I never know how to feel about Spiral. Like there's a reason its called "Spiral: From the Book of Saw" but even with that distinction it still feels like it wants to be a Saw movie? However one thing I will 100% give this movie is the "homemade" feel of the traps. It's the only movie in the franchise that the traps still get me squeamish just thinking about them and I don't really know why lol. Anyways great video, 19 broken Chris Ramsey legs out of 5 :) also I highly recommend Tusk, it's not in my top 5 but I really enjoyed it

as a long time fan of the franchise i was kinda expecting the disappointment that i got while watching after jigsaw, which made it more manageable for me. it felt less like a saw movie for me and more just in the universe and i just could not get attached to the characters enough for the stand alone to work. compared to jigsaw and X, it just doesn’t even feel remotely similar. i kept thinking it almost had wannabe Seven vibes. i didnt hate it but it was just so meh. not having billy was also kinda unforgivable for me and was the point that i stopped watching as a saw movie i always love your videos man keep up the great work!

With the recency bias now worn off, Spiral has fallen quite a bit in my Saw ranking, but I nonetheless appreciate the shake-up it brought to the franchise with the things it tried to do, even if it wasn’t always successful. As genuinely great as Saw X was, the harsh reality is that we’ve likely got another film or two at best with Tobin Bell before he’s no longer with us, and while I know many fans are holding out hope for the return of Hoffman, Dr. Gordon or even Amanda, I personally feel that a series of anthology-style films similar to Spiral that follow new killers adapting the Jigsaw philosophy and methods to their own ends (perhaps discovered/learned through the Jigsaw Rules website established in Jigsaw) would be a much more interesting avenue for the franchise to explore and would open up all sorts of new possibilities.
@ripdalt3 ай бұрын
i like the idea of catching back up with gordon, or seeing everything he did behind the scenes more in his absence in saw 2-6, or building off some side characters we've met previously like eleanor, mallick, or detective tapp
@Acquilla73 ай бұрын
Yeah. Fact of the matter is, Tobin Bell's like 82 or 83 now. And while I'm sure he genuinely enjoys making these movies, considering he keeps coming back at his age, there's gonna be a point where eventually I'm sure he's gonna want or need to call it quits. And while my personal preference would be to have Dr. Gordon come back because Cary Elwes being sinister and chewing scenery is delightful, given he hasn't been in the last three, I don't see it happening. So an anthology would be fun, as long as they don't do any of the silly "I speak for the dead" nonsense like they tried to pull in Jigsaw. Also down for them keeping the more political bent like in Spiral and 6; dirty cops and insurance execs make way better trap victims rather than *checks notes* a bunch of people framed by said dirty cops, a grieving dad, and people with mental illnesses.
@SamuelMcAlpin-ft3uu3 ай бұрын
@@ripdalt Still waiting on my Detective Fisk solo movie too.
@SamuelMcAlpin-ft3uu3 ай бұрын
@@Acquilla7 It’s funny you should mention that, because part of the reason I’m so passionate about the anthology idea is because of an idea I’ve had for such a film where all of the victims are powerful city leaders/officials involved in a conspiracy surrounding a murder from 20 years ago. Bringing back Hoffman or Dr. Gordon is the route I feel they’ll ultimately go, given how well Saw X did and that Cary Elwes or Costas Mandylor could probably be enticed to come back by the producers dropping a truckload of money on their driveway, but I really hope to see some more Spiral-style films and am glad I’m not the only one interested in that.
@Acquilla73 ай бұрын
@@SamuelMcAlpin-ft3uu Yeah I could see that being fun! If it were me in charge and I knew I couldn't get Gordon, I'd go with basically a Jigsaw cult. Not apprentices, because the timeline has been tortured enough, but just people who got into Kramer's ideology after he died. That makes it easy to switch up antagonists, and if we wanted to keep the gore telenovela aspect would be easy to throw in some background drama between cultists for the fans who are into that.

@beau526527 күн бұрын
This is 100% the hardest one to rank for me (it’s 8th BTW), as it’s VERY detached from the main Saw series. I remember they were pushing at the time that it WAS suppose to be a sub-series, and it’s not bad looking at it that way. Not perfect or anything, but I perhaps admired it a TAD more than Jigsaw. A little comment though, on Rock insisting to put comedy in a Saw movie: Saw always had comedy. The first was probably the most “witty”, which probably came mostly from Whannel. The rest of the series has a lot of dark humor going forward merging into outright camp in VII. I’d saw Jigsaw in particular did a good job at bringing the Whannel-esque wit back. All Rock did with Spiral is add HIS comedy into a Saw, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but made me question how well he really knew Saw as a series when he injected himself in it. Bousman made the film as good as he could, but I think a script polish could have improved it. As it stands it’s a good flick, if a tad flawed.

that's a fair point for the comedy, i should've been more clear with what i wanted to say :)

One thing I feel you should know is Angie wasn’t lured into her trap by a message from Zeke, as the video states. It was actually a message from Marcus, his father, and basically what it means is he was captured by William before Angie and William used Marcus’ phone to lure her into the room. The rest of what you had to say I completely agree with. I have said for years that Spiral is a good film on its own, it is just not a good Saw film. To me it likely would have worked as a Se7en remake.

I wanted to like this movie so badly but I just can't bring myself to 😭 I think my biggest gripe is just...what is this movie trying to say? Cops are bad unless they're the main character? I think I would have preferred a plot twist that Shenk /wanted/ to be partners with Zeke initially, but saw that Zeke was just like every other cop on the force (maybe the scene where he takes a selfie with the drug dealers leg he broke would be that moment) and now he wants to test him too, to see if a "good" cop is really any better than a "bad" cop, or something along those lines. It just felt so lost with what, if anything, it wanted to say about the police that it ended up having the mildest take of "it's bad when cops shoot civilians or lie!". Between that and the random breaks for Rock to do comedy bits (the "my wife is fucking a yoga instructor" scene especially) I just could not get behind this one at all

idk how i had another saw dream and THEN woke up to a new dalt saw vid. this time it was held in an active volcano and was far more obstacle oriented (a la the stream trap from saw 6) can't wait for your opinions on saw x yippeee 🎉🎉🎉🎉

I had fun watching this movie, but it’s definitely not what I wanted nor expected from a stand-alone movie in this franchise. I did enjoy that it ended up being a “cop” movie, more than anything.

this one felt like all cop, whereas saw x was all traps. which, both can be fun

i swear after watching the garfield movie it feels werid knowing that garfield's father was also a cop that got involved with a serial killer then died (since sammuel L jackson plays both vic (garfields father) and marcus in this one)

I know people give this movie a lot of shit, and mostly understandable But personally, I liked it. It's a LOT better than Jigsaw but that's like saying a stubbed toe is better than a swift kick in the balls. Yeah, it's true but it still gonna hurt I do like that Shanks goes after those that are actually crooked, not "you jaywalked" or however the Kramer meme goes these days. That's what Saw X did well If they do more "Book of Saw" stuff, please make sure the victims actually are bad, not questionably so. Makes it way better
@ripdalt3 ай бұрын
it's a good concept, maybe potential for a miniseries/tv show with each episode being a new set of victims
@roonkolos3 ай бұрын
@ripdalt that don't sound too bad. Either way, I concept of Saw works best when all have good reason to be in these things. Like the cops in this movie. I get the idea but it still fell flat Still a guilty enjoyment

@ripdalt a commentary based off false narratives, and exploiting empathy perhaps. Just like I also hated the idea behind the commentary in 6, because quite frankly insurance companies need to be picky with who they cover or they'll go bankruptcy and be unable to help anyone.

Chris Rock has been too wealthy for too long and is too out of touch to write a Saw movie. Saw is the peoples horror. for someone who wanted to branch out of comedy he managed to make the entire film a run on joke.
