These kinds of cases are honestly the creepiest. It's pretty much guaranteed that George Hodel was the killer (fun fact, the guy was a musical prodigy and tested far beyond a genius IQ when he was young). There are numerous documents of LAPD high command stating in private conversations amongst themselves that they knew exactly who the Black Dahlia Killer was: "a doctor who lived on Franklin Avenue in Hollywood", "a doctor they all knew in Hollywood involved in abortions", "a doctor but we didn't have enough to put him away" yet if you can't prove it then you can't exactly go screaming it from the rooftops, because you'll be hit with slander and libel lawsuits. Makes you wonder just how many other 'unsolved' murders are actually just 'known but unprovable' murders committed by high functioning individuals.

Like I said, there are many recorded documents of LAPD at that time talking about the details of a 'suspect' who exactly matched Hodel, and they also suspect he murdered his secretary to cover up financial fraud at his practice. His daughter also accused him of sexual abuse. They electronically bugged his house and got a taped conversation of him saying: "Supposin' I did kill the Black Dahlia. They can't prove it now. They can't talk to my secretary anymore because she's dead. They thought there was something fishy. Anyway, now they may have figured it out. Killed her. Maybe I did kill my secretary." At one point the LAPD had gathered enough evidence of his involvement that they were actually going to place him under arrest before he fled the country. Please tell me again how he was 'never investigated', 'didn't fit the profile' and was not a 'violent man'.

Also, it was not an investigation into his daughter's sexual assault, it was a trial. He was acquitted yes, but sexual assault cases are notoriously difficult to prove and he was a highly influential Hollywood doctor in 1949, the political and social climate was quite a bit different. Now again, what is your response to the multiple recorded private conversations of many different officials in LAPD command at the time stating George Hodel was likely their culprit? For instance, the Chief of Detectives saying "The Black Dahlia Case was solved. He was a doctor who lived on Franklin Avenue in Hollywood"? How about DA Lt. stating "We know who the Black Dahlia killer was. He was a doctor but we didn't have enough to put him away"?

What saddens me is that a beautiful young girl was brutally murdered, her body mutilated and was put on a vulgar display and the killer went scot-free, probably inordinately proud of herself, while the girl, who once had dreams and ambitions, had hoped to find fame and love, became just an unsolved case. I hope one day some genius crime-solver in the police department or elsewhere will reopen the case and solve it even though the killer isn't around to be punished.

The pictures of the black dahlia are horrifying. I went to the LA Museum of Death and saw numerous photos and pictures of letters and the like on a wall specifically for Elizabeth. There were also many other items of serial killers like John Wayne Gacy and his clown shoes. Creepy stuff. A recommend if you're into this sorta stuff. Thoroughly go through everything and letters and such, it's fascinating.
