Paul Morphy-esque by GM Anton. He is my idol. Genius is an over used word but Paul Morphy was one. Way ahead of the curve. If Mr Morphy had been born in this era and had access to all the games played in the last 150 years, modern opening theory and computer assistance, he would be the first human being with a 3000 FIDE rating!

I may have missed something, but in the end I didn’t get the point of 14.Rf4 vs Rf1. What was that about? Thanks!
@The5thBeatle2010
@The5thBeatle2010 4 жыл бұрын
Actually Daniel didn't show the real reason why. Rf1 Be6 Qxb7 Qd7 Qxa8 0-0 and White's queen is trapped. However with the rook on f4 white can play Rg4+!! And after Bxg4 Qxd5 (queen escapes) Bxh3 Bh6 and Black cannot take the Queen because then both the rook on f8 and the bishop on e7 are en prise.

Wow! Rg4+!! And if Kh8 Bh6 Rc8 Bg7+ Kg8 Be5+ followed by Bxb8!

Every once in awhile Grischuk suffers a debacle on the chessboard. He suffered one in the poisoned pawn Najdorf a few years ago, in a game even shorter than this one.

Sometimes I fake thinking while still in my preparation, hoping my opponent plays the most natural move and fall into a deep, nasty forest of traps cooked at home. Maybe I'm wrong, but I got the feeling Anton did something similar....

You might be on to something here. If he did, 59 minutes seems almost over the top, but it worked beautifully.

Morphy? What Morphy? Morphy didn't know computers. This is another victory of Stockfish! The weird looking move 14.Rf4 is the clear choice of the engine to keep the initiative (after 14. Rf1 Be6!; 15. Qb7 Qd7; 16.Qxa8 0-0 black has a full compensation for the rook - according to engine). The only move required the Spaniard a long think was 16.Bxe4, just because he was prepared to face 15...0-0 (first choice of the engine) instead of f5!?. Finally, 16...fxe4 is only a terrible blunder, one of those that is not expected by a top player like Grischuk. After that for white the path to win is easy. Congratulation to Stockfish (Komodo, Fritz or what else) for this "brilliant" victory.

Point taken but sadly, Borg-like chess is part of the game now, for as long as there is electricity. Grischuk has a computer too.
@archaeopteryx7405
@archaeopteryx7405 4 жыл бұрын
@@arnieus866 you are right, Grischuk also use the computer and databases. Maybe he didn't pay attention to this strange move because it has been played only a couple of times before at gm level. Also, at first sight, it looks inferior to Ng5, and perhaps it is.
