I have bipolar one. when you are hypomanic you aren't acting like yourself, you can sometimes be a completely different person. But being manic isn't an excuse it's an explanation. It doesn't excuse anyone's actions. If she was manic, it can be hard apologize for something like this since "you weren't yourself". BUT one must apologize for their actions, even if they lack that control. If it impacts someone else then always apologize.
@solenyucel7729Ай бұрын
I have no idea who Nikita Dragun is but from what I can tell from the body cam footage, apparently she was having a manic episode. my brother has bipolar disorder and I have witnessed from the first hand that he turned into a totally different person in the peak of the manic state. He gave me hell during the time I managed to take him to a hospital and the doctors had a very hard time with him as well. I don't think it's fair to judge someone's actions when they are apparently not themselves. I am also very conflicted about the apology part. One hand, I agree with you but at the other hand, a huge crash and depression follows the manic episode and the person feels an overwhelming shame and can barely function in life for months. how can we expect an apology from someone who is already in severe depression?
@hennigadient4265Ай бұрын

@ImaBvgY0v20 күн бұрын
@@solenyucel7729 trust me I’m aware of the highs and lows as I also have bipolar one, apologizing at the lows is extremely hard the only way I’ve been able to apologize is after I’m out of my cycle of mania and depression. It sucks because you know you weren’t yourself and that’s no who you are as a person, but it still hurt people and impacted ppl. For me personally I’m a it’s an explanation not an excuse. I can be extremely mean while manic when that’s not who I am as a person when I’m not, I can apologize and say I was manic but that still won’t take back what I said and that doesn’t fix the wound that I left upon that person. It give context to the situation but being manic can’t absolve ppl from consequences. Apologizing eventually is better than not at all. I’ve been manic for months before and until I’m out of that state, I realize my actions and give a sincere apology.

HRH is a mother now. She needs to check her behaviour around children and use more self awareness (which she says she has while others don’t). Her anger is off the scale at times. I have to comment. I work in law enforcement and deal with people like Nikita every day. I see this type of behavior every single day. She clearly suffers from a mental health disorder but still doesn’t excuse the ignorant behavior. I too was assaulted by having water thrown at me. The female who did it had barricaded herself in the restroom and that could’ve easily been urine. Dealing with these people is mentally exhausting and sometimes I wonder why I do it but hearing you say this type of behaviour warrants an apology somehow makes me feel slightly better
@KurlyKyАй бұрын
I 100% agree with you about the Nikita Dragon situation. Mental illness-related episodes may be an explanation for why something happened, but should not be a “get off the hook” justification. At the end of the day, if someone has done wrong during an episode, there are still consequences and required reparations! In the most extreme cases, that’s why “not criminally responsible” exists. It acknowledges the mental illness component, but that doesn’t mean everything is fine-the person having the episode still wronged someone/multiple people, and consequences are still given, like being placed in an institution with a LONG road to full reintroduction privileges (if ever). In minor cases like this, be honest about the episode and apologize.
@gwenmphАй бұрын
As someone who is bipolar, it’s really hard when you’re symptomatic because you know you’re being erratic and not making sense, but you can’t do anything about it. You sit there and watch yourself do things that you would never normally do. And then you do have to apologize for that because it doesn’t matter if you’re having an episode or not when you hurt other people. And usually because of that I give a lot of people grace when they’re having an episode and I don’t take anything they say or do personally.

Tbh I agree. I've never had enough mental illness for me to lose my self control, but I've worked in the part of my city with the most (or second most, I don't know the exact stats) mentally ill, unhoused people, and you just can't see that every day without understanding that sometimes people just aren't in control of their own actions. She wasn't even that bad. She was certainly being rude, but she was only criticizing the cop's appearance, and it only seemed like that to us who were watching the footage. I bet if the cop asked clarifying questions, there's a chance she wouldn't have been able to explain what she was actually saying. The cop did exactly what I would have done for the most part, though, which is ignore her. She's having a he'll of a time in this scenario, whatever she's going through, and if I can't solve it, I just try to wait it out, or don't get involved. She doesn't need to make a public apology to the cop in my mind; she just needs to get the medical help that a medical condition like bipolar requires, and to recuperate.

This was a great topic! I look forward to your next video :) I believe that mental illness/disorders are an explanation for bad behaviour, but never an excuse. An apology is almost always owed following such incidents, especially if you are not actively treating said disorder or doing your best to enact preventive measures. Is a psychopath or sociopath not to blame for committing a crime or hurting someone (psychically or mentally/emotionally) purely because they have a disorder that results in them feeling no guilt, remorse or empathy? I think not. Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD - psychopathy/sociopathy) is just as real as any other disorder, so I feel strongly that culpability should remain the same. I say all of this as someone who has suffered from severe bouts of depression and panic attacks throughout my early preteen years, teen years and 20s, and still struggles with C-PTSD. And while some might argue that they don’t compare to something like bipolar or schizophrenia and that I’m therefore not entitled to speak on it, I have had a few psychotic episodes and done extremely dumb and regrettable shit while experiencing them, so I feel that allows me a voice in this matter. Mental illness and disorders are absolutely not something to be ashamed of, but when people don’t take accountability for their actions and apologise where necessary, we suffer greater demonisation and ostracising. Whether aware and conscious of your actions or not, they were still your actions. People shouldn’t fear those with mental illnesses/disorders.

I agree one needs to be held appropriately accountable for their behavior, actions and offenses regardless of mental health status. However, I think we as a society should also be held accountable for our behavior and social systems we support which allow, encourage, and actually reward bad behavior, grifting, scamming, narcissism, plagiarism, cultism, negative consequences of group think, and other anti-social and abusive behaviors. So many celebrities, micro-celebrities, influencers, rich people, men, etc. need more accountability. I am so tired. It is society’s responsibility to hold them accountable and not allow for a system in which it happens in the first place - in addition to an individual’s responsibility.

As someone who suffers from bipolar disorder myself on the lower end of the spectrum it is such a wide spectrum and depending where on the scale you are on and medication you are prescribed it is hard to gauge how you are going to react to certain situations and environments. I do also believe that we all know the difference between right and wrong behaviour but whether an episode can make someone unaware of this I'm not sure. Like I said I'm on the lower scale however in difficult situations I can become very defensive at times I suppose it's because mental illness can also come with such a stigma too. Hi Caitlin. I'm over the age of 60, only just, so obviously I have a different relationship with the internet and social media than say my teenage grandchildren. How do the people like Belle Gibson live with themselves? Telling everyone they have terminal cancer and Woohoo I cure myself, with companies falling over themselves to be part of their following. What happened to doing a little checking? What we see on line by these so called 'influencers' is an illusion. Do you think viewers really believe everything is so perfect in their lives? As for the last couple. I honestly don't think that the kids where really crying. I've had five I know real crying. The cheek to just sit there asking for money because 'we are broke' . You are not broke you are entitled! The trans person needs to be brought down a peg or two also. Bipolar is not an excuse to be rude and entitled. Learn some manners and stop being so self centered! We have doctors, nurses working long hours for little pay. We have service men and women risking their lives. We have just ordinary people trying to keep it together and hoping there is some money left over for food, rent, etc. But do we put these people on pedestals, no we put fraudsters, liars, and shameful human beings on them. Oh and then Netflix comes in to make a programme out of it to give them even more money and social status so they can appear on a reality programme. They should be made to payback every single penny , plus work alongside some real people. Work with people who have real terminal cancer, do some restitution to the area of the population they have affected, with no camera's allowed, no phone allowed, just them and reality. Sorry Caitlin for the rant. As someone who lives with a life altering illness these people just get me so wound up. I really worry about my grandchildren watching this behaviour and being influenced by it. X

I'm sure the answer has a multitude of reasons, but I think we can all agree no matter what geographical location you are in, there seems to be a growing number of individuals who simply cannot master social norms. Speaking as a Canadian, specifically in Ontario, we are experiencing a crisis in mental health issues. In 2009, most of the mental institutions were shut down. There was a growing stigma about placing individuals who were struggling with severe mental health abnormalities into these facilities. Programming was supposed to be extended to support families. Yet, here we are in 2024 and almost once a week we are receiving news feeds about someone unhinged in the public sphere causing catastrophic injuries to innocent people due to underlining mental health issues. As a society, we need to wake up and start forcing our governments to implement policies to support mental health. Many of my own students who have been institutionalized have been re-released into the public because there are just no beds or programming to offer. Ontario is underfunded in this area. I want to be able to take public transit without fear of being shot, strangled, knifed, or decapitated.

I feel its inappropriate to show Nikita dragun in the jail etc like that. Especially since she said she was having an episode from her bipolar disorder. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

I fully agree. It's way too vulnerable to be so publicly broadcast to people who don't understand such a complex mental illness that still has such a stigma

Some people don’t care what they do if the end result is financially beneficial to them. I’m horrified that Belle Gibson did this. How could anyone ever think that this was ok? People who are suffering and reaching out for anything that might help turned to her believing that she had the answers. Lives could have been lost.😥 Some will turn away from conventional medicine as they now believe that someone has a guaranteed way of saving their lives.

It’s pretty obvious that we are in the time of Gross Stupidity. Sooo this is hardly surprising. Intelligence empathy understanding is at a premium. That couple’s situation is a result of their own stupidity. Too bad kids are involved. They WILL be in legal trouble real soon. Excellent content I’m a fan of yours👍🏾👍🏽👍🏿👍🏻👍😘🥰😺

Hey! Maybe a nitpick, but pretty sure Nikita goes by she/her pronouns exclusively, not they/them. I've noticed a lot of people use they/them pronouns for trans women and it's still misgendering them. I'm also in no way a fan of Nikita, but as someone who also struggles with bipolar, extreme distress can cause you to go into psychosis and it's not fun. I've never been in that extreme of a situation like jail or fights, but I have been in a state of literal hallucinations and I don't think she was necessarily coming from a place of entitlement at that point in the video with the guard, it seemed like she had fully regressed to try and cope. That video hurts my heart because she is clearly in the wrong state of mind and in so much distress. I don't think anyone should be posting the footage tbh. Anyway, love your videos! I've been binging them

I was a massive nikita fan for years but after those videos i just can’t watch her anymore. I have all the symptoms for bipolar and am trying to find a doctor currently to get diagnosed, so i sympathize with having untreated mental illness but i just feel like without publicity apologizing but sharing her diagnosis, its like she’s using the fact shes bipolar as an excuse which is pretty disgusting because most people with this condition have never acted like this, and it just perpetuates the stigma around bipolar people being massive toxic assholes that prevented me from wanting to see a doctor for years.

More videos showcasing the influencer circus would be great, but not like this where everyone shown has clear mental health issues, like clinical ones.

Bipolar Disorder is not your Identity....you have bipolar disorder or you are suffering from Bipolar Disorder. First of all Personality Disorders are pervasive persistent character features you very much ARE That is you but doesn't mean your acts and behaviour should be bad just because you are a Borderline Personality, Antisocial PD and or Narcissistic PD. Bipolar Disorder is a chronic treatable ( not curable) psychiatric condition. Severe mania / hypomanic and depressive episodes whilst otherwise being yourself You are not Bipolar the wholetime .....moodswings are not Bipolar , those are externally influenced by what others say about you or not and not a real psychiatric treatable condition ( with appropriate medication) Psychotherapy is always excellent for PDs and chronic psychiatric medical conditions

The second one, from a person who is not from US and is not into Tiktok- if anyone thinks first of all this was not first of all fake and for clout... yaiks. This is not bipolar. Like take off your glasses. This person knows exactly what they are doing. yaiks.
