Encouragment for anyone being told they're being picky with their dating standards, you're choosing someone to spend the rest of your life with. That gives you every right to be a little picky and choose someone who values the same things as you.😁

Right. It's inherently logical--why waste your own time? Why waste the other person's time? It only makes sense, but back in the day I was too busy trying to be...what....charming? appealing?....to do this. With the predictable result--wasting my time, wasting the other person's time. So Emily's right--go for it! If it's a turnoff to the other person, then that's not the human being for you.

I used to be afraid to talk about my abstinence values until the guy brought it up, but ever since a guy tried to coerce me and another guy had his friend bully me, I realized that I should probably talk about my abstinence values and that I'm saving sex for marriage on the first date. Even though last time I told a guy that, he did a 180 on his interest level. It's confusing when a guy tells me he has a huge crush on me and then when I tell him about my abstinence he says, that won't work for him. I wear a chastity ring on my hand now. I guess that will scare all the players away!

I know how worldly guys think, I used to be one. Truth be told, the guy probably said he likes you to see if that would open you up more, so that it may have led to sex eventually. Yep, many worldly men and women play these games.

Excellent video, Emily! I couldn't agree more, it's so crucial to get the important stuff out in the beginning. I get emotionally attached really quickly so when I went on a date I had 40 questions that we ask each other so that we could get a better understanding of who the other person was (think job interviews). Most people know more about someone after a job interview than after a first date. I got a lot of comments from well meaning friends and family that I was being to extreme in my dating style. Some guys were really turned off by it and that's fine cause they were not the one for me. I finally found the one, after a year of online dating. He is everything I prayed for in a husband, God is faithful!

I’m always upfront about my Christian faith, but it’s my strong political views that I’m always hesitant to bring up. Gives me something to think about!

The other part of this is that you really need to know who you are before dating then. You need to know what’s important to you

I would love to know if a guy is on the same page about faith as I am because if not, I wouldn't even waste our time to go on a date with him and wonder if I can open up the faith topic. 😅
@Orthodox_mang3 жыл бұрын
Definitely ask him. It’s best that yall are open to each other from the start. But as a man, if I were dating now, I would definitely be honest and open from the start. Like yo ‘no tongue kissing and sex before marriage’ lol

One of the reasons I may NOT mention my faith/religion too soon is because some people, the more they know about you, the more manipulative they can become. I rather them feel as comfortable as possible and speak frankly without knowing they have to suck up to me to see if they can get something else a little further down the line. A lot of the time if you just let people motor mouth and remain quiet for the first 10-15 minutes (in general, not just in dating) you'll find out often more than you ever needed to know. In general people love talking about themselves so just ask a lot subtle questions with a friendly smile.

Wow, Emily -- the way you present these topics always gives me a boost of confidence. Your joy and enthusiasm is infectious!! I've only dated once and just in general I struggle with being forthright about what matters most to me. I'm gonna regularly return to this video as a reminder ☺️

Your videos and insta posts are always of such great quality, so firstly I want to thank you for your work! These tips are so key and being unapologeticaly you goes hand in hand with valuing your time and your heart. If you are water based, you will not become one with someone who is oil based. And if becoming one in marriage is your goal, you better know the core values of a potential partner so you don't waste your time and energy stiring ;) (don't come for me on how "vinaigrette" is made, this is just an analogy haha). May peace be upon you and your sweet family Emily! Love from France

Okay-I need the oversharing video yesterday because that is a HUGE struggle for me! 😅 I have more the opposite problem; I’m an open book! The reason I’ve been told before for why Christian men don’t want to date me is because I’m “too deep.” 🥴 I don’t believe I AM too deep-but it may be valid that I might open up a bit too much too soon. Can’t wait to hear what you say in that video! This one was great as well!

@Emily Wilson, thank you for this! When I met my husband he straight up told me he never wanted to get married or have kids... 7 going on 8 years later we are almost married for 2 years in May and welcomed our son in November. In response to your video about the steps we take, people kept asking when we would get engaged, married, had kids. Took 7 years to do all these things cuz college was so important for me to do first. ♥️

I don’t think you should share every detail of your life on the first date because you need to leave room for attraction and mystery. However, if you state your boundaries and what you will and will not accept in a classy way, your time is less likely to be wasted.
@eddiy3353 жыл бұрын
Sharing your morals and values isn't oversharing. There is no need to leave room for attraction and mystery when the relationship isn't going to go anywhere.

I need some advice: throughout my life so far, I wanted to save myself for marriage because I wanted to be sure that I was making the right decision with my partner. I wanted to make sure I was with someone I really cared about and loved so that I wouldn’t end up regretting it. Until this past year, I had never had a serious boyfriend so it wasn’t really a problem. I know that life is full of tests, but as I’m going with this relationship, I don’t know that to do. He wants to, but I’m unsure. And until I’m sure, I don’t want to do anything. I don’t know if I should keep waiting, or if I wouldn’t regret it because I do really love him. I don’t want to make him feel bad, but I also don’t want to regret it.
@olgac.h.12783 жыл бұрын
Wait until you're married to him and then you won't regret it. Until then, anything can happen, and you will regret it.

God bless you for coming here for advice, Emily has a beautiful video on this I believe it's called "What no one is saying about saving yourself for marriage." She puts it so beautifully and it's definitely worth the listen, hope this helps and I will pray for you!
@nastassjam91683 жыл бұрын
What if they still want to date you, and accept saving sex until marriage BUT they are agnostic (open to converting, but only for me)
@shelbyh.293 жыл бұрын
I hope you don’t mind me offering my opinion (I’ve had to tell this to myself in the last year). If he does not have a firm relationship with the Lord outside of his relationship with you, he will not be able to step up and fulfill the role that God has given men in a relationship. Even if he does convert, the Bible tells us to be equally yoked, and I think that means between Christians too. If you are passionate about your faith and your love for the Lord, but he isn’t, he may not be the equal that God has planned for you.
@teresahannasch34203 жыл бұрын
I think that's your judgement call alone. Set standards and don't settle. Settling hurts more in the long run
