THANK YOU! Your explanation of the "patting" method was a total game changer. Now that I only use 2 drops and pat it in, the serums soak in perfectly! The Ordinary should really pay you for teaching people how to properly use their products. This was really helpful.

Hey :) The weird thing is that they gave me those instructions a few years ago when I asked for a routine. The Ordinary wants people to learn about the serums and various methods and figure it out on their own or talk to other people. 🙂 But I am glad that it helped you. You are welcome. welcome.

I assume that it could based on following information that I have: "Pilling" often occurs due to many different reasons, for example amount of the product being applied, consistencies of the products being used in conjunction, the total number of products being applied, etc.

There is also another option = formulations aren't working properly together. For example, if you use the Azelaic Acid, which includes a lot of dimethicone, it doesn't work well with water-based serums or/and oil.

I used 4-5 drops of three serums, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and alpha arbutin. And observed piling. I checked if the actives are compatible with each other. I previously had no issue with Hyaluronic acid + VITAMIC c + alpha arbutin. Only ingredient changes is niacinamide. Niacinamide alone absorbed well in skin. After you video, looks like I have been using more quantity than absorbed by skin. Especially while layering skincare, it's more important to use right amount.
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet3 жыл бұрын
Hey! :) Yes, pilling can occur more often when layering multiple serums in one routine. It's best to use less product of each serum to make sure that it doesn't pill! :)

Hello Priscilla 🙂 The Hyaluronic Acid tends to be a real troublemaker. The Ordinary recommends using about 2-3 drops of each serum, which can sometimes be a bit too much. There are other Hyaluronic Acid serums on the market that tend to work better. So if the problem still shows up, I recommend moving on to another brand. And you still can use The ordinary Niacinamide along with it 🙂 , but apart from that, do not give up ;) And thank you ❤️

@atzimba67374 жыл бұрын
Clare & Michael what i’ve found that works is after each product you apply, you wash your hands with water to take off the excess of your fingers and let it dry for a few minutes. pilling happens rarely or when i’m not careful. and for azelaic acid, i put a lil on my fingers the apply to areas and if i feel i need more then i add little by little so it’s not too much

Love how straight-forward your videos are! Helps me a lot as someone who has struggled with acne for awhile. I'm just now learning about the benefits of niacinamide and hyaluronic acid but I was curious as to what you think is the best for ridding black heads/large pores? Have had issues with them on my nose! :( I just started using niacinamide but I was wondering if there was anything else that could help!
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet4 жыл бұрын
If you are looking to target open pores and blackheads, the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% will target these concerns. I must say that my pores aren't large, but it did something to them and helped me! Just have a look at the daily pictures that I shared in this review: The Ordinary Review Before and After - 31 Days - 31 Pictures kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWSziWCGltuafNE But to be honest, try to accept it, there is nothing wrong with them. Social media is terrible in telling people how they should look like. I mean, there is nothing wrong with a good skincare routine, and I think that you should take care of your skin, but do not overdo it. However, if you still want to try a regimen you could try the following routine from the Ordinary: AM Clean Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% PM Clean Salicylic Acid 2% Solution Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Note: For non-comedogenic surface hydration, apply 100% Plant-Derived Squalane as the last step in the AM and PM. Always avoid unprotected solar exposure. It is affordable and can help you to target your concerns ❤️

That's way too much here is what The Ordinary recommends: Patch testing - We recommend avoiding unprotected solar exposure, gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin. For more information on how to do a test patch, please visit our Patch Test Guide on The Ordinary website. Order of Application - We suggest using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration. Generally, we recommend applying water-based solutions first, followed by oil formulations, and finally cream/suspension formulas. If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck. Acne - Just as a note - none of our products can be considered medical treatments for acne, so we suggest consulting with your physician to see what may work best for your skin. :-) Pregnancy - While each ingredient has been tested and is considered safe for topical application, DECIEM products have not been tested on pregnant or breastfeeding people. When pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended to avoid any skincare products containing retinoids such as formulations with Granactive Retinoid or Retinol.

I just saw your post, is this all due to your acne or what has caused the redness along your temples?

Thank you for the video! What about pilling when applying a third product? When I use hyaluronic acid and niacinamide in moderate amount (2 drops) I have no pilling, but if I use, for example, granactive retinoid in squalane on top of those two, I get pilling... It must be due to the fact it's too much layering rather than product incompatibility?

Yes, I think so. I have a guide that usually helps: melissavandijk.docdroid.com/eqdojIU/how-to-avoid-skincare-pilling-pptx

Yes ive fugured this on my own ..first i applied hyaluronic acid on dry skin and it was peeling off and then i thoght well if it attatches itself to water then maybe my skin needs to be damp for it to attach and absorb into my skin. Thanks 😊

How long can a niacinamide last when it is already open? I started using it on March and stopped using it on April-May and I plan to use it this June. Will it not get spoiled?
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet4 жыл бұрын
It's a small icon on the packaging that tells you how long it lasts after opening. It's 12 months :) see here: imgur.com/a/vGyGgcA

So less is more kinda thing. I thought I was the only one that this was happening to. I'm going to start using less hyaluronic acid and then apply less of my no7 moisturiser. Hopefully it helps. Thank you

Yes, less is more! :) How much product you use of each product in your routine plays a bit role! :)

I've decided to buy The Ordinary niacinamide product but I wanted to know first how to properly use it and luckily I came across your video❤. Anyway, can niacinamide help with seborrheic dermatitis? Lots of thanks to anyone who's going to answer this.
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Жыл бұрын
Niacinamide can help regulate oil production and reduce inflammation, potentially easing some symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis. However, its effectiveness can vary from person to person, like with any skincare product. 😉
