Speaking of not teaching new players how to play the game, here are a few settings you should change if you want to better your experience. 1. Enable auto reload. You can still shoot in the middle of reloading, so I see no reason not to use it. You can do in the advanced options. 2. Enable fast weapon switch. Doing this makes it so you don't have to pull up the weapon menu whenever you want to switch, and is just generally really helpful. You can do this through the advanced options. 3. Set your FOV to 90. It makes it way easier to see what's going on around you without messing up the screen too much. You can do this through the developer console by typing in fov_desired 90. 4. Set your weapon FOV to 90. This means guns won't take up half the screen anymore, and you can do this in the developer console by typing viewmodel_fov 90. I don't know if you know any of this already and just prefer it how you have it. If so, I'm sorry for bothering you and you've probably gotten a bunch of comments about this. If not, I hope I helped to improve your experience with the game.
@ziksy64603 жыл бұрын
I haven't played an fps in a while. One of the reasons is because everything is a battle royale now. I guess in my old age of 24, I just don't get it. I mean...I get the appeal in theory. But I prefer games like TF2 because it's faster and you'll encounter an player at every corner. And if you die, you'll respawn in seconds.
@Thornskade3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I feel like the only person in the world who doesn't get the appeal of Battle Royales, though not many people I know play BRs either so I'm not entirely sure who does. I mean, I understand wanting to be the last survivor in a big group, but that's more of a gimmick that soon loses its appeal. I like seeing matches from beginning to end, I like being able to play and have an impact throughout those matches, and I don't want to camp areas for a long time without anything happening. Every BR I've played has long sections where you do nothing but loot, which is not very exciting, and hide and check your surroundings, which is also not very exciting, and then a few very short gunfire exchanges and that's it. You generally spend way more time walking around while picking up stuff while not witnessing anything of the actual game. You could be playing three matches for ten minutes each and each time you die at your first encounter so you basically wasted thirty minutes. I genuinely do not understand. For the record, I only played Apex and Warzone.

i ran into the problem of "getting good" at TF2 right as competitive mode became a graveyard. i started playing seriously very late, and by the time i could consistently top-score in casual matches, the botpocalypse was already underway. ghat dang, i wish i had taken the game more seriously in 2009.
@FBombFitzgerald3 жыл бұрын
I feel you man. In my case I never got good, but I also feel my TF2 decisions came 5 years too late (I started a TF2 channel in January just as the bots were getting out of control).
@pixavier97463 жыл бұрын
Both of you can still play in community servers, there are no bots there normally and there are a lot of servers with high-skilled players, like Uncletopia servers.
@FBombFitzgerald3 жыл бұрын
@@pixavier9746 I sometimes play in community servers, but they have a lot of logistical limitations. Creators.tf for example, usually only has one server that is full, and it's almost always completely full (24/24). The other 8 or so servers they have are all completely empty. So it can be hard to get into a game, and once you do you have very little if any choice on maps. There's also the wildcard of ping. Using creators.tf as an example again, I'm forced to play on East Coast servers no matter what, so I need to make the decision of: do I play on Valve Casual servers with good ping and map selection but maybe bots, or do I play on a community server where I can't get in with friends and I have bad ping and no map choice. So while I'm aware of community servers and use them sometimes, they also are not a magic bullet either.
@pixavier97463 жыл бұрын
@@FBombFitzgerald well thats true, but creators.tf is not the only server that exist so you should surely try other servers... Uncletopia, Skial, Faceit, Casual.tf, Potato.tf (for mvm), Rgl.gg (for competitive) etc... You can also use Teamwork.tf to find games quickly in communty servers for example, it is one my favorites community made tools of the game.
@OutlawedPoet3 жыл бұрын
community servers are completely free from bots but can be hard to find some good servers and the source engine server browser is difficult to navigate. on top of that, if you play in any region outside of the US and UK, good luck finding any server with people playing. but if you are in the US i'd give them a shot. skial has a batch of vanilla servers with an anti cheat set up, regular map rotation, and no changes to gameplay. uncle dane has his own servers called uncletopia which are vanilla TF2 but with some balance changes like no random crits and no random shotgun spread. unfortunately, all of his servers will be full a lot of the time so it can be difficult to get into one. then of cours,e you've got the various custom game modes which are still thriving, such as x10 and x100, vs saxton hale/freak fortress, deathrun, jailbreak, zombie survival, class wars, and more

The realization that there will never be another Team Fortress 2 just sent me into a depression. The early 2010's were the peak of my favorite hobby and it's likely never going to get as good again because no company seems to want to put in the effort to capture what made TF2 so special. Aside from everything mentioned in this video, the fact that it is completely open and mod-friendly plays another huge factor - it's a big AAA game yet it belongs to the community, and I probably spent more time playing TF2 mods and custom game modes than the official stuff. It feels like everything else has gone to shit since then, too. In 2005, would someone have told me that I'd be antagonizing Nintendo, Sony, EA, Activision etc., absolutely refuse to purchase a handheld device made by Nintendo, and that Blizzard, whose games I grew up with and loved would become... this utter monstrosity and be responsible for crap like Overwatch, I wouldn't have believed them. Yet here we are.
@randomcommentor3 жыл бұрын
Well, can agree that Tf2 is more in-depth than overwatch both character-wise and individual skill ceiling, but Overwatch's heavy inspiration from the moba genre works with its larger roster. Heroes are much simpler in design and can have more specific roles and weaknesses, which means that certain heroes are used on certain maps at certain times etc. Instead of introducing new weapons that change a class' playstyle, new heroes are added that have their own set of playstyles. Tf2 has a ton of weapons that also can make it a nightmare to balance. Anyway, great video, just feel like there's a weird tendency in the tf2 community to rile on Overwatch, probably stemmed by the past idiotic, overhyped trend of proclaiming it as the "new tf2". It never was, it never will be, and that was never the point.

I agree particularly on your point on the difference between tf2 game philosophy and modern game philosophy. I feel like with the growth of esports these games are trying to be sports, while tf2 when it was developed was trying to be a game. I also agree about how these modern games are flooded with so many different characters, many that cover a similar role. I feel like these modern characters eventually fall into the same cliches, mainly due to the fact that they don't often get well explored before a new character is released. You got your cocky but well meaning good guy, the virtuous/wise paragon, the clearly evil or amoral dark gruff ones. Now look at a character like Scout, at the surface he is a self assured cocky nescience that says witty one liners, as you dig deeper, you find a man who has insecurities about his lack of a father figure and is willing to put aside his pride with something he clearly struggles with even willing to say it to his peers.

To an outsider is very understandable to see why is OW compared to TF2 because of characters or modes or whatever. But really, if you played OW for a while you see overwatch has become a very different experience from TF2 to the point I'd say they can't compare gameplay wise anymore, they aren't even much similar now. In OW there's a huge chunk of characters old and new that are way too different from your TF2 experience, being hacked, tank characters, more healer variety, and a whole lot more of everything be it for better or worse. If anything, I'd say OW is more team based than TF2. OW is what happens when you try to put together LoL with TF2.

in a game called Paladins (yes I know the "overwatch ripoff") has roughly 50 and soon to be 51 chracters and a thing about this is how each character has three Major Ability changes (Talents) and 16 minor ability changes (Cards) that can be leveled through 1 to 5 as long as you retain a point balance, and you can have 5 (cards) this works because the time to kill in paladins is being driven up after being brought down too low. to supplement this there is no hero switching like overwatch this means you have to consider the team you are going, and stick with it, this doesn't mean you are completely unable to change how things are mid game due to the games in round item shop (its not as scary as it sounds) there are 16 items that in total most characters can use (except for guardian which works for characters with sheilds, if you don't have a shield you can't buy it) and only 3 items that one can buy can ever be completely buttfucking useless while others rise and fall depending on your team comp as well as the enemy's. This whole idea that you can't define a game by saying that "This game has (X) (too many/too little) characters" annoys me outside of that good review

Phenomenal video! Really glad the algorithm put this in my suggestions. TF2's still one of my favourite games of all time (even if I don't play it these days), so it's nice to see modern reviews. I look forward to bingeing your content, love your style of humour and how well-presented this is!

It just finally clicked. TF2 is in a MVM phase, literally Man vs. Machine.

Four gripes with this game: bots, melee hitreg, snipers, and the weapons unlock system.

i actually really like your idea for a review here, it forces you out of the typical wordage any reviewer would use and incentivizes creativity for getting your points across, very nice

14 years, and I have to hear something bad about the game that everyone agrees upon, not the devs or how valve is managing the game or not managing it

Bro I listened to my first music (Eminem and Weezer in 2014-16) while playing TF2 as a teenager just getting into PC games. This brought me back

Great video as always! I’m in the process of moving out as well and it’s definitely a scary thought being by myself and having to manage finances, hope the move goes well for you!

I have the exact same regret buddy. Honastly, this is a great video, and it highlights allmost all the reasons that I love the game, and why I still play it, but it just made me sad. I wish I would have known about tf2 like 5 years earlier, but now 1/3 players in a casual server are aimbots. I try to play community servers, but I end up getting destroyed by that one demo with like well over 10,000 kills on his strange gernade launcher, and I wish I could go back to those golden days a year ago when I was learning the basics of scout, attempting to get good at engi, and failing miserably at spy. I want the good old days back man.

Que for payload and you won't even see a bot for more than 30 seconds in a game, also don't que before noon, that's when most people have work/school or are sleeping so your only really queuing with the bots then, if you want to play before that look for a community server.
