that dog should have her own snow fighting company ... she will eat all the snow she can catch and crush all she can roll in ... cost .. 2 large bones for each 2 feet of driveway and a warm bowl of beef broth half way through and at the end ... ;) ... call the company... The Snow Muncher

I put a hand pump in my cabin about 20 years ago. I moved the kitchen counter, drilled a hole in the floor and pushed a sandpoint with a sledgehammer. Took a lot of blows to reach 21 feet (the max it could pump), but well worth the effort. I now have a hand pump on my kitchen counter and have water all year round, and don't need to haul it. In winter I fill all my pots and then open the flapper valve and let the water go back down below the frost level. I'm usually good for 2-3 days and then reprime the pump and fill the pots again. In summer I leave it primed and ready. I hate hauling water, especially in winter! Love that chisel!!

You may have to suck it up and look into having a well drilled next or near to the cabin. You can use a manual pump right in your kitchen. Not inexpensive to have it done, but it may be worth it for the long run.

This video really did star Cali :D Snow angels, chasing snow, wondering what'n heck you are doing with that bucket, getting some good petting, just being so in the moment and joyful! You could have been braiding shoelaces and I would have given this 1mil stars and thumbs up just for Cali :D And I loved when you said, "Let's go for a walk," and up she jumps and off she's ready to go, looks back and sees you putting the cover on the chisel, and you can just hear her thinking, "Oh, I forgot, Daddy always has to do something before the walk actually starts." Lovingly thought. You have such a special pup there. Love and prayers to the whole family:)

Good to see you back in the groove, SJ. About that water pump... Consider using a windmill to pump water into a decent-sized cistern by your house. Depending on the design, it could double as a power source for charging batteries, but you will most likely need a separate with mill for that, which spins faster.

I would build my home myself and live comfortably in the tranquil northern woods , although most of any winnings would be passed on to my sons . I've been looking through the comments about a well. I seem to recall Shawn saying the ground around the cabin is solid rock and so a well is out of the picture. Another comment mentioned a windmill pump. Here in Australia in arid areas large metal windmills were used for the last 100 years to pump water for sheep and cattle. I haven't noticed many in recent years but then I dont travel in those ares much anymore. I do remember them being somewhat noisy though when up close. Best wishes to you, your wife and your Golden friend. My Golden Retriever is 13 years old and slowing down as well as having bad night vision (I take her out with a torch for her to take a leak before going to bed)

Last year I put in a ram pump. It sort of worked but I needed it to pump about 50 feet further than it could (maybe 150 feet rise). Then anyway by late July the little stream I was using dried up. Not enough drop. Now we use rainwater collected by eavestrough and occasionally cistern fill up using a Honda firehouse 3” hose.

I watch another channel where they installed a couple of giant cisterns and channel rain water from the roof. They aren't much to look at, but seem to work. Good luck with your water project

Hey Shawn, everything good here since I moved off grid. Expanding my flock and finished building my greenhouse. Yes, ram pump off grid gold. My father told me to build one, I watched a few videos and purchased a book to further educate myself and has lots of plans for building. Mine will have to be a bit tall I will have to travel 100ft up my spring here on the mountain top, then another 1000ft to me. Good thing spring starts up here VS the bottom! Hope you figure out what you can do. Someone said a well, you can do that your self, sounds like the better option. Mean time still harvesting rain water and been working great here in KY. I know it's quite expensive but have you considered or is there a good possibility for drilling a well and getting to "good water" to make living a bit more comfortable & easy. You and your wife are not getting any younger and it makes sense to plan for a more sustainable life style for the Older Years too, so you can live off the land for as long as possible and then leave it to your next generations for their success too. Just a thought.

Put a hand pump on your well by the road to fill a tank, pipe from that till you have a good 4 foot plus drop, then set your ram pump there. If you set it up right, you can probably just let it run dry after use so the pipes go empty and don't freeze.

what you need is a solar power screw pump. It is like a tower and the weight of the water in the tank pressurizes the line and the water will run uphill.
