A friend of mine made a small submarine with the exact opposite problems to this: 1) I had to cut a wall and a door to get enough drainage to be able to stop a fall (which would start from any breach). 2) Airlock is big enough to have just a tiny bit more vertical authority than the ballast (setting full up with a flooded airlock makes you sink slowly). 3) It has a ladder in the middle and front, but most of the front is divided with a full floor, ensuring you are getting flanked. 4) The airlock and and navigation are swapped, so you cannot shoot at the airlock intruders, and navigation gets flooded first. All in all it was pretty good. Even wore a safety harness instead of a diving suit most of the time with how easy it was to repair.

Jameskii if you like this you should play "Stormworks: Build and Rescue" you can also make your own boat, plane, submarine, helicopter on a gaint world or download a map or vehicle from the workshop to ride it. The game is 3D so and its pretty easy figure out, so I recommend anyone reading this to try the game out (maybe even join me while playing because I can't control a 100 Meter length submarine all by myself). :) Bonus: there is a "OceanGates" build in the workshop.

I should send you my "Amazoom" delivery ship. It has one seat, is 50% glass, and runs completely off battery power. Once the battery runs out you're dead in the water. There's no air, you simply wear a diving suit and hope the tank of oxygen in it lasts you the trip. It goes so fast that a small bump into a wall will make it explode into 1000 pieces - thanks to the extra canisters of explosives rigged up in it to ensure no employee can quit. It can only hold you and one piece of cargo (for same day delivery). The only thing the ship has in it's inventory box is a vial or two of cyanide and a single tank of oxygen. Shit was so fun trying to carry cargo to the next port without dying.
