It is dead. Because they don't do anything for the franchise. Most people who know who Ness and Lucas are don't even know them for the games or haven't even played them. At this point Mother is pretty much held alive by people who like the game and Ness and Lucas bring consistent characters in smash

The issue with F-Zero at this point is that it’s competing with Mario Kart for Nintendo fans that want a racing game. It appeals to a much more niche market and Nintendo has always been about making stuff that will sell to the most people. Hopefully they reconsider once they see how popular F-Zero 99 has been, but I think it’s just competing with themselves at this point with MK so mainstream
