Definitely. Most of us are still waiting for that break-even point where buying an EV is more or less the same as the cost of an ICE. This one's sorta getting there, but it's still $42k for the base model. That's certainly better than most EVs that have been stuck around $80k-150k. One of these days, that economy of scale is gonna kick in... any day now... I dunno if they have much control over what cars they're able to test drive though. It seems like most of the cars they review are media samples that get passed around, so it depends on what's available. They're usually commenting that they only have a week or two daily driving the cars until they have to pass them on to the next reviewer.

As per usual, Alex is one of the most entertaining reviewers of electric cars on the internet. Great stuff. In my opinion the Ioniq 6 has a very mixed bag of visual choices. The rear end is great, and probably the best part of the car. The front end is unoffensive in a “we took the shape language of a Porsche from 10+ years ago and gave it sharper lines” sort of way. My issue is with the waist line. I *know* that they were intentionally breaking the mold with where they put the apex of that arc, but I cannot stand how it visually drops after the B-pillar. And I’d rather the waist line meet the rear portion of the roof line in a different, maybe less-sharp way.

Wouldn't covering the back tires and somehow shielding the front tires lower the drag coefficient even more? The rims definitely look pretty but I'm sure people would appreciate increased range even more than wheel aesthetics. I would also add an option to cover the roof and bonnet with solar panels, it would not give unlimited range but it would give some free range every day, at least enough to cover most people's daily commute to and from work, it would be great to never have to visit a charging station during a regular work week. I do appreciate that it's mostly buttons rather than putting everything in the screen so you have to look away from the road to change things, it could do with more recycled plastic though.
@0Rookie0 Жыл бұрын
A 100W solar panel at an unachievable 100% efficiency for 8 hours a day would give you just over 5 miles a day in the Ioniq 6. It's just not worth it at this point. Add 20 pounds of equipment to a car, and factor in the solar panels would be locked at a flat angle AND it's not always sunny, and its even less worth it. A lot of consumers don't even park in direct sunlight to begin with. Might as well focus on efficiency improvements of the systems they have already. Covering the wheels does work but air curtain aerodynamic wizardry does most of that and people like the look more of exposed wheels. In a practical sense, having 20 inch wheels is worse than a 18-17", yet that's what people want and buy. The 1st gen Honda Insight did not sell very well, even though it was a fuel efficiency marvel.

interesting because that lag after you get off the pedal is a quirk I didn't care for on my test drive. The other thing that bugs me more is them not telling you what your charge level will be when you reach your destination in the nav, that's very helpful for road trips.

When the laptop your watching on gets a random shout out in the middle of an EV review! It's been a pretty good laptop so far too!

Find me some mega budget cars, and look at second hand ones. I wanna know if it's generally ok to get a second hand electric or after 5-10 years is the battery trash?

Curious question, is the Ioniq 6 actually on the road where you are?? I'm just trying to gauge when I can expect mine to finally show up. (I'm on the other coast)

12:37 Honestly the bass in the door speakers, which is how the Infinity audio package is on my 99 jeep grand cherokee, is actually quite good combined with the 2 tweeters on the dash. Sounds rather similar to my computer speakers not gonna lie (Logitech X530) just with some more bass and higher volume really.

As a mechanic and overall car enthusiast I would LOVE if you guys started getting under the car and talking about the suspension and drivetrains. Like you mentioned this car is AWD but I believe said single rear motor, id like to see how that setup works. I’m sure there’s some legal/insurance stuff related to having a vehicle lift and walking under cars though.

AWD means one motor in the front and one in the back.

Just a little detail, but kWh is not the same as kW/h (as described in de little notification in the video). kWh is a unit of energy, while kW/h is the rate of power. Assuming your talking about the battery I guess you meant the former :)
@kutalon Жыл бұрын
I think they ment "Battery Per Hour" like kWh/h which is still dumb

my ebike has something similar, it lags when i hit the throttle when the bike is NOT in FULL POWER, rather 80% or similar. but when using 100% of the power, the throttle is super snappy! its likely that they did something similar in this car

Car makers be using nasa supercomputers to calculate the ugliest possible designs for their electric cars:

At around 2:10 you have some incorrect Units for the battery capacity. It should say kWh not kW. Also "Battery per Hour" is kinda interesting. Can only guess its supposed to mean kilowatt per Hour, but that would also be wrong.

One technical note, the caption for the battery at 2:09 essentially says 77kW/hour. Does not make sense, should be 77kWhr.

They can't sell you the EU no mirrors model. But can you import a car like that? Like will you be able to drive it legally? (ignoring the 5000$ minimum it would cost to ship it)

After playing with the configuration options there's no way to get front cooled seats with the longer range wheels. You got your 3 trims, 6 colors, sometimes either white or black seats. To change literally anything else you gotta change the entire trim, which of course comes with features you either don't want or simply don't need. Not like I have enough money to buy one anyway. But if I did, I'd find that quite annoying.

I wasn't sure what I thought about the design when I first saw it but now I love it. This is what the first Panamera should've looked like.
