Charlie didn’t include the full context here for… some reason, but in the full scene, he first transforms on reflex, immediately transforms back, and apologizes for the rudeness, explaining that when his blood runs hot it’s “Difficult to control the beast.” At that point, you have various options on how to respond- ranging from “Happy I have that effect on you,” “this was a mistake.” And- “I like it, change back” The crowed, as well as viewers of the livestream all pushed for that response- likely out of curiosity and because the comical nature of it alone was incredible. THEN, we see the dialogue shown.

Yeah, to be honest the Squirrel shows that they wanted to make it into a joke. I mean it's DnD in the end and there are enough jokes of characters trying to fuck dragons, that some people have to had tried. A friend of mine had the early access game or beta or whatever it was called and I played it a bit, you could kill anybody if you wanted to. I killed a hag, in the first encounter before the hag could escape. While there was the confusion when the body and loot disappeared (it got transported to the _final fight_ setting), the fact that I could do it got me hooked. I mean every other game would just make the enemy unbeatable until they escaped to set up the final battle, but here you can do shit like that. And that they present this (even as a joke) to the public, shows that they went all the way. I mean in a world full of magic, shapeshifting and different races like Tieflings, Elves, Humans and Satyrs (though I am not sure you can play one, it's still the world of DnD) someone living out their fantasies when possible... Why shouldn't they do that? Sorry 😅 I tend to go on tangents some times. While I doubt I would go that route (though curiosity pushes people sometimes to do things) I like the fact that they included these kinds of options, since that means they actually considered all the possibilities... And it was fucking hilarious how the Squirrel let the nut drop 😂

The Squirrel was a Druid in disguise that was supposed to feed information on the Player to the enemy for most of the game. As a result of going through this branch, enemy encounters with said faction are reduced by 50% due to the Druid saying "I am not paid enough for...That..." and quitting their job. You can see them in late game in a bar, however upon seeing you again they vomit and pass out so you can't interact with them.

For people who don't know about Baldur's Gate III, that scene was a mere drop of water in the ocean (the game is impressive regardless, with or without it). Just to give you an idea, the game has 174 hours of cinematics (twice as long as Game of Thrones) and a script about 2 million words long (triple the word count of Lord of the Rings), just to take into account the consequences of all the choices you can make in it (it's gonna have a lot of replay value).

on a philosophical level. the bear scene shows that BG3 does exactly what a good RPG should do and that is exploring the gray area of character morality. Theyre both fully cognitive consenting adults so whos to say its wrong but at the same time there are probably druids in the BG universe who would want to kill that druid for misusing nature's blessings for his own vanity. it allows us to pick a side and play the role deeper than just saying "those r bad guys go kill dem and get points" the same way a good cleric might be doing wrong by keeping a morally evil tycoon alive well beyond his natural means so he can continue doing evil things. but the cleric does it out of the goodness of the act itself. this is why baldurs gate is not just another diablo clone

Laurian doesn't pull back when you make the extreme dialog choices like other games do. In most games if you choose the bear sex option the game will come up with a reason not to and it will turn out that all dialog choices are meaningless and the outcome is the same no matter what you picked. I learned this in their previous game when it let me choose to have sex with a skeleton, I had though for sure it was going to be a meaningless dialog choice and there would be some excuse as to why they couldn't but no, they went there.

This just shows the sheer amount of freedom in this game. I've been playing the early access for about a year now and Baldur's Gate 3 easily has more choice and consequence than anything I've played before (other than actual D&D). You can get entire settlements killed, kill all your companions (or any NPC), or go through completely pacifist. I've put well over 100 hours into just the first area trying to see all the different quest outcomes.

So I bought this game the literal day it came out in early access, which was back in October 2020. I have 300+ hours clocked on Steam. None of my friends ever heard of or even cared for Baldur’s Gate 3. Three years later, this scene gets spread all over the internet and I get messages from a handful of people asking about what the fuck is happening lol. Absolutely genius on Larian’s part. And like you said, this was just supposed to be a showcase for the community via livestream on how the romance options work. The audience is totally responsible for the dialogue choices. Which makes this even better. Anyway, Charlie you better stream BG3 when it releases August 3rd! It’s one of my favorite games to date and I’d love to see you play it. Just try not to sleep with the bear ;)

@ghost420and69 I have 137.5 hours and I've seen people who have already put in over 1K hours. There's A LOT. Roughly 30-40 hours worth of content in the starting area (Which is only part of act 1. Yeah. It's not even the full act 1.) and the amount of content and choices available are very high. The game has a shit-ton of replay value and plenty of hidden secrets to discover. This is a game where you could play through it 3 times, and you'll watch someone on KZbin play it, and they're seeing stuff you've never come across before. Because choices and relationships matter.

It was super intentional, and I think they went to the top 5 of steam sales right after the showcase lol, so I'd say it def paid off. For those who don't want this kind of stuff, there is a modesty filter you can turn on at the beginning of the game, and you can choose not to romance anyone (and you can also choose to romance a druid but have them not turn into an animal). There's so much more to this game than this, so it would still be very worth checking it out for sure

While double A tend to only spend at most a few million. If you have a team of 50 and only spend a million dollars on production it's not a triple A game.
