Pissed me off enough that my last keyboard was a $4.00 dollar store keyboard. When the paint on the keys wears off too much, it's starting to get a bit dotty and at the price, who cares?

@@u2bear377 Yes. And then they weren't getting made, so I had to make Ebay purchases. I loved them, because my right thumb was getting arthritis at the age of 33 when I found they didn't aggravate it. And my wife used them as well. But they always seemed to have a limited lifetime. And then it got too hard to find working ones that weren't outrageous (I'm smart, but evidently not smart enough to notice a pattern in that it seems, so not smart enough), so I switched to Logitech. Being a thumb ball, that aggravated my arthritis again. Now I use the ELECOM HUGE trackball. I tried the wireless ones, but the wireless stopped working, and switched to the wired. Which my cats managed to destroy by knocking it off my desk. So far the Elecom works just like the MS one, and it's more configurable, so that I make it match the MS way. It has a scroll wheel that even works horizontally. Not that it's a feature I remember to use, lol.

Logitech has been lagging behind on the hardware front for years too. Even their most expensive keyboards lacked PBT doubleshot keycaps for a long time. The result was that even on their premium keyboards the most widely used keys had a problem where the legend printed on the ABS keycap simply wore off. Now they're finally starting to include PBT but they still lack hotswap switches and pre-lubed keys that are standard even on much cheaper keyboards from other manufacturers.

I own a Wooting. They added this feature (including NumLock inversion) to their software/firmware. So it's Logitech that just doesn't want to. But most of the time, you buy the hardware, and don't consider software until you plug it in. However as someone who is very particular with certain things, I think your tool is amazing (even if I have no use for it). So many actually useful options and even Command-line / "remote control" type of stuff! I wish big companies software would be half this good! I love your "fine. I'll do it myself" attitude with all the things.

Until someone makes a exact copy or better version of their g502 mouse I guess I'm stuck with them. My mx518 served me good 10 years I think until I dropped it off the couch one too many times and the cable just wouldn't work anymore. Then upgraded to g502 which served me good 7 years until it was so full of gunk and cleaning intervals started to be too small so bought another one. Now going on 3 years on the 3rd mouse. So mostly my logitech products has served me well.

Strongly suggest you just return it if you can. Lack of num lock is the smallest issue. Within a year, some keys will just stop working. Me and several friends has had the exact same problem (though with different keys). I really loved the keyboard until then, but now I've swore to never buy Logitech again.

I have a similar but different Logitech keyboard and I HATE it. The backlight doesn't work properly, I have to keep pressing it with different combinations until it decides to turn on (I really don't know why it doesn't just always turn on with a single press, why it keeps resetting the backlight mode; my cheap Reddragon keyboard is flawless for this 😒). But even worse, the keys are trash and won't press down correctly unless pressed properly perpendicular , they'll stick if pressed from a slight angle. It's like a primitive Rubik's cube that has zero corner-cutting! 🤦

Sorry to hear that. Have to say that I haven't had any issues with my G915, and I've had it for I believe ~4 years now. Maybe I got lucky? However, I have to +1 that in terms of software, it does indeed feel like Logitech doesn't care. You do constantly run into little quality of life nuisances that people have documented broadly for years, and it's really frustrating when you actually like the hardware!

Logitech K270 also does not have a num lock indicator. K480 lacks both num lock and caps lock indicator. Logitech Media Keyboard 500, a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay old product, have them. (It's wired though) Damn, those indicators have proper reason to exist.

Agreed! The other problem with their wireless keyboard is that the running macro's will STOP once the keyboard goes in sleep mode from inactivity. And there's no way to keep the macro running or stop the inactivity check. These wireless keyboards try to imitate the real thing as if wired but it's just badly engineered.

That’s another very useful app. I’m impressed. A possible (optional) extension could be to also change the colour of the entire numbers block, to indicate the changed mode. It’s something I would use, but have no idea, how popular it would be. Cheers. PS: Microsoft should consider to include this app with power toys, as they regularly feature open source projects (or work based on them) in there. Imo they should integrate this functionality into Windows as an option for all coloured lighting keyboards. The reason being, that it can be useful even when a hardware indicator is present, because some of them just are very small, too dim or even in awkward places, where they can be obscured by keys or your hand (e.g. between the arrow keys and the home, delete etc. block).

It's not just Logitech, it's pretty much all companies these days. They provide a way to provide feedback but universally ignore user-feedback and just do whatever crap they want, making unnecessary and unwanted changes that make things worse and worse and force it on users. This is why I stopped contributing to Chrome and then stopped using it altogether (and why I'm frustrated that I have no choice but to use Firefox whose devs are no better than the Chrome devs). 😕

I don't like what keyboard manufacturers in general have been doing the last decade or more. They've more and more ignored the long established standard keyboard layout. The only way you can find a standard keyboard anymore is to try to find the cheapest keyboard you can find, and even then they've started replacing keys with Fn or something, or just removing rarely used/seemingly redundant keys entirely. Like seriously, with a $50-$100 plus keyboard, how expensive is it to add a few extra physical keys? I'd rather have an extra key or two somewhere than have the keys I need/want missing. I realize I'm not the majority of people and my use case is unusual, but it's very frustrating when even the cheapest keyboard manufacturers are getting on the bandwagon and messing with the layout. Or when they /do/ add physical keys it's those god awful power/sleep/wake keys that they always put right where you can accidentally press them and put your computer to sleep with no way to disable them without disabling the power/sleep buttons on the case as well. If there was /ever/ a case for having buttons need to hold a modifier key to use it'd be power/sleep if they're not put like tucked away in an unused corner. And I'm not sure the point of a wake key since generally /any/ key will wake a computer unless it's disabled. I don't know if a wake key functions even then?

I have a different Logitech keyboard that's a similar physical layout. It does have the lock-key LEDs, but they're hidden back at the edge of the keyboard behind the height of the keys, so they're only visible if you're sitting completely upright. Whenever I'm slumped down in my chair, I can't see them. 😒 I'm sick of mfgs/devs only accounting for their own personal ways instead of thinking of users' various styles and such. 🤦

I used an RGB program called Aurora with my G910 to impliment Even more than this. Turning on Num lock not only turns it Orange (from blue) but turna ALL AFFECTED KEYS orange too. Same with Caps Lock, I also used it to make An analog clock on my keyboard where the Hour shows up in red on my F1-F12 Row. Escape turns red for PM, and Each of the F1-12 keys lights up orange to indicate 5 minute increments towards the hour. the G6-G9 Macro keys light orange to indicate 1 minute parts of the current 5 So for example at present 6:48AM F6 is red, F1-F9 are orange (45 Minutes) and G6-G8 are Orange to indicate 3 additional minutes. Also on the 15-30 and 45 Min marks the minutes turn Magenta. On the hour for 5 seconds the leters that form the hour flash red (ONE, TWO, THRE, FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVN, EIGHT, NIE, TEN, ELVN, TWELV) Also if you turn on Scroll lock a Green "Second hand" flashes overtop of the Hours and Minutes Displaying the seconds in the same manner as the minutes. I also created it such that on my birthday for 1 hour starting at the exact time of my birth the letters HAPY BIRTD Light up in Rainbow colours.just because I could.

I used to have a keyboard without a numpad but with a numlock, which would turn some of the regular keys on the right side of the keyboard into a janky numpad. Every time the computer rebooted, the numlock would automatically get turned on, which caused my log in to fail because my password would have some of the letters replaced with numbers. It was incredibly frustrating, especially the first time when I repeatedly typed my password in slowly and carefully and had no idea why it was being rejected.

My personal favorite feature of the G915 is the bowing. Saw one in a store a couple days ago that was bowed and warped so heavily in the middle that one of the feet didn't make contact anymore and it wobbled around on their counter if you typed on it 🤪Every G915 I've seen in stores had that issue. I always wanted one but when I heard about this issue I was glad I didn't buy it. For now I use an Epomaker EK68. Being able to customize (and later fix) it with hotswap switches is nice and it doesn't even have a number block, so I don't have to worry about the numlock key! 🙃 Though it does exactly what you did here, caps lock does light up in a different color when I press it.

I have a similar stupid issue with a Logitech keyboard, I have their MX Keys backlit keyboard and I bought it purposely for being able to see my keyboard while it's dark when watching movies. But it has this annoying "Ambient Light Sensor" that actually would be a pretty cool option, but you cannot deactivate this feature, all I want is when the wireless keyboard is switched on the backlight is on, that's all. I have contacted Logitech and they are useless, I feel on a $200 AUD keyboard that this simple function should be standard but they said to me directly that they will not pass my issue on to the technical team but will note my complaint...

something else I don't like is: the G app lets you remap keys, as long as the only keys you want to remap are the FUNCTION keys. the only reason I got the 700 model is because it takes up a little less space on the desk without the numpad, but it has the home insert page up page down key cluster, that combined with the key remapping utility should have allowed me to remap those keys into a numpad... but the remapping utility only remaps the function keys. I'm also not too impressed with the way the backlighting customization utility works... it's better than nothing, but it assumes I only want to use it with games, and then the rest of the time it's just accent lighting, but being able to change the backlighting of specific keys is useful for any program, not just games

This is cool. I did something very similar but with a small icon overlay for active apps using your microphone that changes via the same hotkeys. It's dumb, but works for anything so it's better dumb than not. I found this video really interesting!

On linux I just remapped my keyboard so it no longer has a non-numlocked state. If any software attempts to unset numlock, the call fails because the new keyboard definition doesn't support that function.

I have Logitech K380 which has this fn+tab as screenshot shortcut. The problem is its pretty common key combination for me to misclick when I dont need to and there is no way to disable it. Even in their logitech app. When raised issue to logitech, after 8 days of back and forth, they said its not possible. Like give your shortcuts in f12 keys, dont mess up below keys ever. And in their TnC of the logitech keyboard app, they put that they check your key presses and can do analysis on them, so then I got an asus keyboard, runs well without any app.

I used to turn off NumLock in the bios in the 1990s because I'd use the numlock cursor keys as default for movement in games, but now that WASD is the current meta, I need, I repeat, NEED (hence why I never buy a short keyboard) proper numberpad keys for data input on excel. SO MUCH FASTER.

Just a though from the Glasses Smurf. The icon used for the "Undo Changes" button looks like a Redo icon for me. A Counterclockwise icon should be more appropriated. Otherwise your application is perfect and overkills its purpose by far!

I love these low profile keyboards and after trying a few (including the logitech 915 I found that the razer huntsman is the best one by far (switches, key caps, quality, software, etc) It allows you to easily swap the low profile optical switches to other ones from keychron (I bought a few sets and found that banana switches are the best for me)

I really wish Num lock Caps lock and Scroll lock (even if its useless today) had been hardware switches back when they where first invented. Instead of a caps lock buttion it would be a hardware switch. instead of a light telling you if its on or off you have the switch telling you if its on or off

My G915 has the 3 lock lights, but they are really close and all the same color, so when it is darker in the room, I can't tell which lock is on. The real problem mine has is that the RGB leds have failing colors. I won't be buying another Logitech product after this.

Can I use a preset lighting(colour wave) with Logitech keyboard(G213) without G HUB running in the background. Because whenever I exit the application it is reverting to default lighting(colour cycle)

You might be able to use the Windows dynamic lighting for that if it’s supported. But not at the same time as my app

@@ThioJoe I run Win 10, so Dynamic Lighting is not there. My keyboard has a light indicator for all the locks. I was just curious if there was a way to somehow set the lighting I want without keeping G HUB running in the background.

There are software indicators, you could put it near the clock on the tray. (Well, you will still have the issue inside Hyper-V machines. The BIOS default is NUM LOCK OFF. You could change the default BIOS, wondering if that's possible or maybe you can configure it on the machine config page?) - but sure, it would make sense to have an indicator on the keyboard. Wondering if you could configure the background color of a key (if it has one and programmable, well...) based on NUM LOCK setting's value.

Maybe i am weird, but i have never had a problem with the lack of a num lock light on my Logitech wireless keyboard. The key to turn it on is in a very convenient place, so, if it goes off, just tap the num lock key. Is it really thst difficult?

I have owned a Logitech G915 since 2021, its the keyboard I use on my main desktop. Never once found it an issue not having a numlock indicator. If the numpad doesn't work as I expect, I press the num key and move on

I feel like this is a video for non gamers who use keyboards like this outside of gaming for work because they like the sound and feel of a mechanical keyboard and probably for the RGB lighting. I use mine occasionally with my tablet for typing comments.

@@PinkAgaricus I use the numpad for work, I also use it when gaming. I am left handed, and I have always used the numpad and arrow keys on a full sized keyboard for movement and action keys with my right hand, I use the mouse with my left hand. So it is very important to me that the numpad works as intended and in the correct mode for my ability to use it without issue. With the G915, I have never missed having a numlock indicator.

Razer keyboards make a loud audible BEEP when pressing NumLock. Low pitch 'Boop' for off, high pitch 'Beep' for on. You can make it go Beep, Boop, Beep, Boop, Beep, Boop. Yes I'm easily entertained, but I believe it only does that when you have the Razer Central/Cortex software running since the audio is played though your main audio output. It also has a numlock light too, but it's not RGB, like the rest of theq keyboard.

I have a Logitech mechanical MX keyboard and have keys that have been worn off. When I was under warranty they wouldn't even replace 3 keys because it was considered "cosmetic" issue. 🙄

On Windows 10 I use the Ease of Access option that triggers an audible high pitch beep for On and lower pitch for Off on Caps, Num, and Scroll lock. That's native to Windows and surely also there in Windows 11. Would that be a better/simpler/safer mechanism (turn that on and find what triggers that behavior as the thing to monitor) vs. your solution? It's called "Use Toggle Keys" For VM's that may not work as well potentially though.

THANK YOU!! I Have a G512 wired and it doesn't have a numlock light. I literally pinned calculator to the task bar just to test it every time I reboot. I like the keyboard, but I don't need a gamelock light OVER a numlock light... Thank you sir.

I was wondering when I saw the keyboard what the problem is since i have a similar one. But it turns out that I have the wired version that does have the num and caps indicators, though it is still lacking the scroll lock indicator.

I have an older version, the G613. At one point I decided to take it apart for cleaning, which I used to have done to my Microsoft Natural Keyboard several times in the past. That keyboard served me for 15+ years and has undergone multiple bathtub cleaning sessions. The Logitech one has tiny SMD switches inside and one of them broke immediately. The overall build on the inside is... well, cheap. I also bought a matching wireless Logitech mouse and inside of that, the scroll wheel rotary encoder crapped out, just after the warranty expired. I repaired it using an off the self Alps encoder but due to glued pads on the bottom of the mouse the repair did not go 100%. It's still usable but it's kinda crap. I went with another brand (not much relevant, it's Keychron). Screw logitech and their cheap plastic overpriced garbage. Never again.

A new key issue to fix on the horizon exists with “co-pilot” computers: the right ctrl key is replaced by the co-pilot key. No more using the ctrl key on the right side of the keyboard! I wonder how many of us will need to un-learn 30 years of muscle memory there. *sigh* Another new “feature” to fix…

I mean, I have the previous model, the G915, and a G502... but the G502 is old, and I used the older software to set it up, it was perfect, everything was easy to map and set, it used the internal memory so I didn't have to have the app open all the time... but with the new keyboard I had to download the new Logi G Whatever + Crap app, and it reset my mouse, so I had to map it all over again, but it took me like 30 minutes because the new stupid ass app wants you to use the app 24/7, and I wanted to use the internal memory... but then I discovered that with the keyboard some macros don't work without the app open... and the lighting too doesn't work with the internal memory! Only one fixed color or animation, no personalized colors... even if they're steady and not animated... all around is just an atrocious app, really horrible... Logitech software team should just go do something else, like feeding chickens, because apparently they can't develop, at all... or at least the gaming side, because funnily enough, I bought an MX Master 3S for my laptop, and that one has an app that stays closed, no pop up, no notification tray icon, no nothing, and just works, and it's way easier to set up and understand... so... once again gaming stuff is trash... GG Play Of The Game Logitech...

the problem i have with keyboards, or should i say windows 11.. sometimes I hit keys and it disables normal function of the letters, the bad thing is I cant figure out what I am hitting or how to restore the keyboard back to normal.. ugh..
