Yes, Sexton was a giant pain in the arse. But there’s a BIG difference between sledging during a game and then having the class, and respect of rugby values, to shake hands at the final whistle and go have a beer. Ioane was completely classless in doing what he did AFTER the final whistle and in the circumstances in which he did it. Had he said what he said with two mins to go and then shook Sexton’s hand after the final whistle, then no one would have cared.

Here's something to consider, regarding every celebrity book ever written : The Publisher wants to sell, baby, sell, so if it's not already in there, the 'author' will have to include it, even if it means either include a truthful , but sensitive, incident, the same, but embellishing the truth a 'bit', or just an outright lie - these all happen, and are par for the course, for every celebrity book. It requires discernment by the reader, whether or not to accept everything as absolute fact, and not being skeptical about 'some' claims. Anything remotely controversial, in any celebrity book, should always be taken with a grain of salt and put on a shelf - it may or not be truth. So amazingly almost everyone accepts it as incontrovertible truth. It's b.s... probably.

I think the important context that is missing in the discussion of Ioane’s sledging is that Fosters All Black’s for 3 years prior to that match were being told they were not good enough, not worthy of the legacy. They were told they had no chance of winning the world cup, yet came within 2 points of winning it. They were carrying a huge amount of emotion in that Ireland match, no less than anyone in an Ireland shirt.

They abused the Irish Captain, Vice Captain and Irish spectators twice. The last is citable misconduct. Foster and Cane doubled down on it and supported Ioane hours later. Sexton harranged ref Peyper and was rightly cited and banned for Misconduct (reg 18.4). Ioane abusing the Irish crowd after the match in Paris is also misconduct under this regulation. Apart from this one incident I am unaware of any others where Sexton abused players after the final whistle. You said he abused players his whole career. It looks like you invented that. The principle of respect is embedded in Rugby and in particular is fundamental to International rugby. National Unions are responsible and accountable for respect by their players. Banter and psyching out opponents is great, but a mans true character is recognising when to employ a bit of 's**thousery' Rieko in my opinion knew he was 'below the belt' when you win you show a bit of humility, Rieko will regret that as he matures.

To have a go at a player during the game is one thing. That’s fair game and just a bit of banter but for Ioane to say those exact words to a legend of the game with over 120 international caps and it being his last ever game in which he lost you don’t say those kind of things then. Sexton didn’t say anything to him or any of his teammates so why have a go at him? At the end of the day, Sexton wont lose any sleep over it because he’s achieved everything he’s wanted to. Ioane has a lot to learn in terms of respect and humility. The New Zealanders along with the South Africans are just agitated and disgruntled because Ireland now get in their faces & beat them & humble them regularly and they see how strong Irish rugby has gotten & becoming and they don’t like it so they show their true colours with comments like Ioanes etc. Us Irish love it. Keep it coming! 😂🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪☘️💪🏻

Firstly obviously Johnny didn't achieve everything he wanted to cause he wanted to win the world cup. Secondly, emotions are high in a game, and sexton is very unlikable I would say on and off the pitch, he has never been a classy act he has and always will be a wingebag. He is literally winging in his book now. Yes what Ioane said was rude, but Johnny isn't man enough to just take it on the chin and move on( showing strength, cause right now it feels like he is a toddler calling his mom about another kid who called him a name)

@@JTAIT-b7g Sexton was a bigger part of Ireland's wins than Ioane was of NZ's. Plus Sexton's multiple European cup successes aren't really something Reiko has. Modern iteration of Super Rugby just doesn't cut the standard of the Champions cup. Plus it's not just about stats on a page. Sexton was an intrinsic player, one of the best ever for his country.
