Hispanic person here to fact check. We don't change anyone's names, Charlie. We'd still call you Charlie if you were to come in front of the spanish elders. HOWEVER. The name itself could be translated to Carlos in the sense that it's the spanish version of the name Charlie, same as Karl in German or Carlo in Italian or how the name Andrew could have different versions in other languages like Andrés or Andrej. But if you're born an Andrew, no spanish speaking person is going to call you Andres just because they're speaking in spanish. They'd still say "Andrew"

AzureBeats it doesn't though, it's just a variation for the language but the name you're born with is the one you use globally. The only thing the name means is where you come from. The reason I feel passionate about this was because I grew up 7 years in the US and some of my old classmates had an ungodly hard time wrapping their heads around the fact that names don't get translated.

The name translating thing also exists in Russian. Alex would be Sasha, Steven would be Slayvic, Gene would be Ghenya, Anna would be Anya. Not all names translate, Charlie would still be Charlie in Russian, just pronounced differently. Source - My parents are from Russia, I speak intermediate conversational Russian.
