Great demo! It's always humorous how guitar players pick every last thing apart with "tube" comparisons... but in the end, the listener has no idea how much you paid, or how boutique an expensive tube amp is, or where you recorded it, and on and on. We spend a lot of time and money impressing our hoi polloi selves on how good something sounds. Meanwhile, it's the song people relate to, as they have no idea that you just turned on a flanger in a special section of the song. :) Sounded great with the amp, sounded great with the GX-100! I'd buy it, and my tube amps won't mind. It's great to make new sounds, we already have the old tried and true sounds to fall back on whenever you need them. Great song!

Thanks for sharing! This is how a real demo is done - a concrete example with a song in need of a clean but something crunchy Fender amp/guitar sound. So again you get a clear and concrete step-by-step explanation of the process of recording with the device in question. All parameters, alternatives, and decisions are explained and presented visually, orally, and in audio for your convenience. So now after this clip you, as an attentive viewer, should have no problems getting eg. Keith Richard's Guitar sound in "Start Me Up" or in Jimmy Hendrix's "Little Wing" etc. Now it is only a matter of will for those who own this product to experiment and find their own combination of amplifiers, effects, etc.

Pretty darn close to the real thing. To my ears, I noticed that (very, very subtle) the real amp recording provided more clarity and space as if the gtr was better placed in the mix. I'm not sure whether you could tweak the reverb/eq or the parallel processing (as Sheps likes to do in his mixes) to compensate. But very impressive. I'm definitely sold on upgrading my gear to the GX-100. It's a must have as a studio recording artist. Thank you for a great video.

Very impressive. Cheers Paul! I subscribed recently because you really do a great job of presenting new products. Last year I bought a Line 6 Pod Go . It's just not doing it for for me. So much so that I went back to my old Boss GT-8 which (I.M.H.O.) sounds better. This GX-100 seems to be a greatly improved and modernized version of the GT-8. I work a single most of the time with tracks. So, as it's time to upgrade, this seems to be my best option. I recently used my GT-8 at a band gig running into the fx return on my amp and it sounded really great. So I'm very sure the GX-100 will be even better after watching this video. I also got a leg up on how to use it. Thank you for all you do. BTW you're a great player.

I've been coin tossing for a while between Line 6 HX (second hand), Line 6 POD GO and the GX-100. I also just watched a demo on Andertons TV, and was leaning to the GX, but your video has pushed me right there 100%. The ability as well to use the C1 button to switch between two different amp/cab setups is immense, and as I play mostly PF covers, the ability to switch from a standard (Hi-Watt-like) DG tone to a Leslie Rotary-like cab on the fly would just make such a difference (think Comfortably Numb solos 1 and 2 for example). Thanks for making my mind up, and I have liked and subscribed. The track you used in the video sounds great too.

Both versions sounds fantastic, would be hard pressed to say one was better than the other, just different. It seemee to me that initially you were using the touch screen a lot, but as you got into it you were editing more with the physical controls. I know there's a lot of criticism of the worl flow on the gt1000 models, it didn't take me long to really get to grips with the unit and know exactly where anything i might want to access is, quickly and efficiently. I think I'll stick with the gt1000, monster unit, sounds killer to my ears. Anyway, great sounding track and video. I'll be looking forward to the others you've mentioned will be coming out soon.

@IamMusicNerd2 жыл бұрын
I’m definitely tempted to get one. I wish it had more on/off toggle buttons for every effect like the GT1000 has, but I can’t justify spending an extra $500 for that one extra thing I want. I have a GT-1 and love it, but it doesn’t have the extra effects loops jacks that the GX has. So the GX is probably the best of both worlds for me. (I have a Helix also, but the Boss units sound closer to the original amps/pedals to my ears)

Thanks Paul ! The info you share is incredible and the means you deliver it is excellent. Question: Have you tried to integrate the GX-100 with a Katana for amp channel/patch switching and increasing (taking advantage of) the signal chain (through the effects loop) of the Katana? Cheers.
@accentontheoff Жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, another question, probably stupid. But before that, I did get the GX-100, and really like it so far, and your videos were one of the big reasons. So, thanks! Just wondering though - while recording from the line outs to an audio interface, does the sample rate matter. The GX-100 has a sample rate of 48 kHz, so should I set the interface and DAW to to 48 kHz or is the line out sending an audio / wav signal in which case it doesn't matter, and I can set the interface / DAW at any sample rate I like. Thanks in advance!

Great demo Paul. I hear the clean tone is better than the clean in the Katana so the AIRD tech must be better than the TubeLogic thing in the Katana. But it still has the same problem I hear with most modelers... the attack is lacking something for me. Your Matchless has a chime on the attack that's lacking here. I hear the same difference with my new Revv Dynamis compared to my Katana MKII head in the same cabinet. General EQ can be matched but the attack of the Kat is really not doing the same as the Dynamis or my old Fender Twin. The Kat's Clean channel attack is either deader or if you push the treble or presence it just becomes ice picky. Both my Dynamis and my old Twin as well as your Matchless have a bell-like chime on the nose of the note that modellers have a real hard time replicating. It's hard to describe for me but I hear the difference clearly. In the room, between my Kat head and my Dynamis, it's truly night and day. Not even close. And it's really not just an EQ thing. In the recorded tone here, it's closer, much closer than I expected in fact but still not quite there for me.
@TheStudioRats2 жыл бұрын
I always prefer real tube amps like you Stephane, but the boss GX-100 is getting so close and its an 8th of the price of the Matchless
@MrETS682 жыл бұрын
Agree, the Matchless is still superior as most tube amps are, but GX100 have some very good clean tones and the feel is a lot better than my Helix…. Running my Jmp 1 in the loop makes it a joy to play on….
@StephaneBergeronPixelyzed2 жыл бұрын
@@TheStudioRats I understand... modeling is getting closer every year and I hear you on price, The Dynamis is 5 times the price of my Kat MKII head and it's 40 watts (switchable to 7 watts). I know I'm privileged to be able to afford it but I work hard for my money and music gear is my one luxury. This great smaller tube head was worth it for me. It's not typical of other Revv amps that cater to heavier music than what we play (we play neo-prog and have a Marillion tribute band project too). So searing Gilmourish leads as well as classic rock style heavy chording are part of what I play as well as pristine Fenderish clean tones and the Dynamis delivers both amazingly well. The heavier gain tones (lead and rhythm) are so much more harmonically rich than anything I've ever been able to coax out of my Kat head and much easier to get to as well. I love some of the modeling plugins I use in recording (especially Scuffham Amps S-Gear) but most of the time and especially live, my tube amp and 4x12 just sound and feel better. I played a gig with the Kat last September and we played the same set last Saturday (with some of the same people in attendance) but I had the Dynamis that time. I never had as many compliments on my tone as I had Saturday and coming from non-musicians too. Many could actually hear the difference. And I played the Kat through the same cab both times. In any case, love your videos man. Keep up the good work!
