I see both sides as a port fan as I get were Collingwood is coming from I think both side to to work things out as maybe the teal Guernsey for the away and keep the black and white for home. But Eddie McGuire needs to shut up and stop thinking he owns the AFL

Nope. The AFL would not have let Port join the AFL if they were gonna wear prison bars. You can’t just join a league and then 25 years later, change your jumper to another teams design. SANFL heritage is completely irrelevant. You want prison bars, add the colour teal!

I fully agree as a Port Adelaide fan I only started following footy in general in 2014. I only really care about the AFL (When it comes to Footy) I don't care about the VFL, SANFL, WAFL or any of the state leagues. An I probably won't unless someone I know plays in them or I'm playing AFL Evo or watching someone play AFL Evo. I think the Gurnseys you designed 3:35 are good. The only other compromise I can come up with it to have the Black and White as a Showdown gurney the Crows don't care what jumper we wear. I would love to see jumpers specifically for the showdowns. So my Idea Port wear those gurnsey we wear at 3:35 and have one showdown gurnsey. Like the video and Idea. Keep it up

Some good arguments, however the AFL league you’re referring to has not be around for ‘decades and decades’. What you mean to say is the VFL has been around for decades and decades. Why can’t two clubs have same colours but with different jumpers, other sporting leagues around the world do? Collingwood don’t own the colours Black and White? Do they? No they don’t! I think Port should be able to wear their original and heritage jumper (like other AFL clubs do), except when Port play Collingwood, this is the extent of the compromise. Everyone has a heritage and Port should be able to hold onto theirs!

Since when has Port Adelaide's current leaders said that they want that Guernsey in week in week out? I'm sure that's not the case. The club has maintained a consistent stance that they just want it against the Adelaide Crows in Showdowns. I think many of us Port fans love our current V jumper as well, we just want the original PB jumper in Showdowns ... especially since the AFL's Heritage games are a thing of the past. And the idea of playing in the original prison bar jumper in Adelaide against Adelaide has nothing at all to do with Collingwood, and even some Collingwood fans agree with this as well. The decision entirely is up to the AFL not any other club.

Look I get why people don’t understand the importance of the prison bar jumper, that’s fine. But we should be able to wear it in showdowns and possibly in finals where Collingwood are not playing. If port were to change their jumper they could put teal around the white prison bars, which allows them to keep the black and white. Also I don’t think you understand the one club mantra. And the reason why we weren’t allowed in earlier was because the AFL and the SANFL had a sook a refused to allow them to join. That’s why the crows were introduced to the AFL also when port made the transition the SANFL moved to the AFL as that was the top team at the time.

Let Port use the black and white prison bars when not playing Collingwood. When playing Collingwood, why not use black and silver prison bars? Question: Why is there no issue for Collingwood and North Melbourne wearing the same pattern - importantly when it's gloomy, raining and/of muddy, it becomes near impossible to tell the teams apart - both guernseys end up looking dark brown and light brown vaguely vertical broad stripes.

@ Did you not read my whole question? Yes, they are blue and white (even though the pattern is identical), and for many clashes that is difference enough, but when it's a downpour/muddy/gloomy day or evening, it's too often not black and white or blue and white, but rather dark brown and light brown and dark brown and light brown.

I haven't really seen Port fans trying to get prison bars as their standard jumper. I agree that just won't happen, and wouldn't work. I've mostly seen them calling for it in specific matches such as showdowns, where Collingwood are nowhere to be seen. On that, I think Collingwood need to grow up and stop being so territorial. There's already teams with similar colours (Geelong and Carlton), similar jersey designs (North, Hawthorn and Collingwood). As long as it isn't causing any problems on field, which would be the case in games that don't include Collingwood at all, then there's no issue until they manufacture one. That said, if they really do want the prison bars all year long, then you are right. Compromise or move on. I'd go with moving on.

Im not a port fan, but i dont understand the argument, There are 3 clubs that wear Blue and white, albeit in different jumpers, And then look at other sports, lets look at Football (soccer) how many teams in england have similar colours and similar shirt designs, They should both be able to wear black and white! Yeah but players mix it up plenty of time. There have even been mix ups when Collingwood play Geelong and they have a different colour in blue and instead of black. Port joined as power with teal as their colour and now they wish to become the port magpies. I don’t mind his teal prison bar idea. As this shouldn’t clash with another team. But black and white are Collingwood colours in this league

I'm a port fan but I really don't care what we wear (except silver V's) I do love the prison bars and I hate edddie mcguire sooking about it. But in the afl we are not the magpies, we are power. We came to the afl not just black and white but as teal and silver to avoid the colour differences between Collingwood and I do agree if that we want to wear the guernsey, Add teal in some Way or at least wear the guernsey once a year against the crows or someone else. It is part of our history and heritage but we can't wear it unless if we add teal or if Collingwood is no longer in the afl then wear it. I can agree with Eddie in some way but I just hate him being an absolute sook. Like Collingwood wear white shorts instead of black against Geelong. But yeah I wouldnt mind wearing in the afl but with Collingwood being black and white we can't unless we add teal.

You do an awesome job with these Guernsey, love watching you recreations. The other idea is let Port wear White Prison Bars on their Guernsey with Black in between them, but add teal to the top of the Guernsey around the chest area. I think that could work too.

I am a Carlton Supporter but I think that could work so Port get to wear white stripes like they requested with Teal Base Guernsey. Either that or Teal Prision Bars or just move on cause they way things look no one will be happy and move on peacefully and this argument is gonna go on for years. Even if Port have worn that for decades in the SANFL this is the AFL ( like you said ) and it just won't work. Port Fans seem to just make things hard.

It's a no from me. Port should wear the prison bar jumper but with a teal yoke. I mean that's pretty much what they wore when they entered the league, just make that horrible zig zag thing straight lines. I'm also a Collingwood supporter and I think port should wear the prison bars unless they play the pies away, but a teal yoke could be a good compromise.

Just discovered this channel and easily one of the best AFL channels out there. As a Port fan i'm strictly in the 'move on' camp. The prison bars without the black and white is no different to wearing the current guernsey - so may as well just wear that. Only issue is the AFL still haven't outright denied the request, so until that actually happens think it's still worth asking the question. You don't get if you don't ask right?

Port Adelaide adopted the prison bar guernsey in 1902 while Collingwood have had the black and white stripes since 1892 when the club was established. Therefore for the Collingwood Football Club had the black and white with stripes originally.

How long has Collingwood worn a black guernsey with white stripes? About 22 years (since 2001). Prior to that, Collingwood wore a white guernsey with 3 black stripes. That is light years away from a black guernsey with a horizontal white stripe and 6 white stripes (and a white back panel). From Collingwood’s own Wikipedia: “Traditionally, Collingwood has worn a white guernsey with black stripes. The club switched to the black guernsey with white stripes in 2001.[43]” So, really, Port had a Black with white stripes guernsey almost 100 years before Collingwood.

I like the concepts but this wouldn’t be an issue in any other league in the world and doesn’t need to be an issue in this one. Its clearly different to Collingwood’s jumper and all fans who watch regularly would be able to tell them apart instantly. Essendon and Richmond are basically the same to someone who doesn’t watch regularly and that’s not an issue, and neither is north’s which is extremely similar to Collingwood’s when it’s the mainly white with blue stripes design. Just wear clash jumpers when they meet, the Pies didn’t invent black and white and therefore everyone has to ask their permission.

As a diehard Port Fan, I have a point of view that meets somewhere in the middle. On the subject of the original black and white prison bar guernsey, have it only for our home showdown, against the Crows, nothing more. I think that’s fair. For the case of bringing it in as a semi-permanent/permanent guernsey, I think that you keep the traditional black and white design but make the part above the horizontal bar teal instead of black. Similar to our 2004 guernsey, therefore, it encompasses both parts of our history and has a compromise that keeps our heritage intact.

Poorly researched video! The petition launched by the club was to wear the PB in showdowns ONLY. Not wear it against Collingwood. Not to wear it full time. Not to use the Magpies nickname. The club only wants to wear it for games that don't involve Collingwood at all. The majority of fans support this stance. Nobody wants a bastardised prison bars to use all season, people are happy with the V design.

@@mattn1 I take it you don't understand the circumstances that lead to the formation of the Crows? In the early 90's Port Magpies tried to join the AFL, this was seen as an act of treachery by the SANFL. The SANFL was holding off joining the AFL, and this had forced their hand. The SANFL got an injunction placed upon Port Adelaide, and the issue got taken to the South Australian High Court. The result of the court case was the Adelaide Crows being formed and entering the AFL. Very few Port fans really took the Crows as their team because it was a flavourless corporate think project. Not to mention the perceived "establishment" vs Port theme that had long prevailed due to Port's proud working class history. There has been a long established dislike of Port in the SANFL dating back to their periods on dominance, this act of "betrayal" solidified this. The final SANFL grandfinal before SA had an AFL team was a great example of this. Glenelg Coach Graham Cornes said; "I want to tell you that you want to enjoy this moment for what it is because the good times are well and truly gone. Apart from Jack (John Cahill) and the players there are a couple of individuals out there who are responsible for that and make sure you enjoy tonight because the good times will not happen again." In 94 Port was granted an AFL license, and joined in 97. The SANFL team renamed and joined the league. The team that remained in the SANFL was a new team (until 2014 when both teams merged to become a single Port Adelaide Football Club). The unification in 2014 was a member driven push to unify the clubs again. Many members feel that moving on and forgetting the SANFL history is what lead to Port's issues in the late 2000's and early 2010's. The showdown is much more than Port Vs Crows, it boils down to Port Adelaide Football Club Vs the SANFL. This is why we want to wear the Prison Bars in the Showdowns.

Who chose teal anyway. It's a terrible colour which clashes with everything. Blimey look at that white change top. If it clashes with white you've chosen a lousy colour. No team uses sky blue and that's much better.
