As a backpacking long-distance hiker, I carry wool socks in my hiking shoes in my car at all times. Behind my front seat so that I can always get to them and I keep a flashlight and a rain jacket handy. In the winter I carry a down jacket. I consider these basic necessities. My backpack is my bugout bag. Can't say about the ex-officio undies as I am allergic to polyester. I do carry nylon they dry super fast as well.

Great advices again Crysta! For underwear, one can also get the PolarTec (USA made) Official issue by US military. You can find them in Military surplus stores.
@dieterhonchied51127 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention what's good about the US military wear... they are cool, anti-microbial (like your suggestion as well), not easily torn, great insulator while not very thick. Also, quite comfortable actually because it feels a bit like nylon synthetic material. Also, some can withstand fire as well.

Excellent suggestion!

Check out Red Wing boot brand wool socks. They have a smaller thickness, but the inside is a terry cloth looped fabric inside. The newest (and best) clone of the Red Wing socks are Costco wool socks. They are made of very serious wool fabric. You can wear a set over any normal sock, and have warm feet and toes (sleeping bag or active boots) at 22 F. If you want even more insulation, then wearing a M and L set over the original dress socks, you will be warm down into negative temperatures. The terry cloth looping wicks the moisture from the feet, while also using the loops for a warm air layer insulation. The outer portion of the wool sock further wicks the moisture to the outside, while preventing any outside coldness from penetrating inside. Costco sells them as a 4 pack, and get both M and L, and you won't regret them.

I personally love darn tough socks. Their wool socks kick butt and are worth every penny. Your feet won't stink either. darntough.com American made is always a bonus! Now, merino wool underwear is oooh sooo awesome as well. I own Exofficio underwear and yes they are nice and are easy to wash and dry anywhere you find yourself but when you try merino wool underwear you will be pleased. Plus they help with odor just like the merino wool socks on long hikes and hot days. I like 2 brands best for the underwear, WoolX and Icebreaker . I find them all on Amazon. These may seem expensive for a pair of underwear but believe me when you see how nice they feel and wear, you will want another pair. I try to steer away from cotton in my bugout bag except for wash cloths. You really want to manage your core temperature so that it doesn't manage you. Cotton sucks at both cooling efficiency and warming. Merino wool regulates very well when warmth is needed and UV blocking long sleeve shirts like that wick and cool are the best in the heat. Stuff like the pro bass anglers wear is what I wear in the sun and heat. A large brim vented hat and neck gaiter with some good sunglasses too. Sun is best avoided when trying to stay cool. Light and bright colors to reflect heat. I am enjoying exploring your channel and very much like the content.

Don't skimp on socks. When your feet go and you can no longer walk you are dead. Underarmour has fast drying, wicking, silver impregnated socks. Wore some for three days, little odor, than washed and air dried them in less than 18 hours. The exofficio underpants are great as well. Went to europe for three weeks with two pair. Washed them in the shower at the hotel every night. They were always dry by the next day.

Excellent video. The only thing I would ad is that you want to have a clean dry pair of socks to wear to sleep in. Never wear the socks you wore during the day. Your feet will get cold if you do and then the foot problems start. The military has always spent considerable effort on protecting the feet of soldiers. That is extremely important especially in a stressful situation. Thanks again for the video.

If I were allergic, I would certainly go with wool socks, but perhaps you can find a natural blend underwear. Straight wool might be pretty uncomfortable. ...perhaps look for Merino wool or Silk. Thanks for the comment!

will the socks last like the underwear or will you need more socks than underwear. plus what are the stats on them both as we cannot get the brands you mentioned here in the UK so i need to know what i am looking for. love your videos not all are relevant to me as i will be bugging out so food in jars are two heavy for me to carry but i am about to try vacuum sealing food so i can load up a bag with food when i bugout. its nice to have a female prospective for a change instead of all the testosterone on you tube. cheers Big Phil UK
@crystald3655 Жыл бұрын
I would say at least two pairs of wool socks or good hiking socks, a good pair of hiking shoes and a good set of moisture wicking underwear 2pairs at least. You can vacuum seal the clothes as well to save some space and keep them clean and dry.

For a grid down situation you'll want to get from point a to point b as quickly and safely as possible, a good way to stay safe is to keep moving. Also, you'll need to be traveling light so wool hiking socks will require fewer pairs as they won't need to be changed as often.

@sonniepronounceds-au-ni92876 жыл бұрын
I know it is a late response, but every woman washes her underwear in the sink. That's what you have to do with delicates every time you wash them as well as any other underwear when it's that time of the month. You don't just throw it in the laundry basket or washing machine with other clothes without pretreating them. That would be gross and stain the clothing.
@sonniepronounceds-au-ni92876 жыл бұрын
You can't wash a lot of clothing in the washing machine including lingerie.
