You guys totally missed the puzzle solution of “you are el rata alada” puzzle. Penguin tells them that the sentence doesn’t make sense because in Spanish you would say “la rata” not “el rata” leading to Batman saying that “you are el” is actually “U R L”

I always thought of the Riddler as this weird goofy character who left clues for Batman because in his mind he was playing a game with Batman. But it always seemed to be a major plot hole because if he didn't, then Batman would have had a much harder time trying to figure out his plan. It always seemed to be something that worked in comic because it had to. But in the movie the writers provide a clear and understandable reason why he leaving clues for Batman to follow since to the Riddler, he thought that Batman was his partner in exposing and removing the corrupt elite from Gotham! Felt much more plausible. Great episode as always!

I gotta say, I'm totally fine with some films getting longer, especially if they deserve it. Though the 3rd Act had some flaws in this film, it really was necessary to tie all the arcs together and bring the story to completion. Films used to be longer back in the days of Hollywood's Golden Age, and in a time of receding attention spans, I'm glad to see films bucking conventional wisdom of making shorter and shorter content.

Saw it on Tue with the lady. She normally despises anything super heroish or comic book based and frankly so do I however we absolutely loved "The Batman". Clapping at the end of the movie, and staying throughout the entire credits to see the little surprise at the end. A great movie going experience, and let me tell you when that bat mobile first starts its engines...DAMN...the entire audience was erupting in roar and I got chills down my spine. The sound design on that scene was very well done. Overall it's an amazing movie and needs proper recognition.

I was waiting a full 3 hours for any sign of the Tim Burton comedy - walking up to the Penguin's car after that chase scene, locking eyes silently for a few moments.. Batman: "License and registration". Otherwise, 8.9/10 in my book, cinematography was out of this world and lack of CGI really grounded this movie, making it more immersive.

I agree with you on the cinematography. Every shot was beautiful and the editing was sublime. Agree with you on the CGI part except for one scene, the one where he wingsuits down. I don't know if it was just me, but that movement was so bad and jarring it felt amateurish. Not going to rewatch it again, might need to just wait for the Blue-Ray to see it again...

There's a TON of CGI in this movie dude. It's just really well done so you don't notice. Like almost every shot from the Car chase has CGI. The rain was CG, Batman's cape in the final shot was CG and they even changed his boots with CG.

I get what David is saying about the adrenaline near the end but I actually felt that it was his rage he was channeling and the adrenaline just gave him the strength to get up; it really added to their emotional connection to me at how angry and protective he was of her. It was when he was accusing her of “comprising/selling herself” to get close into the crime organization. He says all this because the movie implied a close intimate relationship between Selina and Falcone, which apart from the father-daughter relationship, would imply some sort of sex work/mistress relationship.

As an aside, the theme used for Batman is the Dies Irae. It’s a really famous musical theme that dates back to the 1200s. Often it’s associated with death. it’s been used a lot in movies like Sweeney Todd and the shinning. It became super popular from Copin’s Funeral March. Dies Irae translates to ‘The Day of Judgment’ or ‘The Day of Wrath,’ Which makes it really fitting for Batman

I really wish the ending had included a scene of Bruce using his money and influence to help rebuild Gothman. Early in the film, Alfred chides him for dodging board meetings, and later, the mayor asks him for his help. Instead of some of the spinoff set up at the end, it would have been great to see Bruce launch a new, better, renewal program - maybe open up better orphanages or something. That seems to be where they were going thematically, so I was a little surprised when the film ended without it.

@darmokandjalad7786
@darmokandjalad7786 2 жыл бұрын
@@BLAZINGwaffle56 I feel like that's the same thing. Batman realized that he had failed the people of Gotham by focusing solely on punishing criminals, which led to him saving the mayor and others at the end -- realizing that he needed to be a protector as well as a punisher. But, the movie also makes it clear that he hasn't been doing his best as Bruce either. Selina calls out the rich white men of the city for being corrupt and not solving problems, and the Riddler partially targets Bruce Wayne because he wasn't using his power and money to help people. That's why I think my addition would help strengthen his arc -- sorry I think it was a little unclear before.

the "Bruce" persona is really good in this imo. I think he would be much like this early on; he learns to fake it as he gets older. He will never be normal, and this shows that he was not some golden perfect child that became a perfect vigilante. BW and BM are not role models.

As a comic dork Im used to getting new versions and different takes on the characters i love constantly. Thats just the nature of the omic publishing industry. So it never bothers me when we get another new take on a cape in film form. The more the better for my money. That also means if I dont like something, i just have to wait a couple years, and there gonna make another different one that I might enjoy more. Not to say I didnt like this flick, I really dug it. Thats is just more a little nugget I wanted to give for people who maybe sometimes get too wrapped up in one of these movies when they come out.

39:57 this conversation but remember when Riley said this 18:59 ? I had left the theatre just as confused as Riley about Riddler did/didn't know. After reviewing the scene at Arkham, one might imagine Riddler had been trying to provoke a response from Batman to reveal himself on tape. I personally didn't buy into the alternative, brooding over Bruce who got away, and thought if this was misdirection it was janky in its execution because the tone the Riddler uses was mismatched. Later on in that conversation I believe the Riddler expressed he was inspired by Batman, said he felt empowered when he too wore a mask and could be his true self. So I believe I was overwhelmed in the moment and thought he knew Batman was Bruces trueself, the mailbomb says otherwise though but I have nitpicks with that, billionaires who open their own mail? If he needed Batmans help to reach the crime boss, why not Bruce Wayne too? I felt he didn't sell the failure of the Bruce Wayne attempt, and perhaps the Riddler might have been curious why his, up to that point, well executed plan didn't work (ignoring my nitpicks) and tested the Batman face to face by saying Bruce Wayne repeatedly. TL;DR was confused, watched your review after and felt better, reviewed the scene and think he either knows and changed the subject after gauging Batmans reactions (probable), didn't pickup on Batmans reactions (not probable), or truely didn't know (very likely, they're both ignorant to the extent of the plan/secret identity).

Personally I think the riddler knowing Batman's identity was left open, cos he's proven to be an incredibly intelligent opponent for Batman and whether or not his fantasy of allying with Batman is an act, it would make sense for him to hold on to that information for future use because he probably would want to expose him at a time when it would cause the most political damage, maybe once Bruce starts getting more into his work outside of Batman.

I think batman/Bruce looking at the boy was unique every time. One was as the batman where the kid sees him in the house. Then again at the funeral where the kid sees him as Bruce and doesn't really care. Then again in the water at the end where he's the first one to reach out to Batman. I think a discussion about each scenario could be better instead of saying it was the same every time.

I loved the way he emerges from the shadows, those heavy steps and metal sound. Like a fucking dark KNIGHT

Think “The Batman” comes from the og comics sharing the same name. Later on they removed “the” and just stuck to Batman

amzing how this film has so many defenders of its faults when alot of it comes down to lazy and kinda dumb writing. this film makes you wanna think its smart and its really not.

Everyone under mask is working for me in this movie, without no so much. John Turturro is awful (he needs prosthetics too, like Penguin).

Came here just to say I wasn’t in love with the riddler once his mask comes off. Wasn’t as enticed by Dano’s mask-off Performance, it was kinda monotone. Movie overall was great though

??? What's this now playing thing?? Feels out of place. I like this podcast because it's just about the movie and I recommend it to others because of this reason. It takes me out of things when it's LTT talk and their gaming backgrounds
