In all honesty, I'm on Lin's side with the sybling rivalry. Su should have been a bigger person and apologized to her sister, but instead she says, "I let it go years ago and apologized to mom already". There's no discussion of how Su treated Lin nor how Su gave Lin a lifelong scar. They both had something to apologize for, but Su treats it like Lin was a control freak, even after having stated she herself (Su) had grown up and was a different person now. Su really hasn't learned a thing - she just wants a clean slate because time has passed. Lin really deserved an apology directly.

I actually lost a sibling who left 16 years ago, because of family issues. When you've lost someone, you don't give a damn about the little details. I also left my family for a time, feeling like Lin. In the end, I didn't get the apology I wanted that made me leave in the first place. But I grew emotionally, and inwardly. And realized the small things didn't matter, and I had hurt them too. And I didn't apologize for all the tiny little things either, and they didn't ask it of me. We did apologize, but we didn't scrutinize every detail, asking each tiny afront to be forgiven. So if you can't understand this, you're the one who's still holding on to grudges, and hurting yourself, but blaming another for your own suffering. Good luck.

Very noticeable that Su says lots of bad stuff about Lin and Lin not about Su. While Lin would have reason to and Su not. I agree with Lin that Su didn't change much. She still agrees that a known criminal shouldn't be in prison as well saying she was already over their problems while never actually having said sorry. Feels more like she still thinks that doing bad things is okay as long as the person that did those things think they're changed instead of you know consequentions for your actions and admitting fault and the like.

This Is one of my favorite episodes for so many reasons I loved to see Lin work through her trauma. I loved to see Toph as a less than perfect mother. That family's depiction Is one of the most realistic I think. I've read that Toph actually couldn't have Su in jail because she would be in too much danger, being surrounded of people imprisoned by her, but even if It was just because she couldn't apply the same morals to her daughter or she couldn't damage her image, i would understand It, and It would seem very fitting for someone like her. Parents are humans too, after all. I love Lin and Korra's relationship, and I do think It Is heavily influenced by Lin internally associating Korra with Su, but also herself being like Korra in some ways, in how Stern they are, for example. This was the episode that actually Made me love Mako and Bolin's relationship, strangely enough, because even if It was just cómic relief, Bolin's reaction to the sisters' fight feels SO telling. Before I thought they should've had More trouble when the triangle with Korra happened, but after watching this, I definitely can see why they didn't. They knew problems were normal and fighting could even be necessary sometimes, and their relationship was so much More than that. Finally, because I always write bibles in these comments, just a thought about why metalbending seems to come Easy to Korra (besides being the Avatar, of course): in the comics it's said that metalbending it's related to the user's strongest emotions, and we know our girl Is all about strong emotions. Maybe that's why Bolin struggles More with it, him being so chill most of the time
@no1guy8253 жыл бұрын
I would almost expect Lin to be the better fighter....since she's practically in combat daily....year after year. Even if Suyin is the more creative, and possibly more in-tune metalbender....her skills as a fighter would demand her to train constantly without an active threat. We don't really see them fight each other often, and Lin is seemingly impaired....but the fact that Suyin is this proficient, again....means she essentially has to fabricate training scenarios or spar to be this good...whereas Lin does it everyday against the real deal....albeit against fairly low-level fighters...with the occasional world-level threat.

@@6agenthawk I think you are absolutely right that Lin could have choosen to leave at any point in her life, however this realization would have taken at extraordinary level of introspection that would have been difficult to achieve given the environment that she grew up. If you think about it, every single one of the children of the team Avatar grew with a self imposed sentiment of duty, trying to live up to their parents legacy. Bumi and Lin took on the roles as protectors, Tenzin and (spoilers) Izumi were tasked to lead their people, and Kya and Suyin were the ones who over-corrected in the opposite direction. Even though I think Toph wouldn’t mind if Lin would have left the police force, I believe Lin truly felt that she was fulfilling her duty as Toph’s daughter, and therefore would have trouble leaving.

Su Yin did care what her mother thought.. That's why she acted out.
@Sephiroth7663 жыл бұрын
I think the main thing for Lin was that while she resents her sister for how she acted in the past, she feels jealous because Su despite how she was became more successful than Lin, owns a community, a palace. Therefore Lin feels like she did in the flashback. she can do what she wants without consequences. That is how she felt, Lin did everything by the book, yet her rebellious sister is who became more successful than her. However she needed personal growth because people can change and probably her attitude is why she is in the same spot she is now.
@gemelwalters29423 жыл бұрын
it's not about jealousy, both of them were a disappointment to Top and Lin hardly comes off as someone who cares about wealth. It's as simple as an apology which even in this episode Su never gave. This episode demonstrates that she hasn't really changed and sometimes people won't change so you just have to move on from them. That's why Lin's reaction to Su offering her a home there was no thank you, your my sister and I love you but things are best as they are. If you ruined your family and gave your sister a permanent scar, the least you can do is apologize but Su isn't accustomed to accountability and Lin knows this.
