Fun Facts: The Spider-Pig song was inspired by one of the writers who sat behind a little kid on a plane who kept repeating the first 4 lines of the Spider-Man theme song, so replaced man with pig and we got this. In the scene when all of Springfield form the angry mob and march towards the Simpsons house, every and I mean every single person in that long shot is an actual featured character from the show.

Itchy and Scratchy is a cartoon within the Simpsons that Bart and Lisa like to watch. The beginning of this movie has them watching the new Itchy and Scratchy movie as a somewhat 4th wall break. That is what the beginning is. It's the cartoon within the cartoon. It is essentially their Tom and Jerry, as you said. Itchy, the mouse, usually messes up Scratchy, the cat. Edit: This was released shortly after the end of season 18. There was a teaser trailer for the movie that was released during a premiere of season 18.
