This cased gave me chills. I wrote a 16 page essay about this case when I was in middle school and I am still so curious about this. When people were reportedly seeing them around town, that gave me even more chills. I can't imagine the pain that the parents felt. I personally think that the fire was not an accident. I may just be crazy but the facts 1. the kids were missing 2. The cars didn't work 3. The ladder was missing 4. They weren't in the usual spot 5. The bodies were never found 6. Nobody could or didn't reach the FD..... it really odd for me. I live a 3 minute walk away from a fire station and from what I remember, they didn't live that far away either. I still stay up sometimes reading it almost 5 years later.

About 14 years ago I went on the worst call of my career. It was for four children under the age of 8 that were trapped in a house fire. The mother and 13 year old girl got out but all the younger kids died in their room. Putting those babies into black body bags to take up to the crime lab was the hardest thing I've had to do and to this day I still think about them. @@sarahgump8225 they're definitely out there somewhere and saddens me as well that the parents never got any answers. They're Ash. The remains would have fallen into the basement before the house came down. After days in what is essentially a fire pit the chances of anything remaining would be small. If anything survived it would be teeth. And an undermanned firedepartment doing a cursory search of a pit of ashes that was the basement after several days wouldn't find anything. The vans not starting, this could simply be down to the cold. The missing ladder, could have simply just not been out away after use. Even the fire. One kid stated they saw it start around the junction box and phone line in the study. Hearing a thump onnthe roof... well I'm currently sitting in a cabin listening to the ravens dancing about on the roof

I think they might’ve… children’s bones have a lower concentration of inorganic material (calcium phosphate crystals) that usually make bones as strong and sturdy as we know them to be. This lower concentration makes kids bones more flexible and cartilaginous, making them more capable of being fully cremated in a hot enough house fire.

I lived in Harrison and Braxton counties for about 10 yrs but grew up around the corner from where pretty boy Floyd died and Gretchen's Locke. Most of our unsolved cases are less than 20 yrs old in my home county and are basically murder cover ups. In big towns in WV you don't really get the creepy factor as much as less populated woodsy areas. Some places you just feel like you aren't alone or you are being followed. There are a few places in WV I would never go alone in the dark, but here in columbiana county oh I've sat in similar places no issue. WV is definitely a whole other deal from most places.

I'll throw my 2 cents in. Do to the war pretty much all of his prime fireman were drafted or volunteered for the war effort. Being West Virginia in 1943, rounding up the remaining firemen ment going door to door by foot, horse, or car depending on how much gas was rationed. The remaining men in town were probably to old, disabled, or had full time jobs supporting the war effort. In a group of volunteers, their might have only been one person physically capable of driving the fire engine, this is pre-power steering and automatic transmission. Large vehicles at this time required a lot physical capability to safety operate, and the War Department probably had 98% of men from that area all over the globe. So yes, the response from the fire department was almost comidicly awful in comparison to a modern full/volly department, but they were working with what they had, which wasn't much due to the war.

It seems more likely it references a zip code in Palermo, Sicily. It fits with the theory that they were taken by the mob and sent to different families. Louis would be around 32 at the time and he looks younger in the photo to me suggesting that it was taken awhile before being sent. My theory is that different people were tasked with facilitating the placement of each kid one was assigned 'lil boy 5', and placed with a family in Palermo. Years passed and they get a picture of the boy fully grown from the adopting family and they hold on to it for years until after feeling remorse want to offer some reassurance and forward the picture with the only lead available - the zip code where he was placed.

One thing I have wondered more recently is...if the 5 survived and were adopted out or something, are there any kids or grandkids from the 4 (5) kids who made it out of the house with their parents that could try DNA searches? That type of thing has come a long way, it could be easy enough to get DNA to run and see if any unknown close relatives are in the states that could potentially be the kids/grandkids of the missing 5.

Love that you did this story! I grew up 15 min from Fayetteville. I had several relatives that grew up & lived there most of their lives. I can remember hearing this tragic story when I was little and we were driving by the old homestead. I can still hear my dad telling me that pictures of the kids were all over this long wall running along the road coming up on the old place. I can hear him & the sadness in his voice talking about these missing children. Explaining how suspicious it was when after the house burned, there were either pig or cow lovers or kidneys found in the ashes. As if someone the them in the fire knowing they would likely not fully burn & would be found by fire inspectors. It was widely speculated that it was done in an attempt to throw everyone off & make it seem as if the missing children had been tragically lost, dying in the fire. But it was quickly, & easily discovered that the organs found were from an animal. The absence of any burned skeletal remains surrounding or protecting any organs that would have been found.. bc that's the only way the organs would not burn up. They would be damaged, but the fire wouldn't be hot enough to fully incinerate the whole body, bones, organs & all. It just didn't make sense. The whole county looked for those kids for so long. It's truly a tragic piece of history that has continued to be questioned, & causes heartache still today. I love thee stories you cover. This being such a close hitting one, really is special. Thank you for pairing your amazing, thorough, & ever empathetic perspective & voice to this horrible tragedy. Love you so so big! 💜🖤💜 *Edit* You really did a great job covering this story Kris. Fantastic episode, Kris! It evokes the haunting memory of the Beaumont children's 1966 disappearance from Glenelg, which is my hometown in Australia. Your work is truly commendable. Continue the excellent job and remember to stay safe and well. 👌👍
@davinasquirrel7672Ай бұрын
Sadly in the Beaumont case, it is likely that they did not survive for long. Adelaide should dig up more places of interest.

There used to be a ride somewhere, and it FUCKING TRAUMATIZED ME. It was based on the Sodder Family fire. I rode the ride(sort of like a rollercoaster). Heres what I remember: 1. A blonde girl in a nightgown 'jumping' from her bed while the brother 'ran'. 2. The fire and heat(IT WAS SO HOT-) 3. The 'smoke'(it was fog machines, but it smelled like real smoke. The ride might have burned down-) 4. The picture of the house on fire(it was the Sodder house) And 5. Someone on the phone. This ride GENUINELY traumatized me enough to give me Pyrophobia. I was a FIVE YEAR OLD. I rode it with my grandma. I know it existed at some point in time, mainly because I have vivid memories of it and it wasn’t a dream, I could smell the smoke, but you can’t look it up anymore.

The animal liver instead of a heart being put in a box is straight out of the original Snow White story. That's so bizarre.
@Becca123bАй бұрын
I’ve never been interested in watching conspiracy or crime videos but when you started showing them, I really got actually interested because you had a little humor to it, and still tell the stories about the victims and having respect for them thank you for entering video ❤❤
@Alino-Ай бұрын
The humor really helps in getting through these stories. I have a weird fascination with the macabre, and really enjoy true crime as a result. But man, the stories can be really emotionally draining, so I'm glad there's a bit of humor to keep things from being too bleak.

House fires get approximately 1500 degrees. When someone is cremated the fire is 1400 to 1800 degrees and leaves bone fragments behind. I do not believe those children burned in that fire.

My little girl turned me on to Kris. She found her “sillier” videos which led to her finding her “not so sillier” videos and well, here we are…🤷♀️ I swear I’m a good mom… This is my “favorite cold case”- which sounds HORRENDOUS {who has a favorite unsolved murder?!} but there are SO many unexplained and just plain weird details about this case… Thanks for all the hard work… Ok, I’d been wondering about Vessi… I trust her to work with “good sponsors only”, so now I gotta try these shoes. SHUT UP!!! I’m literally 10 seconds in and already baffled. My family is from Fayetteville WV. I go once a year Labor Day weekend for a HUGE family reunion and to visit grandparents, aunt Peggy, and uncle Bobby’s graves. It’s such a tiny speck of a town that I never hear about it unless talking about white water rafting or the bridge. So to find out bad shit happened here is CRAZY!!
