I know right? I remember when all of that was happening and it REALLY upset and made me so mad! I did what I was supposed to do and stayed home (even though I wasn't sick. I didn't want to risk it. I only went out for groceries, medication at the pharmacy and doctor's appointments. I haven't gone to any bars, restaurants, concerts, nothing like that) and still don't even though I'm triple vaxxed! I'm not taking any chances! I'm high risk due to health issues I have already! I think I already had it once (before it was announced it was a "thing" in the USA and Trump was dismissing it as "a democratic hoax") and there wasn't any tests made to the public yet but I was sick as hell for almost 2 months so I'm assuming that's what I had. I got it from my boyfriend who was working at a VA hospital (he's a retired disabled veteran who spent 18 years in the military). It still amazes me that people aren't taking this seriously! What is soooo problematic about her is every single time someone tries to hold her accountable for the awful things she does she just plays the trans card and says it because of that. Well no it's not. I'm sure she does get horrible people saying bad things to her cause she is trans but she uses that as an excuse to be horrible when that is not the issue. The issue is her being an awful person 90% of the time. If I see a comment in videos about her and they r saying things about her being a man, I never hesitate to call those people out. I am (rightly) an authoritative figure in their life bc we are in very different life stages…even around 20 year olds I can really feel the difference in maturity levels - which is correct! We are in different places developmentally! It concerns me deeply how much these tiktok-ers and influencers normalise hanging out with minors and teenagers when you’re 25+…like you’re still young but there’s a *huge* difference between 25 young and 16 young
@xowky42 жыл бұрын
Gotta say there is a difference between a 15yr old and an 18yr old (also as her aunt you were going to feel responsible for her regardless, I speak as an aunt). All of the people on this show are 18 or older. Havent seen the show but if she is closer to the 20+ members then that would be even less of a gap. I dont condone romantic relationships between 18yr olds and older adults, but I dont get where the problem is with friendships that could just as easily happen in a work or postsecondary environment. Her crush or whatever on Vinnis is/was inappropriate tho, I dont think theres anything wrong with being friends but it does fall on her to not cross the line.

I was literally cheering for Thomas to close the hype house because it was clearly weighing on him a lot. I actually felt really bad for Thomas once you met his dad and heard his backstory. Thomas came off as controlling and had a poor management style but also he's 20 and can you blame him based on what he had heard about his childhood. The most interesting part of the show in my opinion was that a lot of the people in the hype house had very dark family lives or nonexistent ones and clearly need some direction in terms of their career and personal life. I contrast that with the D'amelios and Addison Rae who's families are very very involved in their careers and serve (I think ) as an integral part of their success because of the support and security they provide so their child can succeed.

Honestly, it seems like kids play-acting how to run a business. Which is the case. Also, it seems like one of the main things against a content house is how it throws the work-life balance out of whack. I had to learn to not bring work with me home the hard way and I'm pretty sure it's the same for a lot of adults. So seeing kids go through that kinda makes me feel bad for them, because yeah, a lot them are awful but they're literally teens. Most of us were awful during that age. And none of us had the lens of social media to record of all that. Keep in mind I'm not excusing the truly heinous shit (like partying during the pandemic). They don't have a point of reference into how 'real' business works and how to separate a friendship from a work relationship.

When you were talking about the intros and having so many people, it occurs to me this is unique to most reality shows that we know “so much” about these people. Or are supposed to but I know who 2 of them are. For shows like RHOBH, bachelor, etc. we learn about the cast from the show. It makes the info about them so digestible. Here we have a lot of people who think every detail about themselves is important and they all think they’re super important so it makes it so overwhelming like you said. Unlike on bachelor or other shows the producers edit and curate the storylines so much cleaner and from scratch since most of them are unknown before the first episode airs.

I think Netflix literally missed "the hype" when The Hype House was actually "hyped" and still popular and thriving. Like you said, I think Netflix showed up thinking they were gonna be documenting some long term type show that would have a few seasons at least but from what I've seen in several videos about the show on KZbin, including this one, it was just one big shit show (especially the Larry, Nikita and Sienna situations). I honestly didn't know very much about The Hype House or any of it's members until this show came out and I seen people doing videos about it. It's normally not something I would watch but I watch all of your content because your videos are so good Hannah! You did great on this video! You saved me from watching hours of mediocre young Tik Tokers who make way too much money for what little they actually do! You mentioned how out of touch they are and it really seems that way when they are living in a literal content house and refusing or just not making any content! I had to look at the last 5 minutes of the show for myself, because that just seemed such an abrupt ending. And nope, it really just goes from people partying together, Thomas saying they're like a family to "6 months later" and half the people moving out. I don't know if the last few minutes can be used to represent the entire show, but during the ending--if not the whole thing--it sounds to me like there's a lot of forced conclusions/life lessons being thrown in. Like when they cut to Chase saying "we're all really close" but the best clip they could find to illustrate that is Larray telling Nikita "I just don't want to fight anymore". Might as well be "footage not found".

Agree and disagree re: percentage-based contracts always being bad. I’m a professional stand up comedian and my manage and agents take a percentage. My feeling about it is will they bring in enough to be worth it - in this case, will 90% of whatever I make being in a hype house be more than 100% of what I would make without it? Agree that the long term contracts are massively predatory, though, and another problem with signing away 10% of your income to a house like that is that managers/agents will also take a percentage on top of that, so after everyone gets their cut they’re “earning” significantly less than they do on paper.

I did actually feel bad for thomas cause it must be so frustrating feeling all this pressure to pay the bills and seemingly being the only one who cares and is actually willing to put the work in (also being super young). Like even if a tik tok takes a while to make, they each only have to do one a month! and they won’t even do that. Also about the contracts, I’m just not convinced someone that young would seriously think about something like that, despite how much they’re trying to be serious business people, especially since they’re all about the same age and (kind of) friends, I don’t know if he instead thought they would listen because it’s mutually beneficial for them to uphold their side, which is pretty rational thinking

I will never understand people being like 'they are 18 they don't know better' as an excuse for things like going out in the middle of a pandemic or even worse stuff. like I am the same age as they're and I don't see myself or people around me 'not knowing better'.
