@@ninja123425 Sending sources isn't the same as asking a comedian for ammo. The issue with the wording is that the email writer is looking for Bill Burr's zinger one-liners about the issue and isn't trying to make a genuine argument against public breast feeding. The irony being that Bill doesn't agree with the email writer. He just went off on a tangent about feminists.

I've never understood grown-ups who feel uncomfortable around a woman breastfeeding. It's literally teenage insecurity and/or squeamishness that you should've got over by your mid-20s at the very, very latest. If you still have those feelings you should work on them - for your own benefit - and if you go around slating women that breastfeed in public you can rightly expect a backlash.

@philorgneopolotin87623 жыл бұрын
Shane no that’s not even close to what he said? He didn’t say “go hide in a bathroom”, he said to “somewhat cover up”. Meaning if you do have to breastfeed in public, just throw your shirt, a coat, a scarf, your husband’s jacket, or ANYTHING just to make it seem like your making an effort to hide it. I’m not even on his side but your distorting his opinion in order to belittle his argument. It annoys me to even see someone take a loud phone call in a quiet place, but if that person would half whisper or even make it seem like he’s making an effort to be quiet, then I’d have no problem with him. It’s just the effort of doing literally ANYTHING to accommodate the people whom you know might not be fully comfortable with it, that’s all you have to do. Don’t hide or go out of your way to fully hide it, but make a tiny bit of effort to make it seem like you’re trying
@MrBritishNinja3 жыл бұрын
@@philorgneopolotin8762 he also said "somewhat away from public view". This is an airport waiting area. By design it's very public and visible. Should she stand in a corner? When really young, old or disabled people do something gross (within reason), everyone else should just take it in stride. Old people fart. Disabled people drool. It sucks, but it happens.
@philorgneopolotin87623 жыл бұрын
Shane he said “OR somewhere away from public view”. Also if I just put my hand over my face, my face is now “away from public view” meaning no one can see it, and no one can “view” it, so just putting a hand over or a scarf would be away from public view. Also, that’s a pretty big stretch to make. Elderly people cannot help farting or drooling; if a pregnant women just spontaneously starting producing breast milk randomly and couldn’t stop excreting it, then yeah she has no responsibility to stop it. But you choose when you breastfeed, and all it’d take would be the absolute slightest effort of putting anything over the nipple to show that you’re at least doing something. That would placate 99% of people. Only complete assholes would care at that point

The problem here is female in-group preference. The issue of breastfeeding is about neutral in my most humble opinion. Most guys don't really care, and most women do it subtly so we don't all have to watch. However, if you listen to Nia, you get to hear how women defend each other, and you'll understand that you'll never get defended like this from women when it's a male issue. They will be silent while feminists go around and claim all men are abusers, while they harass men for man-spreding, and even berate men for helping with their mansplaining. Nia is always about what she can get out of a situation.

Why does public breastfeeding piss him off? I'm so confused by this argument because at times he seems to agree it's fine, but then also describes it as indecent. Then he goes off on a tangent about the horrors of Feminism which does not seem relevant at all. Babies need to be fed and I don't see how breastfeeding in public is feminist as opposed to just parenting. There are certainly areas of society in which men are being disenfranchised, but I'm missing the connection to breastfeeding. This conversation was really weird
@JaBarge3037 жыл бұрын
Maya Finch I agree! I feel like these annoying anti-feminism are more vocal and now way worse than feminists are
@mugenpm99797 жыл бұрын
His argument is you don't see women breastfeeding in public often, and if they aren't covering, most men have the natural response is to be disgusted by it. But many women try to make you feel bad for it or feel bad for not accepting it immediately and you are the problem or you are the bad guy for having feelings that I don't approve of/agree with, and Bill's argument is: Its fine to feel uncomfortable about something or to not like seeing something, it doesn't make you a bad guy for not being totally accepting of something you rarely, if ever, see. He isn't saying you should go over and punch the baby or something, but its fine to feel uncomfortable about something new or different.
@elenadawes26157 жыл бұрын
X0dus the problem with that is most people aren't mature enough to simply have that natural reaction and then move on with their lives. They convert that initial emotion into an opinion and next thing you know they're trying to enforce it. The whole thing ends up being overdramatised and before you know it what started off as "oh that made me uncomfortable for second" becomes "YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO THAT ANYMORE". It's really silly
@elenadawes26157 жыл бұрын
And Nia isn't arguing that the natural response is wrong, she's saying overall just because you have that natural response it doesn't mean it should be used to dictate how those mothers feed their babies. Nia and Bill are kind of going in circles here bc Bill goes off on random tangents about feminism and Nia doesn't properly articulate her argument enough but in the end they sound like they actually believe the same thing

Please DO take into account other peoples feelings, if it is not at the cost of your baby's needs. If it cannot be handled it IS fair game
@muskokamike1275 жыл бұрын
Notice how Nia gets more upset at the words the guy uses instead of his actual point? 'YOU DON'T NEED AMMUNITION" Nia, that's what guys say when we ask for some moral support. A baby's hunger takes priority over an adult's discomfort.
@ellbennet5 жыл бұрын
@Chardelle Breatfeeding can be very difficult and you can't just use the bottle if it means the baby can develop the wrong technic when trying to eat. I never used a bottle and I fed my child in public but no one had a problem. Maybe because I live in Sweden where natural things as feeding a baby is seen as natural and perfectly fine to do whenever the baby is hungry. To people who don't like it: Just look away because your silly discomfort isn't more important than feeding a hungry baby.

Completely different. You EXPECT to see breasts being flashed at Mardi Gras. You DON'T EXPECT to see breasts when walking to your gate with a cinnabon. Part of what makes it uncomfortable is the fact that you don't expect it. Bill is on point. If you're allowed to breastfeed in public and not feel any shame (which you shouldn't), then anyone who reacts the way they naturally would shouldn't feel any shame either.

I don't want to start a comment fight, but I feel like I should point out that breastfeeding and defecating are nothing alike. Feces is full of bacteria and so it contains potentially harmful pathogens that can cause sickness or infection. After touching it, hands need to be thoroughly washed. That's why we only allow people to defecate in bathrooms. It's a basic public health issue -- without proper sewage disposal, it poses a huge public health hazard. By contrast, breast milk is often the primary source of nutrients, proteins and sugars for newborns and infants, especially before they are able to consume solid foods. Breast milk is an antibacterial, antimicrobial substance that does not cause sickness or infection (and has even been shown to actively kill infections). After touching it, hands do not need to be washed. So there are perfectly sensible reasons why mothers are allowed to breastfeed in public (especially given the importance/urgency of feeding a newborn and the inconvenience of having to find a private place to do it) ... whereas the rest of us are not allowed to defecate in public. People are allowed to be disgusted by whatever they want, but it's not hard to understand why someone would be upset by the comparison of breastfeeding to shitting. As for 'man-spreading', a lot of us can't help it. You should be allowed to sit however you like (except if you're taking up more than one seat on the bus or whatever )
@Y2JLionHeart7 жыл бұрын
David Stewart The point was about being attracted to breasts and asses. Most dudes don't want to see someone shitting, even if they like the look of her ass. That's where the comparison ends. It is a decent comparison, but it doesn't prevent a reasonable person from feeling that they are still different for the reasons you stated. Bill is a perfect example.
@davidstewart89067 жыл бұрын
Y2JLionHeart That's fair enough. I still don't think the comparison makes any sense, though. The disgust that we all naturally feel at the sight of feces is effectively an innate deterrent against sickness and infection. There is a threshold level of discomfort that humans naturally feel about excreting any bodily waste, because humans are biologically primed to avoid sickness/viruses/bacteria. But breastmilk is not waste. It contains immunologic agents to protect against bacteria, viruses and even parasites. My point is that human beings don't respond with the same level of innate disgust to breastfeeding as they do to other bodily excretions ... because there's an evolutionary imperative for humans to encourage it. Breastfeeding has been essential to the survival of the species for centuries/millennia and today is still the biologically normal way to feed a human infant. Further, breastfeeding provides a model for future mother/baby dyads to be familiar with normal means of infant feeding, we learn by seeing. I don't want to belabor the point, but I think science is relevant here
@Y2JLionHeart7 жыл бұрын
David Stewart I agree with you. I think the overall point is the context. I can't ogle a woman who is breast feeding (unless she's in a relationship with me 😈), because in that context it isn't appropriate to me. A woman showing her tits on Bourbon Street is a totally different context. You're exactly right about the natural aversion to shit and piss. Except for people who are into scat and piss videos, which is gross in my opinion.
@spacecitygta81687 жыл бұрын
David Stewart what he meant was that men find women's ass and tits attractive but they both serve a natural purpose. so we might as well have sex in public since there are no bacteria/ feces involved?
@davidstewart89067 жыл бұрын
space city GTA No, I understand. But again the comparison doesn't withstand scrutiny. Sex in public is a public heath hazard. Semen and vaginal fluid can carry known pathogens, And casual and unprotected sex is recognized in furthering the spread of disease. While sex is necessary for the procreation of the species, public sex acts can easily be postponed (whereas feeding a newborn often cannot be postponed) and are not essential for caring or protecting the young of the species. Look, again, you're free to be disgusted by whatever you want, but this is a very serious issue. The World Health Organisation insists that all mothers should offer babies only breast milk until the age of six months. Breastfed infants suffer fewer childhood diseases such as respiratory and ear infections, diarrhoea and eczema; and as adults, they are less likely to become obese and therefore enjoy a lower chance of developing diabetes. Countries that discourage public breastfeeding (like France and England) tend to have significantly lower rates of breastfeeding than countries that actively encourage it. So again you're welcome to be disgusted by it, but we have to be careful that we're not discouraging women from breastfeeding. Encouraging public breastfeeding is an important way of encouraging breastfeeding in general. This is not just a debate between feminists and anti-feminists, or between some idiot kid and his idiot girlfriend ... this is a very serious issue with serious consequences

Sexualized breasts are different than mothers' breasts in public because of one word: "intimacy." The act of breastfeeding is too intimate and "special" to be so casually displayed. That's where the discomfort stems from. I think there's also a sense of "who does she think she is? The first woman to ever have a baby? We get it, lady." Other moms make it work, and guess what... if you're so overwhelmed that you can't go to the store, mall, airport, restaurant, etc. without having to feed your crying baby by whipping out your breast... maybe you shouldn't be going out. You just had a baby... stay home and feed it... OR... pack a feeding blanket, and/or a bottle. What's so important that you can't work your errands and social life around the baby's feeding schedule for a few months?? I don't buy it. PS - I have 2 children who were breastfed, but never in public.
