As for the Hull goal, they modified the rule halfway through the ‘98-‘99 season. If the attacking player maintains possession of the puck, the goal is allowed. This was because during the season, players were carrying the puck all the way to the net on empty net goals late in the game only to be called back. Watch Hull’s goal closely. He collects his own rebound, kick passes it to himself, and scores. I know it’s a tough way to lose, Sabres fans, but that’s life. It was a good goal.

Honestly, I'm surprised not to see Anaheim-Edmonton Game 5 on here. The third Anaheim goal, scored by Rickard Rakell, is still hotly contested because Kesler had Cam Talbot's pad trapped under him after being shoved to the ice by Darnell Nurse on top of Talbot, and the accusation is that Kesler prevented Talbot from closing his legs fast enough to stop the puck. I'm an Anaheim fan, so I naturally am biased here, but I think it's a good goal, since Kesler is kinda trapped between Talbot and Nurse and can't move (though he ain't making much of an effort to move, it should be pointed out). That, and Talbot's leg went down, not inward, to try and stop the puck, and he was just slow to it.

When it came to the ‘93 illegal stick, it was such a rare call, and nearly impossible to tell whether it was illegal or not in those days... if a challenge was wrong, the challenging team got a bench minor penalty, which would have killed the Habs. McSorley would claim that it came out of the factory that way, and that he even played another game that series with the same stick because he knew they wouldn’t call it again. How did the Habs know? Many say they had Montreal Forum employees, or Habs employees secretly measure sticks in the arena, or wheel the Kings stick rack into the Habs locker room and tell the police/security to “look the other way.” It’s he said she said at this point, but due to enough Cup finals since then with a Canadien team losing, it definitely makes people think “curse.”

I don't blame the refs for missing Gelinas' goal in the 2004 finals. None of the Flames reacted as if the puck went in, and it took several replays for anyone else to see that the puck was in. The problem was how the NHL tried to justify the officials' "call" after the fact. The truth is the officials didn't make any call, meaning they never waived off a goal; they just let the play continue. If the league had just said, "The officials didn't see the puck cross the line", everyone could have accepted that. Instead, the NHL tried to prove that the puck didn't go in the net. Imagine if the officials had called it a goal. Would the league have come out the next day and said the refs were wrong, that the puck never crossed the line, and that the goal was all an optical illusion?
@lordrevanz164 жыл бұрын
The officiating in the 2019 playoffs was truly atrocious, especially in the finals. That's only made worse by Berube being able to influence the officials with his comments after game 3, which were outright lies. St Louis was one of the more penalized teams in the playoffs, yet he falsely claimed they were the least penalized team and accused the refs of being biased, despite St Louis having more powerplays in that game. From then on there were several non calls against St Louis every game, which took away Boston's primary way of scoring, completely changing the dynamic of the series.

Will say this again, every time this is brought up: The Refs had to go with the evidence and info they had at the time. There was no conclusive proof to show that puck had crossed the line -- and even the later computer reconstruction by the network showed it -- so the Refs had to make the call the way they did. Believe me, I get how much it hurts for Flames fans, as you only have to look at the 1999 Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. St. Louis Rams in the NFC Divisional game to understand it (a blown call there robbed the Bucs of a trip to the Super Bowl). But, unfortunately there's no precedent in pro sports for a reversal of a call AFTER the game is over and done. All of the "could'a/should'a/would'a" talk doesn't change the fact or the call on the ice at that time. The call was "no goal". Flames fans need to take a book from us Bucs fans: let it go, drop it and move on.

It's called the Parallax effect and you can test it out at home yourself with a piece of paper and a puck. If more people were aware of it at the time it wouldn't be so controversial imo. ABC did a good job of showing how angles can be deceiving and the fact that an overhead angle isn't used despite the fact one exists, and the fact that nobody on the ice reacted to it, should tell you all you need to know tbh. Oh also, that call in the Dallas TBL game was totally legit. They flames were furthered screwed when the game six winning goal was scored in spite of an obvious tripping penalty along the boards and then late in game 7 Oleg Saprykin is charged with a tripping penalty while face down on the ice examining ice crystals on which Tampa Bay scored.

Neither would Preds fans. The NHL gifted Pittsburgh that Stanley Cup, I am not even a Preds fan but the amount of terrible calls in favour of the Penguins is amazing

It was a GOAL. the fake digital video was crap. Calgary won the cup but Beitmen (pretty sure I spelt that wrong but I don’t care) knew the lock out was a for sure thing. Needed an American team to win to keep the views in the southern states happy. Arizona, Florida and Tampa were struggling to fill seats. But that Stanley cup win that year by Tampa helped keep the panthers in Florida.

How about the extremely biased officiating in 2009 that lead to the Penguins winning the cup.

93 Leafs still crying the blues over the Gretzky high stick costing them the series. You still have a game 7 at home after this. You chose to lose that game which was a really strange decision to say the least. Probably should of just won the damn game instead as that was the closest you've been to a Cup in 55 years. You didn't/haven't even made the finals ! Pathetic ! You also have LITERALLY one division championship since Hitler annexed Austria. You're the Cleveland Browns of hockey, Toronto.

no goal for calgary it cant hit your skate or hands and go in
@GingerZombie293 жыл бұрын
Depends if you kick it or hit it with your hand, or it just hits you and ends up in the net. Hard to say. Gelinas was pulling the brakes and the puck hit him. There's no distinct kicking motion. Tough one to call. At least, that's what I think.
