I saw him back in 2014 at the House of Blues in Dallas, it was hands down the best show I've ever attended. The show theatrics and stage setup was on point, King sounded fantastic and the band were stellar. Really hope i can see them again after the Covid-19 pandemic blows over.

I highly recommend checking out full King Diamond albums in one sitting, a lot of them are concept albums, telling a single story. Abigail is a very good place to start and something that got me into King Diamond. Also King Diamond is over 63 years old, yet he still sounds as good as he did in the 70s/80s which is amazing.

I LOVE King Diamond. And yes, Abigail is the place to start (and finish really, it's that good). I've been looking for a better album for more than thirty years and have yet to find one. There is not a single bad King Diamond (or Mercyful Fate) song that is bad, just some that are slightly less awesome. That said, he has lost a bit of his old range, or at least it's not as reliable as it was. He can still hit all the notes in the studio, but there is a woman that backs him up during live performances on some of the songs.
@jima65454 жыл бұрын
Hard to believe but he sounds even better live than in studio
@mementomori19003 жыл бұрын
@@megadev9099 it's his wife, and she's been doing backup live vocals for over 10 years now, she is not hitting the high notes tho instead of him, she's really just doing doubles on some songs where he recorded two voices at the same time, and did some harmonizations, the main shit is still all King.

Thanks for reacting to that song! I do love this band. Fun facts about him. Those bones he has on his mic are real human femur bones. He also had a real human skull he used on stage that he named Melissa. It was stolen back from him back in the 80's. And, he is one of the few actual Satanists in metal, if you subscribe to such a thing. Again, thanks for doing my request. You should kick back one night and watch the whole concert video over a few beers. The stage show he has is amazing.

I've honestly never clicked on a KZbin video so quickly! I have been a huge fan of King Diamond since I was 13 way back in 1988; a friend traded me King Diamond's "Them" album, and the rest is history. The progressive technicality of the band, meshed with King's lyrics and vocal mastery, weave intricate tapestries of musical delight. Most of their offerings are concept albums; you really must listen to them in their entirety to fully appreciate the vision of the composers. Even if you don't react to anything off these releases I highly advise you to check out the albums Abigail, "Them", Conspiracy (which Sleepless Nights appears on and is the continuation/conclusion of the story told on "Them"), and The Eye. If you enjoyed this, you won't be disappointed. Most of King Diamond's tunes have multiple guitar solos (as they have 2 guitarists), and we all know how much you love shredding leads lol Stay heavy and long live the King \m/

"This band reminds me so much of Avatar" Fun fact : Savatage was almost known as Avatar (as they called themselves on their demos), but on the eve of their debut album's release, it is discovered another band exists with that name, and they were told, "change your name or get sued", lol. So, after an intense all-night session of brainstorming a new name, they decided to add the "S" at the beginning and change the "r" at the end to "ge"... "That sounds like something, right?" they hopefully asked each other, lol. If I were there I would have said HELL YES it does! It sounds like a mash-up of the words "savage" and "sabotage" - now THAT is metal! :-P I guess that's why their first album (and EP released shortly after containing the songs that were left off the album "cos it ran too long" for vinyl) was just a boring Beckett font, and not yet the incredible "zing-zagging-S" style we know today - they barely had time to come up wit ha new name, let alone a logo design, hah. I shared this little story cos I just finished watching all your Savatage reactions so the `Tage is still on my brain. :-P

I have seen this band live and it was at a multi-genre festival in Austin a handful of years ago. Strangely enough, KD had some last minute stage issues so they put him on the main hip-hop/pop stage instead of the "metal" stage so directly before his performance, Nas performed. (which was awesome, I love Illmatic and hip hop in general) Due to the unforeseen stage issues though, there were a LOT of confused hip hop heads in the audience!! Fucking 10/10 show and hilarious and multi-faceted (and somewhat confused) audience! Great reaction, subbed.

King Diamond is one of my favorite metal artists. Even my profile pic is based on his appearance. My screen name is based, also, on the character 'Abigail LeFay' from the album 'Abigail.' At the time I made this name it was for a game called 'Ultima Online' and back then I did not have access to the lyrics sheet for the songs on the album so I mis-heard the name as 'LeVey' and wound up using that name instead. Either way.. it's all based off of King Diamond's works lol.
