Why wouldn't you use something like LUKS or Veracrypt on a traditional flash drive?

hey wonder what you do for backups with the samsung bar. I am considering carrying a USB on my keychain after seeing you do this.

The Samsung BAR is a great USB device. Could you share the name or a link to the silicone cover you're using? Super neat.

Would you recommend this for cold storage? E.g. storing encryption keys in a locked safe over a long period (years).
@Adaminkton
@Adaminkton 3 ай бұрын
flash drives are only guaranteed to store data for a year without being connected to power from to time. So if you stored data on a usb or ssd drive for a couple of years, it might get corrupted or entirely deleted.

Hey Sun, over the past year or so I have become more skeptical regarding Apple and their privacy claims, what are your opinions on iOS vs Android in this aspect? Ofcourse not all Android roms are built the same, but im most curious in common everyday brands such as Samsung, Google etc.

Feel you… the only Android-based OS I trust is GrapheneOS. That said, depends on use case… trade-offs. Might create episode on topic.
@homie4235

Common consensus seems to be GrapheneOS is the best rom for security on Android, they only support pixel phones though.

Haven’t watched yet but what happened to the market for keychain USB drives? I used to have a tiny metal Kingston drive that looked awesome and was super convenient. Are drives small enough for a keychain just not useful or reliable?

What about the Apricorn ones that Charles Hodgkinson showed. There are many that have security elements. If it so great explain why you will still not put your seed phrase on it:

Or you can boot distros to ram and eject the USB stick... You are then sure that nothing can be written on the USB stick...

If you wan to test you just have to add ''toram'' before booting at the grub screen (type ''e'' to edit kernel boot options)

Have you verified the manufacturer’s claimed transfer speeds? They seem believable, but sometimes the marketing claims are overzealous.

how is this more secure than my veracrypt encrypted flash drive? i use 512 bit encryption with many tens of thousands of hashing iterations.
@vikramvishnou9785
@vikramvishnou9785 Жыл бұрын
As mentioned in the video, if you have a key logger on your computer your 512 bit encryption is useless

someone installing a key logger into my OS and then breaking into my house and stealing my USB is not a threat model I'm planning for. My data is safer than Sun's, I can guarantee that.

@@uber354 for most use cases veracrypt is very secure. But devices like these are for the extremes. Some people also just find entering a pin more convenient. I’ll stick with the affordable option, but I still see the utility in these types of devices.

Virgin iStorage datAshur vs gigachad free usb you found 10 years ago + veracrypt. In all seriousness though all this device does is tells the attacker that your password is all numbers. Youd be putting all your faith in those security chips to not allow someone to bruteforce it which is something i just wouldnt trust if whatever i was storing was so important id consider veracrypt with a stong 20 odd character password not good enough.
