Its 11pm... do I need to eat a chickpea melt? No... did I yank my husband into the kitchen and have him make this with me? Absolutely. Honestly, we were just mind boggled and like "There is no way this works right?" Then we tried it and its so good. My husband is a meat and potatoes Irish guy and he was like "Why does that work so well though... thats actually really good!" Soooo yea, absolutely tasty and 10/10.

I've not been able to face eating anything all day, but saw this at 1am and decided I really wanted to try this sandwich. Two thumbs up as it genuinely was 15 minutes to make, was very comforting to eat, and really tasty. I love chickpeas, but was suprised just how well this works in place of tuna. A heartfelt thank you, I feel much better for having a good meal inside me.

I like your recipe and I'm going to try this. The only way I've ever had chickpeas is in hummus and I love hummus. But this is a good alternative if you're trying to cut down on processed meats and tuna unfortunately is still considered a processed meat which too much of that can lead to health problems. But garbanzo beans or chickpeas have no such warning on them so this would be a lot healthier than having a tuna sandwich despite the fact that it doesn't have any Omega-3 that I'm aware of.

I eat a ton of chickpea salad. My rule of thumb for 1 16oz can of chickpeas is 2 HEAPING tablespoons of mayo/ranch/yogurt/sour cream or combination etc. Something else you can do is look up egg salad recipes that generally call for 6 eggs, which is equivalent to 16oz chickpeas. I can't eat eggs or dairy anymore so chickpea salad is something I can easily throw in a wrap or a sandwich etc.

if you use canned chick oeas in the states you will have to get the skins off, boil the chick peas for 10 minutes then put in a bowl of cold water and swirl sround the skins should float to the top

Feliz año! Great recipe as usual, but you missed a trick Albert! You could use this moment to make mayonnaise with the aqua faba(bean liquid), olive oil, lemon juice, add the other flavor ingredients to the blender, save time chopping, and your recipe would be automatically vegan, less wasteful. Most mayonnaise comes in glass jars which are heavy and breakable so shipping costs/energy use higher and most places here in USA do not recycle glass, so homemade mayonnaise can be more ecofreindly. Any extra of this flavored mayo would make a great Waldorf salad! BTW, I've made a vegan garbanzo sandwich filling that's a riff on hummus, mashing the beans and using some tahini instead of mayo, lemon juice, garlic, salt, pepper, dried oregano, add a little bean liquid if too stiff. Of course any fresh herbs, green onion, diced celery etc can be added to taste. Also, with no mayo, it travels really well, fine for several hours at room temperature, even in sandwich it doesn't make the bread soggy, can pack it into celery ribs or inner leaves of romaine lettuce for hearty canapés or healthy snacks. I like it in a lettuce wrap with quick pickled slaw of cabbage, carrot, onion, dill and mustard seeds.

I would like to think this would change my husband’s hatred of chickpeas but I doubt it especially with the cheese which he doesn’t really like.
