Today, I wanted to talk about some experiences that have impacted my life, specifically some situations that broke down my sense of self and my confidence. I gained a lot from those experiences, and learned how to demand respect and rebuild myself, learning to be more assertive and comfortable with negative criticism. Thank you all for your lovely letters and comments, I appreciate all of them even though I am not always able to reply.

(I added honey, nutmeg and baked it as an experiment, it was yummy! I have used ricotta and goats cheese instead too.)
Dandelion roots are very spicy and usually, I find, not very tasty. But if you mince it very well and roast it with honey, I like to add it to salads and sandwiches for added benefits. Here are some ideas: commonsensehome.com/harvestin...

I try to not let painful experiences stand in the way of making progress and taking control of my story. After experiencing some very damaging and abusive relationships in my late teens, I seek to reach out to others who are potentially dealing with similar situations, presently or in the past. Your age, gender, race, spiritual/religious beliefs, is never - and will never - be a valid reason for someone to treat you with anything less than respect. I believe people who have ill intentions towards others are often very hurt themselves. They have forgotten, or have never been taught, to properly love other humans. Sometimes they come to a point where they wish to heal their hearts, and sometimes they don’t. But that is their burden to bear, not yours.

My problem is the OPPOSITE ;) People complained through my growing up years that my being ADHD was a pain--I was loud and like can't even hold a conversation--like even now LOL. So your so called 'nervousness' I see as STRENGTH I would not even call it nervousness but a quiet peace and calm. The only person(s) who related to me were professors and my advisor. Even today (as you can tell from my repsonses) is slip shot to the point. BUT I am who I am --as for relationships I can't even hold them down not because of them but me LOL --think I do better with dogs in any event you rock ok? As for my ADHD as my graduate advisor says, HEY you are gifted bright who cares what they think go change the world with your intellect later keep rocking

I wish I'd learned it earlier, as well. Or, given myself permission to stand up for myself and to expect more from people and from life. Sadly, I was conditioned, early on, even expected, to settle for whatever life threw me, and to be happy about it. So, that's what I did. The 'grin & bear it' mentality. I sure put up with a lot, for a long time, before I realized it was ok to expect respect. So glad she learned it earlier... So glad we learned it, if later in life. Everyone deserves respect. Must expect it!

Oooohh that part about running into those wicked souls... I recently had an experience like that too. I blindly put my trust into someone and ended up with a shattered heart and equally shattered trust in humanity. I truly thought that if you were kind to others, they would be kind in return. But sadly, not all people are that way. It's really unfortunate. :( I'm sorry that you've had similar experiences in the past. But it is so inspiring that you've found yourself a genuine gem of a human to enjoy life with. Congratulations to you both. :) Thank you for sharing your story. Dandelion is one of the best things you could eat. Especially if you have bad people around you or bad thoughts, they help reducing the heat of a flaming body. You need to balance them with something warming, so maybe a dandelion warm tea with a little lemon.

I found mine again one day. What I realized after several years of staying stuck is that I actually was perfectly beautiful and fine and always was. I lost nothing, he took nothing. I just forgot that when he did what he did. Realizing our own inherent value and being it and expressing is all we are really here for.

@The Rockall Times please don't spread bs. You can easily google the definition of an empath: The term empath comes from empathy, which is the ability to understand the experiences and feelings of others outside of your own perspective. As an empath, you take things a step further. You actually sense and feel emotions as if they’re part of your own experience. In other words, someone else’s pain and happiness become your pain and happiness. Simple.

Very relatable video. As a recovering person, who used to be very naive, trusting, believing in the best in people, too nice - I too have attracted people who took advantage of it throughout my life. I've only started to finally see this pattern so clearly well into my late 30s. In my early 40s now, I had to build a cautious backbone and I too still can't believe people would just be unkind and take advantage of kind souls. I will probably never understand it.

These were my thoughts some time ago when I was alone with myself thinking about life: Life… Life is about sadness, learning from it and how to cope with it. Life is about joy and happiness, learning from it and share it. Life is about emotions, learning from it and deal with it. Life is about making mistakes, learning from it and move on with better knowledge. Life is about making decisions, learning from it and becoming better at it. Life is about caring for others, learning from it and being a better human being. Life is about ups and downs, learning from it, adapt and overcome. Life is about believing in yourself, learning from it and evolve. Life is about taking a moment to contemplate your life, why you live, how you live and how you can improve it… Enjoy your life while you can…, preferably with someone you love.

Don't give that power to other people. Own it. Who are they to judge and criticize anyway, flawed humans themselves who refuse to look inward but project their negativity onto others. Its usually out of pain or self-loathing that people hurt others. I agree with you, will never understand the unkindness but I know where it comes from at least. You are probably an INFJ Empath like myself. People love to hate those at peace because they themselves don't posess it. That's what I found in my growing up. The world needs more people like you. Shine on girl!

Some people don’t understand people who have a creative and intelligent mind. For example just to name a very few: Jane Austin, Ernest Hemingway, Michelle Basquiat were considered odd, but yet their creative contribution in the arts left a great legacy to literature and the arts. Don’t change you are perfect just the way you are.

I've learned to expect people, especially someone I'm romantically involved with, to "put their money where their mouth is". Meaning, All those nice words and apologies and promises to do better don't mean anything if they don't change. If everything still stays the same. And, think of this... your fiance was probably on his BEST behavior while you two were engaged! Imagine how bad it might have gotten after you were married!. Even if we realize a relationship isn't and will never give us what we want and need, it still hurts to end it. We mourn for the dreams we had for the future. Then we're grateful we realized the truth before it was too late. I think you needed to end that engagement because there is someone so much more wonderful and caring and kind waiting for you. I'm praying for that for you! Love and Light.

Your story gives me hope. I am a single mom raising my daughter. When I was young, I had a very naive and unrealistic view about marriage. I thought for a marriage to work I just had to swallow and suppressed myself... and it broke me within. Eventually I learned to leave a very emotionally abusive relationship and my ex-husband never made an effort to support or care for our only daughter. With the help of my family I have more or less moved on. Hearing other people's stories gives me quiet hope that eventually my life... hard as it may be at times... it will get better.

In fact as I grow older I wish to spend even more time with them. To learn all I can. I think when you've had a loving family and a childhood where you got a glimpse of true unconditional love, you subconsciously long for that same thing in adult life. We want to map that setup, because it worked. The best thing in my opinion to do is to be kind with ourselves. We are on a journey to know more about ourselves.
