Greatest live band ever. At their peak they were simply astounding.

Beyond astounding a n d one of the first groups, along with The Moodys, to incorporate symphonic music. So.many of the Who's songs work with full orchestra.

@ChuckHackney Жыл бұрын
@johnphillipsjr7238 let's just say one of the greatest because music is subjective. But I will say this, when you pair many of their songs with symphonic or orchestral music, it does put their sound into another astral plain. Peace and Hugs from NC

The Who recorded this performance at Shepperton Studios in the UK. In the studio next door, the movie "Alien" was being filmed. The cast and crew of the film paused working on the movie and went over to watch The Who perform in the studio next to theirs. They liked the laser show so much towards the end of Won't Get Fooled Again, they borrowed the laser gear from The Who and used it in the movie Alien. So the next time you watch Alien, keep an eye out for The Who's lasers as the aliens prowl and attack!

This video really captures Pete Townsend on guitar. Man he really brought it that night . Moon on the drums is usually the main attraction and rightly so but I think Pete is just so great in that live show that all your focus is on him . John Entwistle didn't hop around much while playing bass because most of the time he was doing god tier stuff which required tremendous concentration. He plays the base a lot like a lead guitar which lends to the incredible sound density three players could pump out on stage. They were incredible musicians.

You might want to watch, and perhaps react to the video of their set at the concert for N.Y. following 9/11-2001, they were much older but still going strong-the drummer here (Keith Moon) had of course passed away long before. I just went back to watch it again....The emotions for me are almost as strong and raw as they were then, watching people holding up pictures of lost loved ones, and watching the heroes in and out of uniform in the crowd still got my eyes damp in the corners. I was on my way to work, and turning on my car radio that Sept. morn I heard the report of the 2nd tower being hit as it happened. My niece's husband saw the hits in the mirror of a truck as he tried to drive out of the area after a delivery he was a bit late getting home. I worked in security and as a fire inspector for a large multinational in Mass., at least one of our people spent some time working in the recovery efforts in NY. when I arrived at work that day our manager ( bless him !) sent me straight to a conference room with a large screen playing the live coverage, where all the employees at that location were gathered-his first words to me were"Do you know what's happening ?"-I answered "Yes we are at war "-he guessed I was right. Everyone stayed watching for a couple hours, as he had gotten the area locked down and secured, later we went out to do some checks and opened up a couple entrances to take care of a few things, then before my day was half over he told us to lock the place back up as we did at night, and go home to our families, as history was being made and that's where we belonged. It was a massive privilege to work with, and for people like that for 30 years. Watching that set I was thinking that they had one heck of a drummer in that one, then learned from a recent comment that the drummer just happened to be none other than the son of Ringo Starr-no wonder! This is a bit long winded-just the ramblings of an old phart I guess...

The dude on Drums is where Animal, the muppet show drummer comes from, and when you think of HARD HARD partying Rock stars smashing up Hotels its him, or driving a Rolls Royce into a swimming Pool is him. Or dancing on an air conditioning unit outside the Hotel window high high up the Hotel, or tons of drugs. He made himself go blind once from drugs! As for drumming.... he's regarded as the best ever. Best human to ever play drums. Always number 1 or at least 2 after John Bohnam from Led Zeppelin for everyone. They reckon he was so good cos, although not diagnosed at the time, they think he had Aspergers or summink. He was MENTAL. Drummer of Drummers.

It's also about the failures of the promises of the counter culture movement of the 60's, which made it's own promises. By the time Townshend wrote this the cultural introspection on the self and inner change had started to dominate. Like most great Townshend songs there are always multiple meanings and levels. He was an inscrutable bastard sometimes. ;)
