It's honestly impressive how this movie took one of the most important episodes of the series, when they find the Earthbenders being taken by the Fire Nation and they're taken to a METAL ship in the middle of the ocean [which is designed to break their spirits since they're nowhere near their element] and just completely and utterly missed the meaning of it. This is the episode that truly shows you how spirit-breaking and demoralizing the Fire Nation can be and, in this movie, they're literally just under house arrest pretty much and no one cared to fight back because of reasons.

Night Shyamalan to Indie Movies Online: "You're coming at me, the one Asian filmmaker who has the right to cast anybody I want, and I'm casting this entire movie in this color blind way where everyone is represented. I even had one section of the Earth kingdom as African American, which obviously isn't in the show, but I wanted to represent them, too! And I fought like crazy to have the pronunciation of the names to go back to the Asian pronunciation. So you say 'Ahng' instead of 'Aaang' because it's correct. It's not 'I-rack,' it's 'ee-Rock.' I'm literally fighting for all this. And who's getting blamed? ME! This is incredible. And so it's infuriating, this stigmatization, that the first word about the most culturally-diverse movie of all time is this accusation. And here's the irony of it, this has nothing to do with the studio system. I had complete say in casting. So if you need to point the racist finger, point it at me, and if it doesn't stick, then be quiet."

Jimmy Sampson Wait, so you gotta have straight hair for it to be immaculate and groomed? Cool, if it's exclusive to the character and from her pics it looks like it is but this is kinda suspect. Like what if they took some liberties and made it "perfect" but curly? Her hair isn't what I would consider wavy even. It's just kinda doing it's thing. I don't know what point straightening it would have. Throw a comb through it sure.

THEN the iconic animation opening, opening with credits, some quick animated flash scenes of the Tyranical Fire nation attacking and dominating all the other Kingdoms, now we are all caught up and can proceed with the current story. To be fair, the pronunciation of "Yin and Yang" was correct. Something the showrunners did in TLA, and which Shyamalan went on record as saying he wanted to avoid, was Americanizing the pronunciations of words to make them more easily digestible for a Western audience. He was hoping to make it sound more authentic. Of course they then went and made the Inuit-inspired Water Tribe white and the traditionally-pale and pseudo-Japanese Fire Nation Indian, so I guess authenticity wasn't that fucking important.

Chronos it’s because of two things. 1) the architecture and 2) the style of governing. They all speak the same language but fire is based on Japan. Even I noticed this. Hell they actually look Japanese. (Which is really hard to do and is about the only one to actually make their appearance asain not just a white person in Asia). Also some dark skinned ppl do have blue eyes. So it’s possible that they used that for their appearance. Also they bend water. Being technical isn’t exactly a strong point with the show. But they are based on Inuit culture. Specifically those from Canada i believe. So it actually fits. The reason they all speak Chinese is because it was most likely easier for all four nations to speak the same language than making four different languages and deal with language barriers.

I don't understand how they could make a movie this bad when they had experienced directors, editors, choreographers & musicians. It sounds like a middle school play, where all the adults took the budget to go do cokē.

With M. Night Shyamalan directing it it's not all that surprising. From what I remember, he didn't even watch the show. He had no passion for the project, and this movie really shows that
@JC-lb3df4 жыл бұрын
I swear M Night is one of the oddest directors ever He made amazing films like The Sixth Sense and Split(unbreakable if you see it as amazing) Mediocre films like Glass and Unbreakable Then has garbage films like The Happening and this one
@kickass21174 жыл бұрын
@@TheMaxORyan According to an interview with the co-creators in SFX magazine, Shyamalan came across Avatar: The Last Airbender when his daughter wanted to be Katara for Halloween. Intrigued, Shyamalan researched and watched the series with his family. "Once I saw the amazing world that Mike and Bryan created, I knew it would make a great feature film." -Source: Wikipedia

I said this before in this comment section, and I'll say it again: M. Night has a tendency of making his cast and crew of his movies unintentionally awkward, whether it's the performances or the quality of the film itself.

@Kayanne884 жыл бұрын
F_F_F_ yea I totally get that. And it makes sense knowing the avatar state is what took over basically. But the movie showed Aang being the one in control and then using the avatar state to amplify his abilities. So it makes sense that Aang would only use a huge wave. I like both ways and how they showcase what would happen depending on who is in control.

CatEyeQueen But it totally ruins the crux of Book 2 and 3 because he’s not supposed to have mastered the Avatar State yet. It’s literally the essential element of the rest of the story. His sacrifice in Crossroads of Destiny, especially.

How could you possibly skip your reaction to the best scene in the movie?! the 6 person choreographed rock floaty moment deserves to be reacted to in every video about this god awful movie Also fairly sure that M. Apparently the scene with Zhao and Ozai in the throne room was shot inside a school gymnasium because they spent the majority of the production budget on the northern and southern water tribes. You can tell by the obvious basketball lines on the shiny wooden floor.

Two things I don’t hate about this movie: how they adapted aang’s tattoos, because I’m not sure the blue lines would have translated well to reality, and the fact that some of the firebenders were bowing alongside the waterbenders after aang went into the avatar state. Shame the rest was... bad

It's weird because that one scene portrayed Ozai like he was in the show, with his face never shown to make him more intimidating. This whole film would've been better if he was like that this whole way through

@@hilosky I don't think it was to make him more intimidating, it was to make him mysterious. Similar to how the Harry Potter books only had Voldemort appearing as an echo or a manifestation until he finally made a direct appearance in the fourth book. Though must admit that I was a little disappointed how underdeveloped Ozai was. Had they fleshed out more of his personality and his motive (beyond "for glory and because Sozin said we're the best"), his defeat would've had more impact.
