from being too lean
@larryshaver35683 жыл бұрын
please disregard the above

I'm running a 4 stroke 49cc 142F. I changed to the NT, but no matter what I do, it runs rich. Running a jet i modded with solder and a needle that"s less than the smallest jet I have which is #61. Clip at top of needle. (Leanest) Do a plug chop, and it's black. I am just about to put the stock carb back on. Hoping you'll answer soon. Gonna go try to make an even smaller jet. I live in Central FL BTW, so everything I've read and seen says I should be good with the #61, but it's too rich. I've looked everywhere. Please help.

I had some issues w/ the NT carb on that one. I use the stock carb on the 142F

@@HughesMotorized Thank You for the quick response. Yes, unfortunately I concur. I ordered all 3 original green gaskets, cut the excess off of the screw that holds the throttle plate, dremeled down the inner light grey plastic on the choke plate, slightly widened the jet, and took off the welch plug to access the fuel/air idle mix. Hopefully, when I put it back on it won't be running as lean. Was idling too high, but then gargles at full throttle w/ stock carb. Plug chop reveals a grey/white plug. This is why I changed in the first place. This is the 2nd carbI bought. The first one was an HP for $28, then when that didn't work, I got an NT ($10) because I already bought the intake peice and wanted to use it. Now, it's just a waste of money as the intake + 2 carbs + new gaskets + jets = $70!!! Not to mention my patience wearing extremely thin. I want it to sound like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2ikpmacaL-nb6s&lc=UgyEWwTNXBi5iGAIv1h4AaABAg.97HhRpvAIMj99E6rzQRVth

I missed something. Just how does the pin at the end of the throttle cable regulate fuel flow? I can see that it slides in and out of the jet tube, but how does it affect the flow. Does it uncover holes in the side of the tube or something?
@HughesMotorized3 жыл бұрын
The needle lets in more fuel the higher it goes from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle. After 3/4 throttle it is the size of the jet that controls fuel
@Urugami453 жыл бұрын
@@HughesMotorized Yes, the video says what the needle does, but does not explain HOW it does this. For instance, a needle valve that I'm familiar with increases flow by pulling a tapered pin out of a hole, increasing the area through which the fuel can flow. This needle does not look tapered, so how does it let more fuel flow as it's pulled up the tube? I'm not trying to be difficult, but I really want to know what's going on here. Thanks
@HughesMotorized3 жыл бұрын
@@Urugami45 Yes. It is tapered. www.google.com/search?q=nt+carb+needle&client=ms-android-google&prmd=isvxn&sxsrf=AOaemvJLZhUIkQAtAHIniYbE2XLmovw55w:1639845769449&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjk2MvE5e30AhWokokEHfr0ANAQ_AUoAXoECAIQAQ&biw=393&bih=730&dpr=2.75#imgrc=AqwaWz4Xfl1ZvM

OK, I see it now. I've seen this needle in a few videos before yours, and I couldn't tell it was tapered. I've seen it in a few vids since that it is indeed smaller at the end. Sorry for my confusion.

Hey I'm having a little problem with my motorized bicycle takes off smooth but when I pick up the speed it blubbers at the end of the top speed, I'm pretty sure their stock Jets so if I put a 66 jet I should be good
@HughesMotorized4 жыл бұрын
2 things. 1. Yes. Leaner jet will help. 2. The engine simply maxes out due to balancing and the like. That's what you are seeing
@motorizedbicyclerider52964 жыл бұрын
@@HughesMotorized hey thanks for your response , I'll give it a shot and I'm going to go with the 66 jet
