as a Japanese-American, I feel like so many -don recipes are famous outside of Japan, and butadon never gets any love - thank you for putting the spotlight on it!!! It's definitely one of my favorites (esp with kurobuta!)

If you start talking about -don recipes here in the Netherlands I doubt anyone will know what you're on about. 😜Personally I ran into oyakodon a few years ago and it's my favorite rice dish (together with Indonesian egg fried rice). I'm definitely gonna give this one a go in the near future, it looks delicious!

My grown daughters have been hanging out at my house a lot lately, one has a new baby and wants my help, and the other works from home several days a week so she comes over too to work from here. Hi Aaron! Great recipe once again, I can't wait to try it! How thick are the pork belly slices?
@meat_loves_wasabi Жыл бұрын
Popular Tokyo restaurant Buta Daikagu recommends pan searing the pork belly first.. remove the pork from the pan and remove the excess pork belly oil before combining the seared pork belly with their Butadon sauce back in the pan and reduce the sauce until thickens…. I guess this step helps to reduce the gamey flavour of the pork

Hey, Aaron and Claire! Can I use 'salted sake for cooking' for this recipe? You guys are inspiring, and as always... THANK YOU! 🙏🏽💕
@OleanderStarr Жыл бұрын
Yes you can! I heard somewhere that the difference between cooking sake and drinking sake is that salt is added so an alcohol tax can’t be added and makes it more affordable to use for cooking. Think of it like using a $3 bottle of wine to make a ragu instead of having to use a $30 bottle.

Hi Aaron! How do you recommend cooking in batches? Do you sear them all first then coat in sauce? Or sear and coat, then put a new batch of pork belly in to sear and coat (straight in the remaining sauce)? Thank you! I’ve been going through your cookbook and it’s amazing!
@AaronandClaire Жыл бұрын
Hi, Glory! The best to do it is cook them all at once in 2 separate pans because as it cools down, the pork can become and hard. But if you have only two options above, I would suggest the first method. Sear them all first and then coat in sauce. Hope you enjoy it~! 😁👍
@glory9077 Жыл бұрын
