LYRICS: VERSE 1 There's a shape in the shadows There’s a chill in the air But he won't let you get rattled You won't know that he’s there There's no way to do battle when you're caught unaware One blink and he'll be gone and you’ll be dead in your chair Or was he even there? Can you even prepare? For a reckoning a second into catching the glare Of a barrel when the bullets already in the air Or the chemicals already have your vision impaired As you try to place the face of that sommelier When you're gonna win the race but find the brakes aren't there On a knife's edge placed between the fumes and the flare That last breath with a glove in your hair He’s a master of disguise He's an artist with a knife. He will catch you by surprise Just a quack and you ignite There's no faster a demise Were you happy with your life? ‘Cause it didn't have the time Left to flash before your eyes CHORUS No one ever recalls the second They first come across 47 Because before you've drawn a breath in 47’s got you on the floor, forgetting If you only could pause a second Can’t stall destiny halt what's meant to be No protection we all get reckoned the Cause of death will be 47 VERSE 2 You can tighten violence By refining the appliance of it Open up your eyes to find the sight of an appliance dropping Right into the bath without a chance to even try and stop it Blur behind the curtain and it’s curtains on your crime biopic The same as yesterday? Oh, there's a new chef today I'm sure he can prepare that very rare fish in that special way Also we can't find the guy we hired just to test your plates Plus all of your henchmen went and left to go investigate The sound of a coin on the ground And not a shred of evidence will ever be found Take a trip to the facilities with no-one around Ain't it tragic how a man can accidentally drown You've locked the door, you're in your most secure of quarters when It's been a little while since your security reported in A sudden force and then you'll wish you'd brought your snorkel in They find your body bobbing in a mortuary of porcelain CHORUS No one ever recalls the second They first come across 47 Because before you've drawn your weapon You're already taking that fall from heaven If you only could pause a second Can’t stall your destiny halt what's meant to be No protection we all get reckoned the Cause of death will be 47 VERSE 3 Most people went to bed and they simply never woke Take solace in the knowledge that your death will be bespoke Hand crafted All wrapped up in leather as you choke Every execution executed excellently so Any single person could be 47 lurking He could be working in burger king Strychnine in your onion rings Snuffing out your underlings ‘fore you get to wondering You'll be bloodied stuffed into a cupboard in your underthings It's the last creak as you stand beneath the chandelier It’s the gas leak when you candlelit for atmosphere It’s the last beat as your heart receives the formula The red streak when the beam hits your cornea The mouthfeel of your unintended last meal The weapons test where you forget to check the blast seals The sunset as your body's doing cartwheels Straight over the edge of a ledge Or it's the hard steel Scraping on your ribs As you shiver and expire It's the first red fleck on your impeccable attire It's your throat torn to shreds as you’re dying to respire As your fingernails are fighting against the tightening of the wire It's a second to forgive It's a second to forget. Every second you have lived For this second of regret. Every second is a gift So be careful how you spend ‘Cause the second that you’ve met him Is the second that It ends

The old chorus was out of tune, which would have been a disaster in any other song, but it felt creepy and off-putting which works for Hitman. The old one I listened to like a poem and less like a song. This new one sounds like a song, and the chorus is fine, but omg the bits where there is no music "last breath" and "accidently drown" gave me chills. Made the murder feel so much more impactful.
@maxfeuerman93784 жыл бұрын
I will have to agree. The old chorus was my favorite part of the song. I think it captures the terror that a hitman could be, a ghost of death, quite well. The redone version is still very nice, and I think an improvement everywhere else. This doesn't mean the chorus is bad by any means, I just also prefer the old chorus.
@dylanconfer11164 жыл бұрын
Yeah, is definitely a better "song," and where the music cutes out gives me chills, but some lines just don't hit the same as the original. Sometimes that's a good thing, but I don't think this one is decisively the better of the two, at least for me.
@farmerboy9164 жыл бұрын
I also found the way the old was delivered was... flatter and therefore much more appropriate, thematically and for the character. Less emotion from the person delivering the lines. I really preferred it that way. And while the interruptions may be impactful as you say, is that thematically appropriate or not? I guess it depends on your view.

According to sources I've read and heard; Agent 47 is effectively a Master Assassin but a Jack of All Trades for everything else. So the idea that Agent 47 would sing, it would be competent but not professional which is probably why the old one works in character.
@IKWerewolf4 жыл бұрын
@@farmerboy916 Depends how you look at it and whether you see it from the point of a Victim or Agent 47. To agent 47. killing is nothing so the old version is better, if its the victim then the new one makes more sense for cutting out at key points.

I listened to the original and the remastered version one after the other, four bars at a time, so that I could compare them properly, that I am not just commenting from a vague memory of the original song. This remastered version exceeds immensely the mixing and production quality of the original all around, without a doubt. The improvement is startling, and, in the most affectionate way possible, downright stupid. It is clear, too, that your creative direction in terms of audio manipulation has improved tremendously, which is easily evidenced by the small touches that you have added ("last breath", "the sound of a coin...accidentally drown"). You should be proud. The small controversy, regarding the chorus, I think, has a clear explanation. While this chorus is of a much higher quality than the last one -- not to mention that it is in tune! -- it is different enough that it sounds as though it is from a different song entirely. That dissonance, alongside the accompanying, harsher transition between the chorus and the verses, is what I would imagine people (myself included) are finding particularly jarring. However, I struggle to call the improvement to the chorus a negative on the quality of the song itself. I am almost convinced that you have to write, record, mix, and master with the transitions in mind to make them seamless, as the transitions are on every other song you have ever produced. So, the discord between the chorus and the verses are a product of remastering a song with different intentions from when it was written. Finally, and of course, the slight clash between the two stands as a testimony to not only the excellent quality of your work, but also as proof of your relentless pursuit of improvement. Overall, as I consider the remastered version, nothing is more fitting to claim than that you have outdone yourself, and have once again demonstrated yourself to produce only the highest quality songs. No amount of thanks could be sufficient to show my gratitude for your dedication and excellence.

I thought that this would be just a more polished revamp version of the song with nothing new, but I should've thought better than to think less of the stupendous fellow in charge of this. I was pleasantly surprised at 1:06 when instead of the melody still going, there was a pause and an actual breath to emphasize "the last breath" line. Also, the unexpected chorus change caught me by surprise but then it settled in, and I can say with full optimism that the chorus is much better. @@TheStupendium It felt like a dissonant horde of similarly faceless assassins singing in chorus for 47, or a ghostly chorus sung by his victims over the years, which is why we loved it so much, I think; the new chorus by comparison sounds much flatter and more like it's just backing tracks of a singer in quartet because of how clean it is. The disharmony was actually a positive linking element of many voices not blending together into one, not a negative one, for us. Still, the new one is still great as always, Stupes! Looking forward to the rest of the year.

Not sure if it was directly intended after hearing it but the line “He could be workin in Burger King strychnine your onion rings” is (or at least seems to be) a Easter egg to Eminem’s ‘The Real Slim Shady’ with the line being “And every single person is a Slim Shady lurking he could be workin in Burger King spittin in your onion rings, or in the parking lot circling screaming ‘I don’t give a f**k’ with his windows down and his system up”

While I appreciate and admire the work you went through to remaster this piece of music, for me, the previous version is much more musically satisfying. @@TheStupendium personally I think this versions sounds more echoy, while the original was more plain (by which I mean less obvious sound modification) which added to the idea of agent 47 killing you simply because he is ordered to, to him it is a simple contracted kill, no different to any other and will be completed without notice. @@TheStupendium Maybe, but honestly I think the new chorus is not better and is in fact worse. There are a few places where the music cuts out and it doesn't seem right. This kinda proves the point Dan Bull made, but I like both versions and I just think that the changes made to the song ruined it in some places. The song sounds better overall, but I just can't get over the chorus. Going higher with that is not what I think is the best idea for it, 47 is a contract killer after all. Dunno. Preference, and maybe it proves Dan Bull's point further but I honestly think that this was actually a worse version than the first one. I love both version but maybe this might be constructive criticism because there seems to be an overwhelming negative response to the chorus specifically.

@@TheStupendium The old chorus was definitely out of tune, but it was also actually a harmony. In the new version one voice takes priority and the harmony is barely there. I think that's the distinction we're seeing here with listeners. The hymn sound gave the song a lot of flavor that's been lost.

I still like the dim distortion if the old one that gave a air of mystery to it, especially for lines like "the sound of a coin on the ground" and the chorus but this is still plenty good, the changes aren't bad, just different and the want to remaster old work shows how you are dedicated to your work. Looking forward to the notifications ringing in through 2021!

I've seen a lot of comments about the chorus being better in the original, but in my opinion the new chorus sounds way better (and so does the whole song!) Good job :)

The flow of this remastered edition feels much smoother to me - well done. And what should I say - one more time you put together a remarkable ode! This time not 47 but his 'art' is in the main focus and I love it! There are so many classic, outstanding, cool and/or brutal kills listed here - no question about the person who masters them all ;-)

Ngl, I love how creepy the old one was but this one sounds a lot nicer. It’s a 50/50 split for me

It was already my favorite song of yours, I’m not sure how you managed to make it better, but here we are, it’s defiantly of a higher quality, but I definitely prefer the old choirs, stupendous work though

I did not expect one of my favorites to be redone this year, but recently many surprises have been occuring. Honestly, I would keep this song on loop for hours at a time, playing Minecraft, Roblox, and other games. Now, I have to keep THIS one on loop- and I'm not complaining. You clearly took your time to trim this masterpiece into an even greater work of art and it shows clearer than day. I love the new added sound effects to simulate the assassinations and the fact that I can distill vocals from the beat. Not to mention that the entire thing just sounds great. I love the revamped vocals so much, I even replay certain parts to just hear the awesomeness again. Anyways, sorry for making you reading this entire thing, have a good day/night, and continue with these great works of art! P.S. you deserve a vacation, I think you've done a lot of great work recently and you might need a break-

I think that this version is worlds better than the other. My only complaint is that you missed the opportunity to call this The second "The Second" (as in the 2nd version of the song "The Second)

First Impressions: While I prefer the older song because it sounds more in line with atmosphere of the games, I can appreciate the higher quality of the sound and the extra audio effects. Except the changes to the Chorus, sounds too ‘poppy’, for lack of a better word, and upbeat for Hitman. Still a great song, just making my opinion heard.

I listened to the first version of that song so often that this oe feels kind of off, but it also feels that the overall quality on this one is better than before. I really enjoy your songs a lot, especially these slower darker songs. If you wanna give some of your other songs a remaster, I sugest your first Frostpunk rap. It´s great and I found you trough that, but I´m curious what you can get out of that song

I like this version, but I honestly like the original more. That may just be due to familiarity, but I felt it flowed better and felt a bit more raw, which helped with the whole "I am going to murder you vibe" Quality is way up, old chorus just felt better. Can't wait for your next project.

Everyone's entitled to a favourite! The chorus in the old one was out of tune which maybe added to the eeriness, but I prefer it now the tuning is correct. But the original will stay where it is for those who prefer it, it's one of my personal favourite songs I've done lyrically so I'm just happy you like either version! :)

@@TheStupendium Exactly. I am super glad you have a version you are proud of. Looking back at past work and being disappointed by it is frustrating and you're so talented, I am glad you're getting to make things the way they are in your head, rather than being limited by technical or knowledge limitations :D

I haven't seen the first one, but now I kind of want to. You did a great job on this, though. I've never played or watched somebody else play Hitman, but this song got the point across well enough so that I can understand it pretty good, which is what you want in a video game based song.

Aye, much better sound mixing and quality to this version! I'm glad you're happier with it. I adore all of your work, but I much more so preferred the bass-ier chorus of the previous version. This high tenor sound is far more discordant compared to the lower octave spoken portions. Thank you for all of your work.

So i know i'm a *little* late to the party. (cough three weeks) But i cannot get enough of that last little tidbit for. "As your fingernails are fighting against the tightening of the wire" The tune for it fits perfectly and draws the entire element of constant aversion together wonderfully. i wanted to commend on that specifically because i love it. Great stuff as always

In the words of Adam Neely - 'repetition legitimizes'. The more I'll listen to this, the more i'll like it. But i still do prefer the rendition of 'can't stall destiny/what was meant to be' from the original, it had this ethereal, angelic quality about it. Good job, nevertheless!

I always love when you do remasters! It doesn't matter if you prefer the original or the new one; the fact that you took the time to improve your work - even though it was already perfect :) - means a lot. Awesome job!

After listening to this a couple of times, I prefer this remaster. Something about the music and the new timings make it feel like its own song while still paying homage to the original. Plus lets be fair; we see 'The Stupendium' upload. We click. We like. We enjoy. Keep up the great work and looking forward to the next remaster. :)
