Yea people don't put such labels like "beginner" to cars. Not all cars are made for competitive riding. Probably 99.9% of people buy motorcycles just to casually drive around not push to the max on a complex track. This kind of labeling just keeps persisting for some reason.

Just for my own personal preference and because I'm someone who tortured 3 different Honda's (72 CB450 - 74 CB750K and a 83 CB1100F all new) in my younger days and couldn't hurt them in any way, as well as my memories of all the troubles my British bikes gave me, I'd pay the extra to get the Honda and that one extra cylinder. I understand Triumph isn't the same today as it was in the distant past, but old memories die hard.

My thought exactly. Triumph may be my favourite brand, but there's no avoiding that the big 4 Japanese brands consistently fill the top 5 most reliable brands, while Triumph is regularly one of the top 3 least reliable brands.

@@gpearce11 I don't think the Reliability things reflect the true picture well. BMW do a lot of recalls. I'm sure triumph have had a lot of gearbox and cam chain tensioner issues. Looks alone are not enough to justify spending all that money on the Trident. After a few years that's when a solid customer review would be required. Time will tell. There's going to be a lot of guinea pigs out there with their beloved Tridents. I'll wait a few years till I know for sure whether it's a good investment or not. Like all brand new road vehicles, there's always going to be imperfections that will need to be ironed out. When it achieves a good solid reputation, then I'll take an interest.

$8000, most bang for the buck. 80 horsepower snd 417 pounds is not a beginner bike, more 2nd bike or intermediate bike. Triples are CROSS PLANE engines. Bidirectional quick shifter very unique for $8000. Triumph is. Premium, European bike vs Honda’s/Yamaha’s. The later are on every corner and 4000 mile service intervals. Triumph hit a home run!!!!

Pretty funny fact. In Mexico, the Trident is priced at about 9800 USD while the CB650R kept its price of about 9400 USD so here the Honda definitely beats the Triumph, especially if they bring the 2021 version. I guess Triumph doesn’t distribute directly here so they end up adding the distributors’ share to the price, which is just sad

@@RichardsModellingAdventures Right you are; Triumph has also done it on their new Rocket 3 and T120 Scramblers. That said, BSA, Ariel, and heritage Triumphs rarely produced tanks with exposed pinch-welds. And, if they did, owners used to pound and grind them out of sight. The more recent trend to mass produce cheap exposed pinch-weld tanks is an unfortunate cost saving measure. In the opinion of many, the cost is greater than the saving; it makes the product look like a cheap looking tin-toy.

This bike looks awesome and I will have to see if there is a Triumph dealer near me come January. I have been toying with the idea of getting a Street Triple, but wasn't sure if I could justify the price or the performance of the bike when it would be used for general commuting on the pothole covered roads we have here in Michigan. I know it will probably never happen, but I wish Triumph would make a 450cc triple cylinder motorcycle that sits somewhere between a dual sport, a supermoto, and a naked bike, and that weighs less than 350 pounds fully fueled and ready to ride. Kind of like if the Tiger 800 and the Street Triple 675 had a baby. Something that would be nimble and agile enough to slip through city traffic on a daily commute while still being comfortable on the highway, but could carve country back roads and pop wheelies on the weekends (and even hit gravel and fire roads with appropriate tires). Most dual sports feel a little sketchy on the highway, and most standard naked bikes feel a bit squirrelly on gravel, so a 450cc triple that could bridge that gap would pretty much be a unicorn for me. Oh well, a guy can dream.

Nice review. But the thing that is worrying is Triump's poor rating on Consumer Reports regarding that all important thing called RELIABILITY. Also, lets not forget that old tried & true principle of not purchasing the first model of anything, since all the to-fix problems show up in the first 2-3 model years, & are hopefully ironed out during this time frame.

Yammie, tyre choice is very personal, you could add an “in my opinion” xyz tyres aren’t good - or “I prefer” xyz tyre. People watch you for advice if they’re beginners. You really need to emphasise that these are your opinions and that people should find the right tyre for them and the way they ride and bear in mind that not all of your followers have the same climate that you do in Texas. You give a lot of good info, but opinions are just that.

I really can't see in what way the Triumph is better than the Honda. I don't know if it's the case in the US, but here in Portugal, the CB650R costs 8,050 EUR and the Triumph costs 7,999 EUR. The Honda has 95 hp and the Triumph has 80 hp. As for quality and reliability, well, do I really need to say anything? Everyone knows Hondas are indestructible.
