Lol that's definitely one way to sum up how American movies and TV/entertainment media/ portray gender! Our boys are raised to inspire to be the best highschool football jock, to get all the ladies. Then they finish highschool, turn 18, kicked out of the house to fend for themselves and **SURPRISE!** actually physical jobs have the lowest salaries lol! and when your manly body wears out? Well, thanks to modern medicine, you actually live like, 40 years more after your body starts giving out! So yeah, actually you were supposed to ignore everything society and your family told you and do well in school, cuz the nerd is now on top. But hey, have fun, be the most manly man out there! (But actually don't get violent with anyone or else you're going to jail.) 🤷 In the real world, imagine how would any of these male characters actually fair in real life, after highschool. Man, boys can just have some of the worst role models in media...it's really bad.

The problem is that good stories tend to be more specialised so have a more niche audience, while things like this are generic and manipulative so appeal to a mass range of people. So they aren't actually good, or better than other stories, even in the minds of people who watch it, it's just it appeals to to such a wide audience that as the current metric of "popular" on Netflix, and kind of in general, is how many people watch it, generic wide reaching stuff gets viewed as more popular.

Lee: Creates a weird and toxic list of friend rules that Elle has to follow or else she’s the worst friend in the world guilt trip guilt trip guilt trip guilt tr- Warren: Sexually harasses Elle Principle: Punishes Elle for being sexually harassed (though I’ll give him a pass because that’s the most realistic part of the movie.) Butt-grabber guy: Grabs Elle’s butt just because her skirt is a little shorter than usual.

She calls lee controlling over her love life when Noah would willing hospitalize anyone who dares like her who she wants to date. Everybody sucks in this movie over all.

The worst part is the effect it has on young girls of our generation who would think that these toxic relationships are okay as long as the guy is hot and rich. I myself went through this phase at one point, but ended up maturing and realizing that this is wrong. Sadly, the next batch of young teens are going to go through the same mindset and some may never even change and accept this sort of atrocious behaviour. And the cycle would go on.
@OltskuMP4 жыл бұрын
So you think some girls are going to date some weirdos who they hate just because they saw that happen in a stupid movie? Dude the movie sucks but this is just stupid. @@OltskuMP GTA isn't a good comparison because it doesn't present murder as something sexy or romantic. (like I get that it's meant to be fun, but in the end you're still being chased down by cops for every crime you commit.) the Kissing Booth presents Noah as a sexy forbidden love, when really he's a teenager with anger management problems and a controlling streak. young girls romanticizing toxic behavior isn't uncommon at all. I went through the same phase when I was 10-12 before I learned to separate fiction from reality, but not everyone fully gets there in time. not everyone takes life advice from movies as simply as "oh I should SEEK OUT guys who act exactly like Noah," either. I think that the more often that they're shown that it's "normal" by movies like the Kissing Booth, the more likely young girls are to accept certain toxic behavior from potential partners. when I say young girls, I mean like 10-14, prime creeping age for older men- bc they're just starting to come into & learn about their sexuality and don't know about relationships yet. a lot of what they learn is from media, which is why the Kissing Booth could be a dangerous influence. I think it's more subconscious if that makes sense? KennieJD's videos on the Kissing Booth & Twilight explain this really well if you're curious, bc Twilight had young girls and even adult women (see 50 shades of gray) fooled for YEARS. Idrk whether the Kissing Booth is having a similar effect as Twilight or if kids are ripping on it as much as we are, but it's still not good material to have targeted at a very vulnerable audience. edited for clarity
@OltskuMP4 жыл бұрын
@@iizouu I know gta isn't a good comparison. There are better ones out there. I'm just tired and can't think of any rn. I think if you are dumb enough to not separate fiction from reality then you shouldn't watch Netflix at all (other than maybe the children's version :D). Also I don't think this is a kids movie anyway so being young isn't an excuse either.
