I agree with Jackson. It’s really uncomfortable to watch a homeless person get a camera shoved in their face every time they receive a donation from someone. Keep in mind the homeless are not proud of being homeless and having their face and misfortune shown on the internet without their consent is messed up. Plus you don’t need gratification to do something nice, just do something nice in your own time. It’s scummy and it dehumanizes the person receiving the donation

I had to disagree with Charlie and Andrews take on people who record themselves giving away to charity or some homeless person. Jackson was right in that argument. What I especially didn't agree with is the fact that Charlie said that it doesn't take away from the deed. It absolutely does, if you're helping the homeless or donating to something, with your main reason being to give yourself a good reputation, or for publicity, it's a shitty thing to do. Obviously it is still great that it is helping someone in need, but it is not as genuine or kind as someone doing it solely to help someone. There are other ways to talk about charity or helping people, recording a homeless person after giving them money is pretty scummy. Because usually, the homeless person isn't going to tell you to f#ck off after you just gave them money, so they will just stand there, otherwise they will look ungrateful. It's still great that people are helping others out, but I would much rather have it where people did it without having an agenda behind it. Ricegum gave money to a homeless person, but it made him look like an even bigger douche than if he didn't because not only did he record it, he also made it rain on the guy. You're a far better person if other people are the ones to talk about you being a good person, instead of you yourself telling the world how helpful and nice you are.

@@rien6215 I think we should establish a difference in the method in which it is done. When someone like Mr.beast does it, he records them getting the money, and that's really it. Nothing too different than how most donations go, other than its being recorded, so he gets views, and the homeless person gets money. Are they being exploited? Yes, they are. Degraded? That's more of a debate. However, the alternative is that they wouldn't get money. Sure the KZbin could donate to a homeless person if they see them, but they wouldn't spend all day searching for them in order to give them $100 (I mean, have you ever done that?) This is different than someone like Rice gum doing it, because he will "make it rain" and watch them pick up the money. This is clearly degrading because it involves ricegum showing how desperate they are for money. Likewise, ricegum doesn't gain anything from degrading them, as he gets the views regardless. It's awful that he can't even pretend to be a good person. Everyone here has a problem with number 2, but the discussion should be centered around number 1.

On Jackson’s point it’s kind of exploitative to video the homeless because the person who’s filming has power in that situation. That’s where I agree donating to people should be more of a private thing. Like if anything give someone money. Then ask them to join you for lunch or what ever and if it’s ok if you film a little. You don’t need to film the actual handing of money.

Yeah, I disagree with charlie in the sense that I feel like it takes away from it a lot if you film a good deed, its different if you accidentally are seen on some random camera and someone else films you and posts it but if you the person giving the money out films it it's almost as if you only gave money away to make content not because you wanted to help people and even though at the end of the day they get the money and are helped that doesn't change anything for me i don't see it as a net positive putting a camera on the situation is somewhat degrading but there is no time for pride in that sort of situation from the homeless perspective especially if the person offered you cash even if you didn't wanna be filmed you might be so inclined to say yes to being filmed because you don't wanna upset the generous person or not get the money.
@telepathicfish14893 жыл бұрын
Jackson is absolutely right about the homeless thing.
@Acechao1113 жыл бұрын
I think the reason there was so much dispute is because Jackson is talking bout the moral character behind the action, that’s what he wants to preserve. Charlie is more focused on the consequences of the action. For example, Jackson believes that it is inauthentic to give money just for the attention or to make content. He believes that it should be motivated by a genuine desire to help, and so even if the idea becomes a trend through KZbin, it just spreads the kind of self-focused attention of the action, so we’re just creating more inauthentic people who are only helping for their own ego. He is concerned about the moral character in the individual these actions, and believes that they’re not being good people, even if they may be doing a good action, it’s not a good example of moral character. Charlie, however, believes that the good of the action lies within the consequences of the action, and the intention of it isn’t quite as relevant, since at the end of the day somebody in need is being helped. The fact that the video maker gets something out of it for himself or uses it to make himself look good isn’t as important to Charlie, since at the end of the day, somebody got helped, and a message is being spread to others who may imitate and help someone too. They may not have helped otherwise, but since they saw that someone like Mr.Beast got a lot of views or publicity for something like that may lead them to do the same, which means more homeless people got helped, and more content creators got money and views for it or made themselves look good. The fact that it may be egotistical isn’t as important for Charlie because the consequences outweighs this negative. One person thinks it is wrong to use someone else for your own ends (creating the content, looking like you’re a good person when you’re not) and since this is a general moral rule, they’re not doing something good. The other believes that if using this as content may inspire others to cause positive consequences, that this is the better thing to do. They both just have different idea about what ‘good’ means. Perhaps it could be settled by saying that a good thing happens, but that doesn’t always mean someone is a good person.

In regards to giving money to the homeless for content argument, part of the reason why it's unethical and exploitative is that the homeless person is super vulnerable and will feel much more inclined into accepting the condition of being filmed in order to get the money they desperately need to survive. It would only be a "fair" trade-off if it's a life-changing amount of money being given, and most YT's are dropping like $20 max.
@cman89953 жыл бұрын
On top of that it's likely that they'll spend those money on drugs and alcohol anyways. Homeless people don't need money beyond their basic needs, what are they going to do with it, spend a week in a luxury hotel and go back to the streets? Save the money for the future that they don't have? I wouldn't blame them for spending it on drugs and alcohol, because it's really useless, and spending it any other way is even more depressing. What those people actually want is a decent, stable income so they could actually live in a house and quit being a homeless. Unless you aren't looking after them until they get a job, throwing them a wad of cash is really unethical and its likely to put them in a worse situation than they already are.

You don't actually give a shit, you just want to feel good about yourself and YouTubing that shit is the pinnacle of this behavior. Totally with Jackson with this. I think the solution is to give money to charity quietly. As Jesus once said about giving, do not let your right hand know what your left hand is doing... Oh and re Charlie's point about giving money to the homeless, I do have to say it comes across as slightly naive. I worked in a cafe for homeless people on Friday nights and all of them had drug and alcohol related issues. Investing money in rehab and shelters as well as buying people stuff that meets their basic needs (e.g. food) is a good way of avoiding fueling drug and alcohol addictions. Maybe I can settle this one. I think the reason there was so much dispute is because Jackson is talking bout the moral character behind the action, that’s what he wants to preserve. Charlie is more focused on the consequences of the action. For example, Jackson believes that it is inauthentic to give money just for the attention or to make content. He believes that it should be motivated by a genuine desire to help in order for it to be good, and so even if the idea becomes a trend through KZbin, it just spreads the kind of self-focused attention of the action, so we’re just creating more inauthentic people who are only helping for their own ego. He is concerned about the moral character behind these actions, and believes that they’re not being good people, even if they may be doing a good action, it’s not a good example of moral character. One person thinks it is wrong to use someone else for your own ends (creating the content, looking like you’re a good person when you’re not) no matter what, and since this is a general moral rule, they’re not doing something good. The other believes that if using this as content may inspire others to cause positive consequences, that this is the better thing to do. They both just have different idea about what ‘good’ means. Perhaps it could be settled by saying that a good thing happens, but that doesn’t always mean someone is a good person.

There's definitely a problem with the structure of E3. Way too much pointless talking in-between and during segments(not all talking is pointless or bad), some segments being too long, trailers just not being good, etc. Kaya complaining about the intermissions doesn't make sense though, people need a break at some point, I never saw 20 minutes of Assassin's Creed or Watch Dogs because I didn't sit there watching the stream like an idiot while waiting for the next main segment to start. E3 as a general idea is great. It's one big event more people will come together and talk about. More people are going to see it because I'm sure many people wouldn't see or think they'd care about some standalone showcases.

Although this E3 wasn't one of the best whatsoever (except Elden Ring), Andrew and Kaya's arguments against it is so illogical. So nobody is allowed to reveal things at festivities anymore? Why even have them? Why go to a town festival and eat the hot dogs there when you can just order hot dogs from Wal Mart to be delivered? It's about the fun of games and us celebrating new ones coming. It's not that difficult. Also Jackson is right. Lots of these games were teased or already revealed prior to E3. If they don't like E3, guess they hate almost any and all gaming conventions that happen throughout the year.

I usually agree with Charlie but his homeless argument was awful, and a direct contradiction of the comments and his stance in the edp445 situation. In this episode he says it doesn't matter if a homeless person gets filmed receiving money, because they still got the money. But in the edp445 situation, which is similar in the sense that it was shitty people doing a good thing, he said, and I agree, that the man who organised the 'sting' was bad because he didn't release the video until it got full monotisation and he could profit off of it. But here, he justifies practically the same behaviour just in another context, these are shitty people doing good things for their own benefits, just as the edp445 situation was - despite how much of an absolute insufferable arsehole the man that organised that was.
@DasBrot-51503 жыл бұрын
Hes saying when monitization is the sole reason. Like when he gives streamers money he post it because without that ad rev, he couldn't do it. The EDP situation would be like if you gave the homeless man a check and told him it wouldn't be good till the video dropped

@@DasBrot-5150 That's just the bullshit business justification coming in. You really think KZbinrs are giving millions of dollars to the homeless? Or even giving close to what they make in ad revenue? They give a fraction of what they actually make. They're using the homeless as props. This concept of a "Karma Wallet" where you earn good karma to balance out bad karma is the reason why so many American Christian pastors demand money for their luxurious lifestyles. "I did more good than bad so its okay for me to be greedy". Its the reason why corporations can just donate a million dollars to "Eco-Friendly Charities" but make a billion dollars destroying our climate. Also, giving money to the homeless is a damaging trend that focuses on the superficial idea of "being poor = being homeless". It dumbs down a complicated issue that revolves around mental health, failed social nets, society's treatment of the homeless, drug abuse, etc. Its like finding someone who is severely depressed and sending them on a three day cruise thinking you've saved them. Educating people on why homelessness exist and how we can solve it would be more helpful than some asshole going out with a camera and 500 bucks.

I think they shouldn’t pretend that is explicitly a noble cause, where they want to inspire and bring hope and give money, if there was no gain for them, they would never give $500 to some homeless guy. There is a gain for everybody but it is not noble or done out of good heart. I’d argue it’s influence is not even that strong. All they do is show other well off people, if you give money, you can get views.

What about people who get endorsed to do charity, people like Mr. Beast needs sponsorships in order to afford the large amounts of money he dishes out. He could do charitable donations off camera but at the end of the day he wouldn't be able to give anywhere near as much money to those who need it. I definitely understand what you mean with certain youtubers who do stuff like that fo only attention, but a lot of the channels built around charitable efforts use the money generated to fund further and bigger charitable events and efforts
