softplatics are made of silicone. silicone is not a plastic. If there is no phtalate in it (like the savagear) it's relatively ok for mother nature. Exept the lead in the jighead you're good.

I guess the comment is 1 year old, but I will still correct and say this is wrong information. Most, if not all softbaits are made from PVC with some differences in formula for different strengths. Silicone is not plastisol indeed, it's a rubber.

I always use metal lures, they last forever and if they get tangled and lost they will eventually rust and break down.

metal will last a good amount of time, it's just that lure is usually made out of non-toxic metal, so the lure can be there for hundreds of years rusting and it harms nobody, can't say the same about plastic tho

I could do that too, if my cars would have something like 35 liter (or about 9 US gallons) sized tank 😂 At least fuel isn't as expensive as it was some months ago, but soon it's even more.

use a small blow-torch lighter to melt bite holes together + you can melt 2 different pieces together. Takes a bit of practice but can significantly increase your plastics longevity

Lead in solid/mineral form like that does not pollute the water, it doesn't dissolve. It's essentially no different than a chunk of aluminum sitting at the bottom. You'd have to eat the weight for there to be any issue and even then you wouldnt absorb much of the element.

Use a dot of superglue to secure/repair your plastics. I do this with Zman and one paddle tail can last me several weekends. Also keeps your bait rigged perfectly.

I don't know what they cost in the US, or if you can even get them, but look for 'Sidewinder Skerries' lures, they're cheaper than these and as good, if not better. They're about £8 for a pack of 3.

Savage gear is good for some things like solid rods and good cheaper reels but DAIWA soft plastic is much stronger and flexible. ZMAN is pretty good too.

Ronz sells a super durable soft plastic and heads perfect for the canal. The plastic is better and is around the same price with more variety.

My go to lure is the Lucky Craft pointer 115 in sardine or anchovy. Deadly on a plethora of fish species… especially halibut and stripers!

You should try some slider lures. They’re about six dollars for 10 of them. Thar made in lawerenceburg Tennessee. We use them for stripers and they were great. Pretty close to the same design. You were throwing

You don’t need to buy the name brand stuff. You can even get the gulp sand eels and use your own jig heads. There’s many ways to fish that same basics rig and have it be 2$ or 6$.

Lead doesn't dissolve into the water or get broken down to microscopic size like plastic does. The ocean literally contains most of of that natural lead on the planet.

So use Z-Man Diesel Minnowz. They're Elaztech, super stretchy and won't get all sliced up. A little dab of super glue on the jig head and one bait would probably last you all day as long as you can keep from getting snagged and/or breaking off

Bluefish we call tailor or choppers..greenbcks if they big. Savage gear is cheap here.we call them jigs. A jig is a weighted full metal lure with hooks on either end. You can feel when you about to get snagged. Tic tic tic. Tip up wind in fast

Id be swimming crankbaits just above those rocks. If you know your depths, you will rarely snag, and theyre super durable. I fish the same crankbaits over snags all season until i make a stupid cast. And i catch more on crankbaits by far than any other lure.

I switched over to Wal-Mart brand Ozark Trail lures cause lure prices are getting stupid. Can't tell much difference. I'm still able to catch zero fish, it just costs less.

Stopped using plastic in my files a few years ago, I tie tens of thousands of flies a year and it hit me that 99% are now just trash in the bottom of a river or hung in a tree

Tie on a weed guard with dental floss, run dental floss down hook till parallel with hook point. Run soft plastic over and make sure it's perfectly straight. Back it off. Put super glue on dental floss then run soft plastic back over the dental floss with fresh super glue on. You'll have a weed guard and the soft plastic will last MUCH longer. You're welcome lol

I'm not sure how popular they are anywhere else really, but here in fl NLBN baits are super popular, and look very similar to that aswell. And for 2 soft plastics its $10 and you can put them on any jig head you want. Not the cheapest, but damn do they work, and they don't break the bank.

Have you ever thrown a flair hawk jig? They are great for snook and redfish. I like the action of the skirt/tail when compared to a typical bucktail. They also have a longer body profile.

I used to use gulp new pennys where I fish at and I guess they changed what they are made of they used to be sturdy and only the tail would come off after about 5 trout maybe more, now pinfish take huge chunks out of the body very easily

One time I went deep sea rock fishing and i put a watermelon sour patch on one hook on a double rig and nothing on the 2nd. I ended up catching a baby rock fish on the hook with nothing on it

here is a better option: buy a leader, a jig head hook and a pack of rubber fishes it costs like 10$ (6 hooks and 8 fish with a 2 pack leader)

Search KZbin for “bow and arrow” technique for getting your snagged lures unhung. Once you figure it out and get the hang of it, it’ll work damn near every time!!! I’d say that you can easily retrieve 9 out of 10 lures that get snagged once you get it figured out!!!

Please spread the message about soft plastics in the ocean. It is SO important. Surely something similar could be made very inexpensively out of gelatine. Look at the price of gummy worms - just remove (or change) the flavour, nix the sugar and citric acid, and, while they’d be more delicate, they’d be 100% biodegradable and should be possible to make cheap AF with a simple mold, gelatine, and food colouring??
