When I was a kid, I thought superweapons like this were awesome and terrifying. Now that I am an adult, I find the "practical" ways of fighting wars to be much more horrifying on an existential level. The depressing truth is, if any of today's armies were to build a Ratte, it could be located in moments using satellite, and eradicated with 100% precision using drone strikes and AI before it could even leave the factory.

For the non-german folks here who are wondering why the Heck it is called Maus and Ratte: Maus original name wasn't actually Maus. It was named "Mammut" (Mammoth) which actually fits for its Weight and Size. The Nickname Maus was actually a Trick to let the allies believe that they just build another smaller tank and not a Superheavy one. The same would count for the Ratte Design which would have ended up just as Landkreuzer P.1000

My guess is it would simply require it's own escort posse so to speak. Anti-air guns in a vicinity around the tank in addition to on the tank itself. A constant escort of fighters above to keep bombers at bay.

I think someone forgot what the "blitz" part or Blitzkrieg means. This would have been a relatively easy target for bombers. Slow, conspicuous and relatively soft, I'd imagine a grand slam bomb would make quite a mess of it. You'd only operate it when air superiority had been established. Imagine trying to beach this thing off a massive landing craft! I don't know if it could even move on sand!

It was so overwhelmingly in favor of the allies compared to the actual German army. The Germans at Normandy were basically minor garrisons while the weight of the German coastal defense was in Calais, as the Allies had deceived the Germans into thinking that was where the landing would be. D-Day theoretically should have been a cakewalk if all the preliminary operations had gone well (they didn’t).

TBH, they really missed out on the Panther and Tiger being the other way around since tigers are larger than panthers. Its actually the same with Mice and rats, rats are larger than mice. But tbh, I think it turned out much better the way the named it, as I think the Maus really does look like it would be a mouse, just super large, while the panthers and tigers look the part as panthers and tigers in a mechanical way.

Also back when the B1 Bis was considered a heavy tank, its weight class was considered a heavy tank, and that was early in the war.
