I don't understand why people always say Dr. McDougall looks frail or ill. He is thin, but he has good color, little to no wrinkles and has no bags or undereye circles like so many "ill" people have. He is in his 70s! He is still working and traveling. He looks a lot better than the people know his age. We have become so conditioned to what people look like when they are fat and sick that we cannot recognize someone in good health!

"...McDougall reports that he often ate six to seven hotdogs, or four to five hamburgers a day. Three months into college it caught up with him. Source: www.drmcdougall.com/pdf/Veg_Times_McDougall_April_1986.pdf In March 2015, a viral infection affected Dr. McDougall's inner ears, caused him to totally lose his hearing, fall down and fracture his lower vertebrae, pelvis and left femur. It took about three months for his fractures to heal, and six months to be almost pain free. Source: www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2016nl/may/160500.htm He used to smoke 2 packets of cigarettes a day, he's very active in the sun and always had a tan (look at his old videos), which ages his skin. I did a "healthy" keto diet or so I thought for almost two years..it took me almost 6 to 8 months to lose the weight and while I was doing it I felt terrible. I barely had the energy to exercise - my melasma (a condition of the skin) got worse and I overall started feeling very badly. I watched the game changers with my husband almost a month ago and we decided right then and there we were going to change our way of living - and go no meat - no dairy. I have never been a fan of red meat anyway OR dairy so for me, it was such a no brainer. I have been doing this over a month - I have lost 7 pounds - I walk or run every day! I haven't had this kind of energy for years. I love to think of all the things I CAN EAT! I love grocery shopping and planning meals. This way is LIFE. I can tell my body is way happier and I just overall feel so much better. I cringe at what I used to tell people - and how much I used to watch Dr. Berg and Bergman and other "doctors" that said Keto was the way to go and to eat fat and run our bodies on fat...I absolutely know that is not true for me personally after literally doing it for a very long time! My body loves starches and I am not going back...

I am WFPB for 15 yrs , I like Mcdougall's lectures . But even he says that Inuits should return to old lifestyle and diet , it's natural and best way they can live - in nature . Or switch to WFPB diet , or plant based with little fish . Industrial society offered Inuits easy life and they are now in very bad condition , morbidly obese and sick . What I realized is that Inuits are old and original tribe , they all had blood type 0+ , they are superior in digesting fish and meat , fat , and resistant to heart problems modern man easily get . But animal food is not optimal for human race , even Inuits etc cannot deal perfectly with animal foods . Inuits lived in nature , complete nature , and living in nature is not toxic like living in big cities , not even close , cannot compare ! But even they do not live as long , nature is harsh , and eating ton of animal foods , even natural type like they ate before , is not optimal ! But their lives HAD more sense then lives of man living in industrial society , eats white bread and chicken , milk and working job that do not make him happy . Inuit lived life worth living , doesn't matter it was often short life , it was life in nature and he was fulfilled .

I'm a post op breast cancer patient. After treatment (I don't know why after) Kaiser Sacramento sent me to their survival clinic headed by former surgeon Dr. Earnie Bodie. At that 3 hour appointment I was told that a WFPB no added fat diet was the best way to prevent cancers return. That dairy probably caused my cancer and animal products caused my Type 2 diabetes. Then I was given info on how to make this life saving lifestyle mine. Which included a recommendation for The Starch Solution". I knew God was leading my treatment and recovery. And Doctor McDougal and his wife Mary have been doing their best to get this message out for so long. They have been a direct blessing to me. You see I am usually treated in another location all together. They don't have this clinic there. Thank you John and Mary. I promise you ill do my best to spread the word around me. Hugs! Ketogenic diets can be WFPB, as they simply mean a diet high enough in fat that they throw you into ketosis, which you can do by eating nuts, seeds, avocados, and some non-starchy leafy greens. It's the most effective treatment for certain brain disorders, like glioblastoma and specific types of epilepsy.
@julianaleo6316 жыл бұрын
I do understand that... but a lot of my friends are using that diet to lose weight. And from all that I have seen and read - that is not the healthiest way to go for weight loss? I don't know what WFPB means... but how do you know when enough is enough? What if you already have high cholesterol? or had a bypass surgery on your heart? (yeah...that part). I almost think that some folks will think this is a free ticket to eat as much meat as you want, with no repercussions later. And it's not like they are putting more vegetables in their diet. I've seen them eat... :-(

I'm not a arguing with whole food plant based crowd. I just go with what works for me. I suspect mixing starches and meats might be the problem. I have seen many very healthy vegans and many very healthy carnivores. I have not seen many very healthy meat and potato eaters. I think more studies need to be done on food combinations. So eat your carbs and I'll eat my meat and fat and we will all live happily ever after.

Look around online. Look at Nini Girl's channel on KZbin. Instead of cooking in oil, you just cook in water (or vegetable broth or sherry or white wine or vinegar). The first time I heard of this, I was skeptical that food cooked in water would taste good and went back to cooking with oil. I wish I hadn't. It's really not so hard once you get used to it. The bonus is that cleaning your kitchen becomes much easier.

Cut veggies ( not onions ) and put very little water in a pan add these veggies cover on medium heat . Within 5-7 mins your veggies will be cooked. Then add all the spices, salt and a dash of good quality oil. Mix and eat … the day you taste this you will never go back to regular cooking You can add spices while cooking but add oil onky in th e last . Don’t heat the oil.

What about issues with canidia? Starches cause yeast over growth. What about that? Also lectins? How about if you want to gain weight? So many unanswered questions.

I really love Dr. McDougall, even though I don't follow his diet anymore. I did not feel well, always bloated, later started losing my hair and my teeth got terrible. Maybe you think I was doing it wrong, I wasn't. Maybe the diet is great for people who are overweight or really sick, I don't know. i was and still am at a healthy weight, just got impressed by veganism like most of the people in my generation :).I am not on a ketogenic diet either, I try to eat a balanced diet of...well everything. I don't consume sugar and cook everything at home for me and my family. I just don't understand why everybody promotes extremes when it comes to dieting. What happened to everything in moderation (I don't include packaged crap when I say "everything")? I believe we are sick because we forgot or never learned how to cook and we rely on crap that supermarkets sell us. Not because we eat meat or starch for that matter. If everybody would cook their own food nobody would only eat fries and burgers or cakes. But I said I love Dr. McDougall, right? Well I do. He is right about a lot of things. I think his diet might be great for a short period if you need rapid intervention due to medical condition. But please, if you don't feel well don't stick to it. There is not one population that lives only on plants. It's all good, just stay away from extremes, be them the keto diet or the vegan diet. Sorry if my English is not perfect, I am not a native speaker. Stay healthy :)

Hi Angel Amy! Your English sounds great! I thought potatoes have a lot of carbs. Don't the carbs in potatoes spike blood sugar, then the blood sugar is changed into fat? That's what happens with me, so I wonder if a potato diet would not be good in my case. Do you know?
@NickBoston6 жыл бұрын
mwj5368 The healthiest people on the planet consume mainly starches. They are not fat. Carbs do not "make you fat." Your blood sugar is supposed to rise after you eat. Of course you will lose weight with potatoes. Due to the caloric density alone you would. Give it a shot. You will get full before you get fat.
@mwj53686 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nick. Just got my blood lab yesterday. Evening of July 24th I started my potato diet. I also boil white rice too. Still I gained 7lbs I'd lost on veggies only. Also my triglycerides shot up from 337 in May to now 535. My HDL also went down from 26 in May to now 21. My glucose was 86, so that went down from at times around 115 or 120. I did have some berries with my veggies, yet a very small amount.

Because a balanced diet may cause imbalances because of the randal cycle and things like that, also we are super predators, so most likely facultative carnivores

When on keto, i feel well and dont have aches and pains. When i eat carbs, i feel bloated, aches and pains are back, and i feel unwell. How can i ever be convinced carbs are good?

Not everything works for everyone. That is the only thing I can say with some confidence, after 20+ years of monkeying with my own diet, watching thousands of KZbin videos, reading thousands of blogs and comments, and listening to a couple of dozen audio books. It was driving me mad and I finally had to give up on chasing the "perfect" diet. Personally, I don't think one singular diet exists for everyone.
@yellowbird54115 жыл бұрын
High meat diets provide little fiber, and what fiber there is comes from the rest of the diet. When I eat meat, the colon slows down. I understand that a sluggish colon also has extra time to absorb more calories, nutrients and fat. It also increases the risk of colon cancer due to toxic build ups. I am guessing that the higher we eat on the food chain, the higher our risk for disease. Especially with our bad agricultural practices of fattening livestock, feeding them GMO corn and soybeans and worse practices.

My father's life would have been extended even though he had renal disease But, my mother and his doctor conspired to keep him on a renal diet that included animal meats , eggs, and proteins. If only they listened to the family vegan. I would have found a vegan doctor and nutritionist who could have helped

He's talking about natural sugar from starches in fruit and veggies, not processed sugars, which is only partial burned. The rest is stored as fat.

Saying "Eskimo" is a proper term, even though it's offensive to the people it refers to, is really showing the white colonist mindset. The people who wrote the history books were white colonists who abused the Inuit and stole their land, and you think it's a proper term because that's what they used? It costs nothing to show people the respect and equality they deserve.

My health plummeted with this diet. I almost died. Brought meat back and came back to life. This is not human diet. Plant food wasn't available until the last 10 thousand years. Our ancestors, for millions of years were hunters and in small seasonal ways, gatherers. Any extreme change in diet feels good, but long term is the real test.
