I do all the maintainance on my 986 S. I have saved over $17000 in labor in 5 years of ownership.

Doing maintenance yourself pays for itself quickly. Plus you get to spend a bit more time with your Porsche. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience.

Owned a 981 (2013) boxster for a bit under 3 years. One thing broke (hvac fan speed regulator - behind the glove box - $400), couple of maintenance items (btw - at an independent- my oil service was $250) and my total cost of ownership (excluding gas) was about $7,000 for repair/maintenance/depreciation for the 32 months I owned it. If someone told me I’d drive the boxster for 32 months and just need to pay for gas and otherwise hand someone $218/month for as long as I owned it, I’d take that deal.

How's the road/wind noise on your boxster with the top up? It's the sole factor making me decide between a Boxster and a Cayman

reliability record is fine, doesn’t make good clicks though. Data source is JD Power. If you buy and older performance car make sure you get a professional inspection first and that all the necessary replacements and precautionary changes have already been done. This halls to ensure happy motoring. If you don’t buy wisely, and you go for a cheap performance car, any car in fact and you’ll be digging deeply

Overall Porsche is reliable especially when you compare them to other high-end sports car makers. The point of this video wasn’t to say that they are unreliable, but more to say make sure you have some cash left over after your Porsche purchase in case you need to pay for things. As you said a pre-purchase inspection can save you a lot of money otherwise a cheap Porsche can often be a more expensive Porsche all things considered. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

Can you tell me how much you spend on maintaining that boxter yearly. Or how much is good idea to put aside monthly for maintenance cost savings.

I did a video about what the Boxster cost me over five years of ownership. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fF7JmYGvhbyfhtk Now the cost will be much more if you have someone else do the work, but I would have at least $2,000 set asside for things that might come up that are a bit more expensive. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

I'm waiting for some youtuber to release the "easy hack" on removing the oil filter on the 718. . .
@OurRideLife6 ай бұрын
That one is a lot more difficult than something like the 986 or 987. I personally like this method to make it a bit easier. www.718forum.com/threads/cayman-with-pdk-engine-oil-filter-removal-new-method.22603/ Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

To be fair if I want a reliable car buy a Honda or Nissan, Porsche has a rich pedigree and history of motorsports, sports car is not about reliability rather performance/ drive. Porsche does cost money globally to keep them on the road, I paid £4k for two years ownership of a base 987.2, we have to factor in running costs before buying a Porsche or be prepared to do rudimentary maintenance.

Very good points. Porsches do tend to be more reliable than other high-end sports cars, but comparing a sports car to a Honda Civic for reliability isn’t fair. As you said you need to factor in running costs before a purchase and to decide if you will do routine maintenance yourself or at a shop. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience.

Not as much as I paid in two years of ownership and 13k (8k miles) 250€ oil change 1000€ maintenance 150€ license 500€ insurance 200€ tax 100€ Porsche Classic Card -> 2300€ Excluding gas and I need new tires next year 😅

I have a 981 BS and its market value is higher than the price I bought it and I have had ZERO faults. Oil change £500 only if you are a mug. and 2024 Most Dependable Car Model Porsche 718

Why do German cars keep having a solid reliability reputation when so many beemers, Benz’s and Porsches keep having issues?
@OurRideLife6 ай бұрын
Well if you pay the right people enough money… But in fairness Porsches tend to be very reliable when comparde to other high-end sports cars. Of course there are some years that are better than others and you need to keep up on the needed maintenance. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

Haven’t even watched this video but I am so glad I sold the money pit Boxster I had. It was nothing but issues after issues.. quality german engineering? 😂
@OurRideLife6 ай бұрын
Sometimes it’s hit and miss. I daily drove a Boxster for six years and it was very dependable and hardly cost anything to keep on the road. However, I know some folks that have had a ton of issues, so depends on a number of factors. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
